the other argument about male socialization that I've seen tossed around a lot is the idea that trans women grew up internalizing themselves as the subjects in the patriarchal messaging that men are superior. and I can only think about how my self-concept even from a young age didn't align with manhood

when my mom would sing "brown eyed girl" in the car, I always thought she was singing about me because I had brown eyes. I asked her at one point, when I was still young enough not to get it, whether I would suddenly become a woman once I became an adult. I was also constantly degraded for my femininity and considered girlish. I grew up seeing myself in womanhood, and I also grew up with a lot of horrible, dehumanizing messaging about what that meant. I learned to hate myself and to see myself as inferior from it

so, at least as far as those aspects of socialization theory that describe ways the shape of patriarchal society and its messaging interact with the self-concept of an individual go, I would easily say I was socialized as a girl in that regard, because that was how I understood myself even before I had the language and theory of gender to put to words that my self-concept didn't match the box I'd been put in

that's of course not to speak for all trans women, but I think it's false to imagine that all trans women identified themselves with manhood on a deep, unconscious level until our eggs cracked. the cracking of the egg, as I understand it, is the unconscious becoming conscious, and so I don't think it's unusual to suggest that the way we register and internalize the messaging of the patriarchy often has a lot to do with our unconscious self-concept, long before we ourselves even realize it

and this is a much simpler observation but it also just doesn't square with how depressed, self-loathing, and frankly suicidal so many trans women are, especially before coming out. I would not say a demographic facing these issues at such high rates could remotely be said to have some notion of superiority

Look, I'm glad to see more Asian representation in media, but this hype over the Wasians (mixed white-Asians) is making this Asian borderline uncomfortable 😬

Firstly, Blasians (mixed Black-Asians) don't get this much hype for being mixed and we all know why 🤡

Secondly, media and the public almost always put on a pedestal a very specific type of mixed Wasians, those of East Asian descent. I don't see as much hype for the Wasians of South Asian, Southeast Asian or West Asian descent. And of course, we all know why 🤡

Like I thought we had this discourse back in the early 2010s criticising how Asian representation in YA fiction tended to be Wasians?

The police had already been called several times about her partners violence before her murder and did nothing, and she deserves the same outrage and mourning as Juniper got, and every one of our murdered trans siblings deserves. Trans women of color are more likely to be the victims of murder than any other group of queer people, and they need our solidarity, protection and support.

Teacher with Stage 4 Colon Cancer Needs Help

My dad is a science teacher at a public middle school. A month after turning 50, he suddenly learned he has stage 4 colon cancer that's metastasized to his liver and lungs. When I visited him in the hospital, he kept repeating the words "I'm scared. I don't want to die." I turned my head to the wall and cried.

My mom, an LVN, has been driving to his place often in order to care for him and empty his ileostomy bag, which he's still too scared to even look at. Not being able to go to the bathroom normally, and dealing with accidents where the bag of his own waste bursts and leaks onto him makes him feel humiliated and is causing him to become extremely depressed.

We're thankful that my mother a nurse, but she makes much less than he does as a teacher, and has been draining her retirement for his treatment. She's also had to take ubers lately to go see him because she can't drive at night, as she has a serious vision disability due to a genetic condition that eventually results in blindness.

Most of the money received is from my mom, other family members, and former students of my father. But what's maybe even more important than the amount received, is the number of people donating. I can see how hopeful and excited it makes my dad to see just 5 donations in a day from people he doesn't know.

When multiple strangers donate even just $5 each in a day, I can tell that it makes him even more excited than it does to see that same amount donated by one person in a day. (which is still very exciting!! One person who reblogged this donated $100, which was so generous that my parents were scratching their heads trying to figure out who they knew with the name Adrian. Thank you so much to that very kind person who doesn't even follow me 😭🤍🩷)

The other day, I asked mutuals to donate, and 5 people sent $5-$25, bringing the gfm up ~$80. My mom called my dad to let him know, "all those donations came from her freaks on tumblr!!" He thanked me over and over and was amazed when I told him this post was shared 500 times. He said, that's so many people! It really brightened his day so much.

I would appreciate it if you could take the time to open his page, even if you can only donate $1. For you, it may be just a small dent in our goal that won't make a difference. But to him, it shows that there's one more human out there who sees him, who's thinking about him, who knows his name, knows what he's going through, and wishes for him to recover. it is also kind of crazy that ann speaks at length ingame about her experiences with "standing out" and being ostracized by her peers for being different, and then her thief outfit is deliberately designed to stand out against the blacks of the other thieves. obviously intentional + meant to come across as embracing it, which im not entirely opposed to, but I feel the resulting design goes a bit overboard with the red and seems to contradict the visual theming of the pthieves as a "place to belong" (also it's just kinda aesthetically unpleasant)
