Everything About Exams!

·         Exam timetables are available at https://www.tudublin.ie/for-students/student-services-and-support/examinations/exam-timetables/ - please check these close to the time of the exams in case of any changes.

Student ID Cards: All students must bring their Student ID Card to every examination. If you do not have your ID Card, other forms of photo ID may be accepted.

Face Masks: All students must wear a face mask when entering exam halls and for the full duration of each examination they attend. A 'no mask, no exam' policy will apply. Any student not complying with this requirement will be asked to leave and/or face disciplinary action. This could result in their exam being set aside.

In line with government guidelines, wearing a face-covering is mandatory in exam halls and venues as well as in other indoor areas on campus. If a student refuses to wear a face-covering in a lecture or workshop and cannot produce a medical exemption letter, the disciplinary procedures will be invoked.

·         Exam Venues:

Always follow the directions of the Invigilators.

Exam halls will be open at least 15 minutes before your exam start time.

Put on your facemask before approaching the entrance and sanitise your hands at the entrance.

Have your Student ID ready to be inspected (you may be asked to briefly remove your mask for this)

Proceed directly to your seat. Desks and chairs will have been sanitised before each exam. Antibacterial wipes for desk and chair cleaning before and after your exam will also be available.

The following is a summary of key information that you will need to be aware of about your examinations.

COVID-19

·         If you are unwell before or on the day of your exam or if you are affected by one of the following circumstances, you should NOT attend the assessment and instead, apply for Deferral or Personal Extenuating Circumstances (see below).

You should not attend your in-person exam if:

·         You are COVID-19 positive

·         You are ill (not COVID-related circumstances)

·         You are awaiting a COVID 19 test or test result

·         You are a close contact

Personal Extenuating Circumstances

Any student who cannot complete an examination (for COVID-19 related reasons or otherwise) in January should complete and submit the Personal Circumstances Form here: https://www.tudublin.ie/for-students/student-services-and-support/examinations/exam-forms/ so that their circumstances can be taken into account at the assessment boards

What can I bring to my exam?

You must bring your Student ID Card, writing implements, and your facemask. Wear layers of warm clothing and you can wear your coat/jacket in the exam hall. We also recommend that you bring your hand sanitizer and drinking water. In addition, you can bring non-electronic earplugs.

No Mobile Phones/Electronic Devices. If you attempt to use your mobile phone or any other electronic device in the Exam Hall – including having the device turned on – this is a major breach of the Exam Regulations and serious disciplinary action will apply.

No unauthorised materials (e.g. books, notes, etc.) are allowed in the Exam Hall. If you are found in possession of unauthorised materials, disciplinary action will apply.

Do not remove any TU Dublin examination materials (including the exam paper) from the exam hall.

Students not following the guidelines above may be refused entry to exams, may be asked to leave an exam, and/or face disciplinary proceedings.

FAQs

Will I have to wear a face mask during my exam? Yes. The University has mandated that face coverings in the form of a face mask must be worn at all times in indoor settings.

What if I forget my face mask on the day of my exam? The exam centre will have a limited number of face masks available on the day.

Will I have to remove my facemask for ID checks? Yes, TU Dublin Invigilators will need to check your Student ID Card and perform an ID check at various points. You will be required to briefly remove your facemask when requested. There is no requirement to remove your facemask unless requested to do so.

Due to a medical condition, I cannot wear a facemask, what do I do? Students who due to an underlying condition cannot wear a face mask should consider if it is appropriate for them to attend campus at this time. These students should seek advice from their health care professional regarding the risks posed by their attendance on campus without wearing face masks, in the context of situations when face mask wearing is otherwise mandated or deemed necessary.

Will there be social distancing in the exam centre? Yes, students will be required to socially distance when entering and exiting the exam centre. As a result, there may be delays while students enter and exit the exam centre.

Will there be social distancing in the exam hall? Yes, all desks have been arranged according to government social distancing advice for exams. You will be required to sit at the desk allocated to you.

Will there be social distancing in the toilets of the exam centre and hall? Yes, students will be required to social distance when queuing for toilets. As a result, there may be delays while students enter and exit the toilets.

Will there be hand sanitisers available in the Exam Centres? All exam centres will have hand sanitiser stations available. However, we recommend that you also bring your own hand sanitizer to the exam hall.

What are the ventilation levels in the exam hall? Each exam centre has undergone a review regarding ventilation and CO2 levels, CO2 monitors are being put in place where required. As windows may need to be open at various times we suggest you wear layers of warm clothing. Coats and jackets will be permitted in the exam halls this trimester. Halls will be ventilated between exams.

Will there be noise during my exam? While every effort will be made to minimize noise, as it is a public health guideline to keep CO2 levels to a certain level, doors in your exam hall may need to be opened at various times and extraction fans may need to be turned on/increased in speed.

Can I wear earplugs during my exam? Yes, students can wear non-electronic earplugs during their exam. Electronic devices are not permitted.

What do I do when I have finished my exam?

·         If you finish early, raise your hand for the attention of an invigilator.

·         In all cases, remain seated until you are approached by an invigilator.

·         Place all your exam materials (including unused) in your question paper and hand to an invigilator when instructed to do so.

·         You will be asked to sign in your exam materials by the invigilator

·         You will be handed an antibacterial wipe for desk and chair cleaning

·         Your section will be called to exit when it is safe to do so

·         Sanitise your hands when exiting

Any changes to exams arrangements will be communicated to students. The current arrangements are based on the current guidelines and if these guidelines change and impact on arrangements, students will be communicated with.
