On December 30th 1899 the Albion Motor Company was established.

Albion Motor Car Company Ltd was founded by Thomas Blackwood Murray and Norman Osborne Fulton, joined a couple of years later by John F Henderson who provided additional capital.

Their factory was originally in Glasgow, moving to Scotstoun in 1903 and it initially manufactured motor cars until in 1909 when they switched to commercial vehicle manufacture, trucks then buses.

The name changed to Albion Motors in 1930; taken over by Leyland Motors in 1951; from 1972 production switched to automotive parts, and Leyland dropped the Albion name; Albion Automotive reappeared after a management buy-out in 1993.

The company survives to this day as part of the American Axle & Manufacturing Company (AAM), who took over Albion in 1998.

Mark Knopfler's song, "Border Reiver", the first cut on his 2009 release Get Lucky contains direct references "My Scotstoun lassie", "She's an Albion" and "Sure as the Sunrise"
