If you are not LGBT+ you are not allowed to forgive Dom.
If you are LGBT+, you too do not get to forgive him on the behalf of all of us.
One view does not represent us. We are angry. We are upset. We are allowed to be angry and upset. We are allowed to call Dom out, that is not hate. We are allowed to not want a homophobic man in a show meant to be showing equality for all and advocating for solidarity.
Disgusted that this is a habit of Dom's, not a one time thing, but something that's happened over and over and this time he just happened to be caught.
I am glad that he issued an apology publicly and akcnowledged his wrong. Whether that was his own doing, or if Matt forced him too which I suspect he did, the mistake was acknowledged at least.
Matt looked upset. He looked angry. He looked like he was there to ensure the apology was followed through. Matt made sure this apology happened as he knew that the word does not affect him personally and he is fine, but he understands the gravity of the effect of the word to the fans of the show and the LGBT youth who idolise these actors. Matt understands that we are upset, and helped with the apology in an attempt to show that homophobia is not acceptable in any form, even in a single, not harmful-meaning greeting to a friend.
This is intolerable. Remember Dom's actions. Remember his past. And only if he shows change in his everyday behaviour, then, and only then, can we give him a chance. Not forgiveness, as what he has done has reached and hurt so many people, perhaps beyond repair (I'm not only taking about today's incident), and it will never be acceptable to do the actions he has done, and to forgive him is to excuse his hate towards us, and his irreversible damage to this community.
Never forgive homophobia. To excuse homophobia is a homophobic action.
That is never acceptable. Full stop.
Please be aware at all times of the effects of your words and actions. You never know the damage it could cause.
