Hi everyone!

Recently a few of my co-workers as well as myself traveled to Holland again, to see Tuindeco and hear about their developments over the past year. And once again, I was blown away with their developments every year – Some of which I will talk about in this blog post.

It started off with the usual ferry ride and the drive to Coevorden, and although the ferry ride was bumpy- I was lucky to catch the long straw, which allowed me to read during the whole journey. Once we got there, we were told the recent developments within Tuindeco- As well as being able to view their latest showsite design.

Every year Tuindeco grows, especially in a physical form, for example this video below shows their latest build project of two new warehouses. Both are massive in size, allowing them to build up stock in these quieter winter months- The development of these warehouses are planned to be finished early next year, ready for the spring and summer season.

And even with their developments of new warehouses, their current ones are still striving – With various techniques put into place to ensure the quality standards of our products.

Industrial power fans have been placed around the Larch timber in order to keep them nice and dry in the rainy months – Preventing the signs of weathering and the possible chance of mould growing.

Along with new packaging styles that are being tested, such as this crate-like structure around the Edelweiss log cabin package, hopefully reducing the probability of the log cabin getting damaged during transit.

During our drive around the Tuindeco warehouses, we spotted something in the distance- So bright that no one could miss it… It turned out to be a Tuindeco minivan, a promotional vehicle for their 25 year anniversary, and although the weather doesn’t match the brightness of this minivan- It certainly brightened up our day!

After this tour we all went our separate ways in order to do the tasks we came here to do – My task was all about their show site. Armed with a 360° camera, I was able to capture and put together a 360° showsite walkthrough. Unfortunately the weather was cloudy and the showsite was in the middle of upgrading for the new season- But there is still plenty to see, you can find and use the walkthrough on our Tuin in pictures page! Along with a walkthrough of our showsite that’s based in Brooke, Norfolk.

What is envious about the Tuindeco showsite is the amount of space they’re able to use, in fact, they even had to room for one of our longest buildings at 14m – The Slane Log Cabin! Stunning in person, but I also captured a 360° walkthrough of the cabin, which can be found under the video tab of the product page.

Alongside this giant of a Log Cabin – They also a selection of our Larch Garden Buildings. One of each roof type in fact, along with a sneak peek at the new furniture additions for next year’s catalogue:

A traditional style for roof type, Our Larch Apex roof garden building range starts first with the basic structure and then various modules can be added to it to create walls, infills, extensions etc.

A roof type inspired by barns – The asymmetrical apex roof larch timber comes from well managed forest and is one of the most durable softwood species. It has a very warm colour and texture.

Or for something more modern in style – The pent roof larch garden buildings. Available in two cladding colours: standard Larch and pre-painted black Larch

Though admittedly, I did get distracted a few times…

But who wouldn’t be? Nevertheless the the trip to Tuindeco was a success in my eyes, with plenty of pictures taken plus the creation of two 360° walkthrough tours, the consumption of Bitterballen and dog petting- It’s hard to list that as a fail. Newcastle Log Cabin Customer Review

Hello everyone,

It’s been a little time since we’ve had an in depth customer review – Understandable with this heat, not many people would want to install their log cabins in the recent months. But we do have a fair few customers who like to challenge the heat! For example, Mr & Mrs C, who have kindly summed up their journey of their Newcastle Log Cabin installation within this article.

Mr C writes as follows:

After weeks of research it looked by all accounts that Tuin were the people to buy from! And after several hours reading the wealth of information on their site I was not only convinced these guys knew what they were talking about, but also had a real passion for the product. Si, I hit the button and bought a Tuin 58mm Newcastle cabin, to become my new office/workshop.

The cabin arrived bang on time and unloading was a doddle with their side loading forklift. I was relieved to find the whole package was very securely wrapped and un-damaged. The cabin had to sit on the drive for a week as I finished off the groundworks, but the packing kept everything dry and clean.

First job was to clear the site. A step ladder, a beer and a chainsaw! What’s the worst that could happen right? (Not recommended! – Meg) 

Next was a quick beer while the wife unloaded the hardcore – Then while we waited for her to break the larger lumps up! (I hope you realise that I’m making this bit up right?) 

Access was tricky, but a concrete pump soon got the job done!

Base finished! Ready for the retailing wall. 28° heat, what could be better than digging sleepers into the ground  

Next, the build begins. (Seemed a shame to hide my nice retaining wall) Unfortunately, the cabin wall bearers had twisted badly in the searing heat. This made the first logs down a little tricky, but as the walls started to go up the bearers had little choice but to flatten out.

Every log slotted into the next like they were machined out of metal, I was amazed at the accuracy of each cut. The logs were straight and clean – I was starting to feel quite happy 

End of day one! Apart from being sick of hammering nails into roof boards, everything else had gone like clockwork.

Next day came the doors and roof. (Oh, goody, more nails!) The shingles were of excellent quality and easy to lay. I had opted to insulate from within the cabin, so we just laid them out on to the roof boards.

I think the floor was my biggest disappointment – after the way the rest of the cabin had gone together, I was expecting the floor to do the same? But, some of the cuts were not accurate on the ends of the boards and some different widths. But at the end of the day it’s just a floor. (Note: Our floors come in generic packs and are not cut to fit specific cabins, that’s why we try to give you more than enough to floor your Log Cabin – We’re sorry you had difficulties! – Meg)

I have now been in my new cabin for a month, during this time we haven’t had a drop of rain and 30+ degree temperatures! The cabin is drying out, but (so far) the wood is being extremely stable. The few small cracks that appeared as we installed it have (more or less) stayed as they were. Nothing has warped or buckled.

I really am being honest when I say, we are extremely pleased with our decision to buy a Tuin Log Cabin. Everything from start to finish has been great! I did have to call for a silly question and the after sales help was brilliant – A big thank you to Alex and the Tuin team!

I must say, that shade of treatment really does suit the Newcastle Log Cabin! I’d just like to say a big thank you to Mr and Mrs C for their honest review of our products – We are sorry to hear that you had problems regarding the flooring, but are relieved that you still love your log cabin!
