Neon signs, Tujague’s, New Orleans’ French Quarter, before Katrina
Some of the recovered pics are converted slides bought from ebay from estate sales and such. There are a lot of terrible pictures, some adorably kitschy ones, and some that are a snapshot of a different era- cars and fashions always catch my eye.
This shot down Decatur that includes Tujague's Restaurant (pronounced "two jacks") has such a great bunch of cars in it I couldn't resist.
Tujague's is the second oldest restaurant in New Orleans, opening a few doors down in 1856, and moving here in 1914 where it stayed until 2019.
My first visit, an aged, fairly cranky waiter unceremoniously dropped a couple of plates down, barely stopping as he passed. When I chased him down to say that wasn't ours- we hadn't even looked at the menu yet, the look I got was more withering then the 100% humidity that day. It was a table d’hôte menu, I soon learned, and although initially a little miffed, I would now cheerfully stab you for a plate of that brisket with their signature horseradish right now.

Winter Wife with a grasshopper at the place of its inception: Tujague's bar in New Orleans. An ironically cool drink on a sub-freezing day in the Crescent City, but hey. #nola #drinknola #frenchquarter #grasshopper #tujagues #decaturstreet #colderthanawelldiggersass #cutewife #winterwife #ironicaldrinks #cocktailhour (at Tujague's Restaurant)
