The Road So Far - 1

This is the first leg of my trip, sitting in a cabin in the Okanagan, writing about everything this place is to me. I've got 250km of bird's flight mountains to go through (so much more on a bike, following roads), I'm only a three hour drive from my start. Past here, I kind of... don't know? I've been out that way, but I don't have every mountain line and river turn memorized. I don't need to (I went through Agassiz afterall), and my goals are solid, I just have to hop back on my bike, you know?

I really need to fix my bike.

Trash Heap has been great so far. A very sturdy, old steel roadie with 10 speeds and a probably original rear wheel -- or at least not easily replaced. My front wheel needs some kind of aligning, I knew this well before I left. However, there were some downhill portions where I could only keep the front from wobbling terribly with the widest hold -- and it was still flying side to side quite troubling.

I rode it today (Day 5, Tulameen rest day) without any weight on it and it felt like a feather. Which is funny because I imagine trying to pick up some carbon or alloy bike and accidentally throwing it into the sky or something.

So far, I've been good. I have never biked this much in a day, and never every day in a row, but my legs are good for it. Don't know why, but I had the confidence they would be. Sleeping without a mat has been fine; my barebones sleeping situation makes me believe I'll never be able to keep my feet warm at night.
