A little snout and a brief show of peduncle and we’re able to match this cryptic manatee to one we’ve seen in years past! One captured years ago! One of the few Antillean manatees that swim across tens of kilometers of deep blue sea for the lush grasses of Turneffe Atoll Marine Reserve. It reveals to us a long-term pattern of offshore habitat use by manatees unknown in other parts of the world. And it sure does look like a rope on it! But it’s ok, it’s just a mirage. I was fooled for a few hours before the photo series deflated my delusions of some impromptu drone assisted manatee disentanglement. #manatees #marinemammals #marineconservation #turneffeatoll @oceanic.society @turneffeflats #animal #marinemammalsofinstagram #caribbean #animallover #naturelove #conserve #protect #goslow (at Turneffe Atoll)
