How ... HOW is it possible that they manage to be even more dumb and worse with each new day?!
i was never a teacher, i only stepped in as a teachers assistent to observe and take notes how students used my research teams IDE. but let me tell you. every student who seemed to be struggling in the classes i was in. and some of these classes were students who barely attended school (though when we were visiting they had full attendance for an entire week which was a record). and the #1 way i could get the disinterested kids engaged in learning computer science was by sitting down, listening to them, and treating them like human beings instead of A Problem. i was lucky, i was not in front of the class so could sit down one on one with the student who was being disruptive and answer their questions about the program individually. regular teachers have so many students they cant do this.
but anyone who thinks a computer can do this better is fucking insane.
Pregnancy is a lot like living in super close quarters with a tiny rude roommate who's really into kickboxing... except the "room" is your uterus and the roommate kickboxes at 4am 😒
my phone + cards got stolen yesterday so the past 12 hours have been a frantic series of resetting every account and password i can think of
the real dumb part about it -- which strikes me as very silly in hindsight -- is that i was pickpocketed via a ruse which i have seen multiple times in film and tv, most notably, in the movie “the sting,” which is my dad’s favorite movie
in this grift, i turn down an alley with my husband and friend, and a group of teenage boys chases after us when they see me take a picture of something. they shout at us to stop and we ignore them. eventually one of them runs in front of me, and very serious, says it will be $5 for the picture. we all stand there, blinking, processing this very stupid request. after a moment passes, my friend says “no, we’re not paying you,” and we walk away, at a quicker pace.
we turn back down the alley a few moments later (as we realized we were lost) and the youths were nowhere to be found. two hours later, i realize that i can’t find my phone. i check my email and find that “find my iphone” was disabled very shortly after i took the picture. because.... while one youth distracts us with a stupid question, and we feel like we’re being hustled on that end, behind us, the other youths pick our pockets. they steal my phone, instantly unlock it, disable “find my iphone” and change my password.
jesus christ. i was in the musical “oliver.” i played a ruffian. i sang the steps to this exact grift. i am. dumbstruck.
The term “woke” and “conscious” is overused and undeserving for many–especially by the young and underdeveloped who haven’t begun to sift through the ancestral baggage and social conditioning they’ve been burdened with since birth.
Always question those who overuse that word.
What are they “woke” to?
What are they “conscious” of?
If it involves a whole bunch of polishing of shackles and maintaining outdated ways of existing, then more awakening needs to occur.
This is not a one stop shop children.
They are levels to this.
You are wise when you can admit that you have more unraveling to do.
Remain humble and open to learning. :)
