He simply lay there, breathing in the familiar scent of her hair, feeling her slow breathing beneath his arm, and enjoying the rare, precious moment before the day had the chance to intrude. His hand rested loosely against her waist and he gave the tiniest squeeze, on an attempt to pull her carefully closer. Olena shifted backward instinctively, settling even more firmly against him. Volodymyr's smile deepened. He knew she wasn't deeply asleep anymore. There was a difference between the heavy stillness of genuine sleep and this softer, floating state she sometimes occupied in the early morning, when she was awake enough to register the world but not remotely interested in joining it yet.

He waited a little longer. Then he lowered his head and pressed the first kiss against her shoulder.

Soft. Barely there.

Another followed, slightly higher. Then one between her shoulder blades. He lingered there for a moment before kissing the back of her neck, then her hair, his lips brushing the strands gently. Olena's breathing changed and Volodymyr smiled, when he noticed.

Another kiss. A tiny sound escaped her. Not quite a word. Not quite a sigh. Then the corner of her mouth lifted.

“You're awake,” Volodymyr whispered.

“Mh.”

“That's not an answer.”

Olena gave a sleepy little hum. He kissed her shoulder again. A tiny giggle escaped her.

“Don't,” she murmured, clearly unwilling to leave her state of half-sleeping.

“Don't what?”

“Wake me.”

“You're already awake,” Volodymyr replied with a laugh in his voice.

“I'm pretending.”

He laughed quietly against her hair.

“Very convincing.”

Another kiss landed against her shoulder.

“So you're still asleep?”

“Mh.”

“Liar.”

Olena giggled again and wiggled against him in an attempt to be closer, which was impossible. Still Volodymyr tightened the arm around her. He smiled against her hair and kissed her neck once more. Her shoulders lifted with another quiet laugh.

“Vova …”

She giggled again and finally opened her eyes, although only halfway.

I need to see the faces of people rn that say their marriage is ruined and they are on the verge of divorce. And also Simon Shuster.

That's clearly a couple who's about to get a divorce. It's basically days, if not hours. You can see the pure hate and dislike for each other. I would even go so far and call it disgust. You can't leave them alone for a second, because look how much they fight. There is clearly no love left.

And just look at this man, who was pressured and pushed by his wife into a marriage he never wanted. And he absolutely, definitely doesn't love her. He can't stand her. Doesn't respect her. Treats her like shit, his whole life. Olena truly is totally suffering and can't wait to get away.

Jokes aside: Same. To this day I wonder why even make up such idiotic bullshit, when they prove people like Shuster or Mendel wrong every day they're together. Especially Shuster was sooo weird about their marriage and love in his book and in the past, like ... . Buddy. Does this look like a wife who was mistreated and treated like trash her whole life?
