Because why would I want to hear my tv, when I can hear my boyfriends dad over mine.
-hearing my own movie is apparently over rated.

I'm not popular in reality, I'm not popular on Twitter, I'm not popular on Instagram, I'm not popular on Facebook, I'm not popular on TUMBLR. I'm a loser on the web and outside the web 😂
How the hell do my roommates fall asleep with their fucking TV blasting?!?!? I can hear it crystal clear and it's two rooms away.

Born Wrong
Genre: Hardcore punk.
Check out: Holding Cell (EP), Schizophrenic Records, 2013
Born Wrong are a four-piece band that have done a lot in the last year. Having done two US tours and releasing two EPs, Born Wrong show no signs of slowing down as they are in the studio planning to release another record due out for this year. With hate-fuelled lyrics along with a dark and gritty rhythm and lead, Born Wrong makes you want to get mad, hate everyone and destroy everything in your path.

Thoughts on Air
Genre: Ambient and noise
Check Out: Moonlit Mind, self-released, 2013
One of Hamilton’s lesser-known acts is Thoughts on Air. Scott Johnson, the mastermind behind ToA, is also the other half of the noise-rock duo Gasoline Gathers Hands, Gathers Friends. Much like GGH, GF, Thoughts on Air follows the same traits, but adds his own style to make Thoughts on Air more unique by adding layered voice loops, lo-fi guitar and having a more mellowed tone compared to the dark and eerie tones of GGH, GF. His latest release, Moonlit Mind is a collection of songs Johnson had written over the course of the summer, fall and winter and it feels like it as you listen along. If you enjoy ambient, post-rock and nosie-rock, then Thoughts on Air is for you.

Sketchbooks are a very unique band. So much so, that it was difficult trying to find a band to compare them to. Their latest release, Scrutiny, is the band’s second entry and it is filled with catchy riffs, sporadic drumming and strong vocals, Sketchbooks will please the post-hardcore fan in you. PS: If you like Portraits of Past you may like these guys.

Black Baron
Genre: Dream-pop, shoegaze, new wave
Check out: Divine Chains (EP), Victim House, 2013
Black Baron CANNOT be missed. Easily comparable to bands from the 80s and 90s such as Joy Division and The Jesus and Mary Chain, as well as current bands such as Milk Music and Merchandise, Black Baron stands out in the Hamilton scene that is heavily punk and hardcore influenced. The band’s second EP Divine Chains will get you lost in the lo-fi sound topped with overdrive guitars, fast drumming, loud bass and a raw vocal style with smart lyricism. PS: This is a band you must see live.

TV Freaks

Check out: TWO, Schizophrenic Records, 2013
In 2013, TV Freaks released TWO and since then, it has received acclaim as it picked up a Hamilton Music Award for Punk Recording of the Year. If you’re a fan of the older punk acts such as the Dead Kennedys or The Stooges, then you should have no problem adjusting to TV Freaks. Loud and powerful in sound and finished off with clever lyrics, TV Freaks will make you want to move around.

Good Anya
Genre: Alternative
Check out: “Genius”, self-released, 2014
Borrowing influences from 90s bands such as Dinosaur Jr. and The Pixies, Good Anya is a band comprised of members aging from the age of 17 and 18. But don’t let their age discourage you, as they are fully capable of bringing these influences to life in their songs. On their genre choice, Sam Anderson explains; "We always have trouble deciding what we are. Just because we have a wide variety of styles of music. But our sound reminds people a lot of early 90s punk/grunge/rock." Along with the band putting on an awesome live show, Good Anya is definitely a band to look out for in 2014.
