Theeeen, as a combination of that night and this afternoon, I decided to try and take a stab at drawing a character I made in the Code Vein creator. (lowkey actually an OC, lol)  Look at how my badly drafted eyes ruin the whole sketch lmao.

I did the usual draw-overs, but I wound up doing them twice because the hair just...didn’t confuse me, but it was hard for me to get a handle on. 

You can also see from this afternoon I did hella curl practice. I happened to see a tutorial on curls, so I tried it out. And...it worked! When I could start it right. I tried another tutorial, but they just...weren’t for me. They worked, but I couldn’t control the shapes of the curls as much as I wanted to, partially because of my level. (I’ve cropped and censored the tutorials so as not to repost them)  

Those deep navy curls on the draw-over? A sign of things to come...

Then I learned...the loomis method!

It was handy and enlightening. And I referenced some pictures, which I’m sure I still have somewhere but I can’t quite pin down where.

I found the one for the heads on the left: Robert Marzullo’s tutorial.

Unfortunately I can’t find the other one I used, though I know it is a loomis tutorial. 

Still, as good as these look, I still felt a little uneasy. They only looked this good because they were directly referenced. For example, almost none of those heads were original angles.

Is it alright to ask for a tutorial on how you do your repeating patterns(like the berries)? Because the tutorials ive found on google and elsewhere dont make sense ;-;

The berry patterns were actually really hard for me to make because the sprites weren’t completely symmetrical, and since I use gimp, i always end up having to do everything the hard way ;; so the way i learned how to do it came with a lot of trial and error and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone because it’s inconvenient. I honestly wouldn’t really be sure where to start when it comers to making a tutorial for that…

i did find this tutorial on devianart, though!

it’s not exactly for what you were asking, but I think it can point you in the right direction if you play around with it enough. i opened photoshop and tried it myself on a screenshot i had saved of some pokemon stickers, and it seems to have worked after playing around with the horizontal and vertical pixels settings! ^^

i would need more time to figure out how to use the methods mentioned in the tutorial in relation to the berry backgrounds i made before, but as for now I can’t offer any specific advice ;v; I don’t know when I will have the time to really figure it out, but if you wanted to come off anon I could try and work with you and help you figure it out! I’m really sorry that I can’t be of any more help than that ;n; let me know if there’s anything else i can do for you…! good luck!!

hello! i was wondering if you know how to use pokemon gifs in graphics? like the animations from pokemon in x, y, and oras. i want to start making graphics with them, but i'm not sure how to make the animations remain moving once i open them in photoshop and save them as an actual image or gif. i don't want them to become static. or, do you know of any tutorials about this i can read?

Hello! i’m sorry for the late reply! ;v; I myself mostly rely on Gimp, but I’m sure you’re asking in reference to photoshop, i don’t think there’s much I can do to help you personally, especially since the methods i use are a little odd..

I was only able to find these two tutorials on the matter, but I really hope that they end up helping you a lot!!! ;v; They’re just different ways to achieve the same outcome (putting sprites on a static background. it should also work with the xy/oras models). I know they’re a little bit removed from what you’re specifically asking, but they’re all i could find ;; if you have any other questions/find yourself still needing help, please feel free to message me again! (off anon would probably be best if that’s okay…). I have some friends who are really great in photoshop, and I’m sure they’d be willing to answer all of your questions directly once I was able to introduce you/let them know of the situation.
