tv buddha's first album "the golden period" is very much a psychedelic-grunge-type-thing. this song i'm posting, however, is newer stuff, and probably best description i can give is "power-rock with jay reatard's rifftasticness". or something. it's a jam.

Over the weekend, I've been snacking on some really great tunes that I'm eager to post. This first one, I found while scoping the fellow blogosphere. This track came our earlier this year, but hey, it's never too late when there are must hear tunes at your ears. This track sounds like it's been ripped straight from the '80s grunge scene.

TV Buddhas - In the Shadow of a Wave
I first heard raw excellence from this Tel Aviv slash Berlin band back in 2010, so my ears perked up when I saw I had missed new material out earlier this year. This track sounds like a Bob Mould b-side - something ripped straight from the off-Seattle grunge scene.

TV BUDDHAS
TV BUDDHAS have been making solid garage rock out of Israel (now via Germany) for the past six years. Their latest EP, Band In The Modern World, is a great introduction to their style. Mixed by Steve Fisk (who has worked with Beat Happening and Nirvana), the EP finds the Tel Aviv trio displaying their a classic punk sound, the sort of band that has clearer bootlegs than records. Definitely worth a listen. Available on Trost.

TV Buddhas (psychedelic rock)
These guys used to be great. I mean, I hate people complaining about how bands used to be but we've seriously lost something huge with the TV Buddhas.
Their first album, The Golden Period, is pure perfection. I'm not joking, it's like the work of prophets bringing beauty to our mortal ears. After the concert where I saw them, I spend a few minutes telling the guitarist they were great, "but, I mean, really great".
Listening to their new music breaks my heart. It's not utterly bad, it's just so... average compared to what they used to do. Imagine Jimi Hendrix starting to sound like Slaughter & the Dogs (I kind of like Slaughter but still) and you get the depth of my despair.
Sorry for the rant, it just truly makes me sad. I'm still happy if some people can appreciate their new things as much as I adored their psychedelic wanderings so here are the links.

The Berlin-based Israeli band TV Buddhas recently released a new 7-inch on the Staatsakt label, distributed by Rough Trade. Vice Magazine recently caught up with TV Buddhas on one of its never-ending European tours to chat.
