It's always the quiet ones.
It’s taken me a little over two years because I took a big break halfway through for no reason at all, but I just finished watching Private Practice and I feel SO INCREDIBLY EMO.
I think I’m overall happy with how the finale panned out even if it all felt a little rushed. I would’ve loved to see more of Addison and Jake’s relationship as a whole. I genuinely hated her and Sam together. It was messy, it was shitty of them to be together at all, and Sam was such a baby most of the time. I’m kinda annoyed so much time was spent on their on/off relationship rather than the patient and lovely wonder that is Jake lmao. But I’m really happy that Addison finally got the family she wanted, and gained a step-daughter from Jake too. Though I must say, super creep that the writers just kept her dating her college professor. NOT OKAY. I like to think they break up and Jake throws a secret party about it lmfao.
As for Sam and Naomi... WILD that the writers had them broken up for the majority of the series and then flung them back together in the finale. But I’ll take it, because I do think they were suited to each other. I was genuinely so shocked Naomi was pregnant. I do find it weird that they didn’t give enough time to address the fact that Sam didn’t want a baby (with Addison) but maybe the implication was he could only picture himself being a parent with Naomi. So I’m satisfied with that ending too -- Sam, Naomi, Maya and Olivia, Betsy, and the baby as a happy and weird little family lmao.
I love that Violet wrote a second book and decided she was going to call it Private Practice. I love ‘full circle’ moments like that in shows, it was really fitting. I like to think she eventually finds it in herself to fall in love again; maybe with that bookstore guy. I can’t picture her having another baby since having Lucas was so traumatic but hey, they could adopt! They’ll have Addison to ask for advice lmao.
It was wild to me that they killed off Pete though. I guess it made sense for his story in the end because he was backed into a corner with the legal trouble he was in and to be honest, by that point in the show, I hated him. He was really fucking mean and I didn’t want Violet to be with someone mean after everything she’d went through so even though I was shocked that he died... oh well. Not too fussed about it.
I’m kinda sad about how they ended things for Sheldon. Uncertain future due to his prostate cancer, paired with a woman who was on the verge of dying... it made me so sad! I felt like he’d been done so dirty for the entire time he was on the show. The least they could’ve done was ended his story a little happier. He said he wanted to have children and never got to because his ex-wife wasn’t into the idea, so maybe ending his story with a pregnancy and a woman who wasn’t about to drop dead would’ve been, you know, nice of them. I like to think he gets that ending at some point. I also found it really weird and sad that he wasn’t in the final shot of them all in the kitchen? I think he should’ve been there. There was no need for him to quit his job lmao. He could’ve just used some vacation time, like, jeez. His girlfriend was dying. I’m sure Addison would’ve cut him some slack. So I like to picture he goes back to the practice lol.
AND THEN THERE’S COOPER AND CHARLOTTE. My absolute favourite couple. I adored Charlotte so much. Her rape storyline nearly killed me. She is easily one of my favourite female characters on anything ever. Her accent, her bad temper, her rare good moods, her hilarious one-liners, her sexual confidence, her professionalism... she was absolute gold. I’m so glad their storyline ended happily with all loose ends tied, I really have no complaints other than I desperately want to see more scenes of them together, with and without kids.
I won’t say much about Amelia because she is also one of my fave female characters ever, but her storyline obviously doesn’t end at Private Practice. I’m guessing it wasn’t always the plan for her to join the Grey’s cast because they try to wrap her story up neatly and pair her off with that guy. I’m so insanely glad her story doesn’t end there cos I really didn’t fuckin’ like him lmao and he was a Republican so get him away.
Anyway! All in all, I’m pleased with how it all panned out, though I do envision bigger and better things happening for some of them. It was an enjoyable spin-off for sure and I’m actually quite bummed it’s over.
Endless amount of ships: 21/? ♦ Amelia & James
