Virgo Nakshatra Deities: Chitra, Hasta, Uttara Phalguni
Disclaimer: unlike the ☀️ solar signs, the 🌙 lunar signs, aka, the nakshatras, are not ruled by planets. They are ruled by deities. The planets you will find regarding the nakshatras are only associated to them. Planets do not rule the nakshatras. As some nakshatras overlap two signs, you will see this nakshatra and the same deity in both of these signs.
Chitra – Tvashta, the Celestial Architect 🛠️✨Tvashta is the divine craftsman, the celestial architect who creates forms and shapes all living beings 🌌🪷 He is considered a universal father and belongs to the illustrious lineage of Bhrigu: connected to Shukra (Venus), the Ashvins of Ashvini, and Brihaspati, the priest of the devas who rules Pushya ⭐
Tvashta is a master artisan and magician of creation. He forges the divine weapons of the gods ⚔️🔥, creates entire realms, and guards the precious Soma, the nectar of immortality 🍶✨ Nothing escapes his vision: he is described as the all-seeing god, with eyes, faces, arms, and feet on every side 👁️🌍
Yet behind the creator lies fierce protective power. When his family is harmed, Tvashta responds through the force of sacred mantras and creates the terrifying Vrtrasura 🐉⚡, one of Indra’s greatest enemies. Chitra reflects this divine energy of craftsmanship, beauty, precision, and creative intelligence.

Hasta – Savita, the Morning and Evening Sun ☀️👐: Savita (or Savitr) is a special form of the Sun. He is not the blazing midday sun, but rather the gentle sun of sunrise and sunset 🌅✨. His rays are cooler and softer, guiding beings from sleep into activity and from activity back into rest.
Savita governs cycles, rhythms, and the patient unfolding of life. He reminds us that true mastery and perfection are not achieved overnight, but through consistency, discipline, and steady effort ⏳🌱.
The Vedas describe him as having golden arms ✨👐 that extend across the world, blessing and guiding all creatures. His speech is sweet and pleasant, bringing harmony wherever it is heard 🎶💛. He rides a magnificent golden chariot with a golden axle, capable of assuming countless forms, just as Savita himself is omniform and present throughout creation 🌞🚩.
His brilliance illuminates both air and space, filling the universe with life and movement 🌌💫. So great is his power that even mighty deities such as Indra (Jyeshtha/Vishakha), Varuna (Shatabhisha), Mitra (Anuradha), Aryaman (Uttara Phalguni), and Rudra (Ardra) cannot resist his divine will. The gods themselves follow his lead, making Savita one of the great sustaining forces of cosmic order 👑☀️.
Hasta reflects this energy through skillful hands, patience, and the ability to shape one's destiny through consistent effort 🤲✨.

Uttara Phalguni – Aryaman, the Generous Guide 🌟🤝: Aryaman is one of the noble Adityas and a guardian of social order, honor, customs, and sacred traditions 📜✨. As the king of the ancestors, he preserves the wisdom of those who came before us and encourages respect for lineage, heritage, and family bonds 🌳👴👵.
His path is said to be the Milky Way itself 🌌, symbolizing the journey back to one's roots and the connection between generations. Through Aryaman, we remember where we come from and understand the responsibilities that accompany our place within society.
In the Rig Veda, Aryaman is frequently invoked alongside Mitra (Anuradha) and Varuna (Shatabhisha) 🤝🌙☀️. Together, they uphold harmony, agreements, morality, and the proper functioning of both the human and divine worlds.
Aryaman is also associated with hospitality, generosity, companionship, and noble conduct 🏡💛. He governs the bonds that unite people: friendships, alliances, marriages, and social obligations.
Unlike rulers who command through force, Aryaman leads through dignity, fairness, and mutual respect 👑✨. His guidance teaches that true prosperity comes not only from personal success but also from helping others, honoring commitments, and maintaining strong relationships.
Uttara Phalguni carries this generous and stabilizing energy 🌿🌞. It is a nakshatra of support, loyalty, responsibility, and lasting partnerships.
According to the Taittiriya Brahmana, Bhaga is mentioned as the deity of Uttara Phalguni rather than Aryaman. However, Aryaman is unquestionably one of the Phalguni deities and remains the figure most commonly associated with the nakshatra in many traditions. 📖✨
