The worst thing that they did with Marius (apart from the bizarre irresponsibility with the whole “left Enkil out in the sun” and ditching the Parents with fledgling Lestat nonsense) is remove his relationship with Lestat. Lestat was supposed to be the one interested in finding and seeking out Marius. Marius is supposed to be Lestat’s mentor. He’s supposed to take Lestat under his wing. Lestat is supposed to idolize him. Marius is supposed to connect his own “transformational trauma” to Lestat’s, both of them chosen and unwillingly transformed on the basis of being tall blond blue-eyed white men. “Nonpareils of their race.” It’s supposed to be fucking uncomfortable.

Instead, we’re just skirting around all of that with mad hattery and nonsense, because god forbid we actually examine the racism and Western chauvinism in the text.

I was hopeful, for about 2 seconds while they had Marius doing a creepy sing-song about Lestat’s blue eyes that went absolutely nowhere, that they might get this one thing right. But after the way they erased all of these implications from Magnus’ story in favor of flattening him into just a creepy rapist fanboy, I should have known better. Mea culpa.

I had a dream I was on the set of amc iwtv and they cast Megan Fox as Marius but they had her talking in the deepest voice she could do 😭

There are haters? Delightful.

Curious that none of them have wandered into my inbox. Here I sit, positively available. Come tell me why Marius is the villain of your latest dissertation. I want the essays. The accusations. The dramatic declarations that you’ll never recover.

I cannot bite through the screen, mon cœurs. Though I admit I am a… master… debater.

So by all means, come argue with me. Just remember that bringing an opinion is not the same thing as bringing a good one. Be prepared for my rebuttals.

I’m curious, how are we defining ‘innocent blood’? Innocent in what regard?

I’m very glad you asked.

Innocence is in the eye of the beholder, and I behold the innocent by what some might call “grey” standards. Marius ( @sanguineetaurum ) warned us all about drinking innocent blood. It is not the chemical makeup that changes anything in us immortals, it is the state of mind. Once you have it, you crave it, and once you crave it, something insidious begins to take hold. It will drive a vampire mad to struggle against those urges, until the struggle itself becomes all consuming.
