TW: child abuse mention, toxic parenting, ptsd mention, anger.

I really don’t like the fact that so many black people, including those who are younger, joke about how abusive their parents are, and never truly call out the fact that this abusive. Instead, they make memes about it, and conclude that this is what black parenting is all about…
I saw this cute little anime-style drawing of two black characters. One was doing their hair, and the other was clearly in pain from being tender-headed, and the one doing their hair said: “put your hand down before I pop you with this brush”, and the tender headed one said: “it hurts!”.
And everyone in the comments laughed… and were talking about relatable it was, talking about “this brings back memories”, like it’s fucking cute, and putting up pictures of disturbingly sad black people, like we’re just suppose to laugh at this. But no one in the comments called out the fact that this needed to change, and that black children need to be treated better… Every person acted like this shit was somehow quirky…
This shit ain’t funny, this shit ain’t cute, this shit is fucking sad, and I am so sick and tired of black people thinking it’s okay to assume that abuse is somehow synonymous with black people and black culture.
Is this what y’all want people to think when they think of black culture? Y’all want people to think that being a black parent means disrespecting the very human being that they chose to have??? Being a black parent means physically harming your damn child??? Treating them like shit and refusing to acknowledge their pain??? Treating them like they don’t deserve respect???
Fuck all that.
We need to do fucking better. I do not want to have to come by another fucking cute-ass anime-style or chibi-style picture fit for some good-ass wholesome content… only to see y’all reinforcing that same toxic shit, and not calling it out, or explaining how problematic this shit is, and how it’s not the way to go… It needs to fucking stop.
Being black does not mean that you’re automatically abusive. This is not quirky or humorous, it triggers the memories that I fucking have of my own goddamn parents treating me like shit. This shit may be relatable, but it should never be normalized. Ever.
It’s not just that art photo either. These jokes happen literally everywhere, and people act like it’s suppose to be normal. Like this is just how black people are.
It disgusts me on so many fucking levels.
