As a disabled person, I'm so sick of seeing these anti-abortion laws coming through. Because they keep blocking disabled people with a uterus from getting the medication they need because it could count as an abortificiant (is that the word?).

A decision on the lawsuit could come as early as this week.

I was in a Facebook group with a few thousand other people that were diagnosed with migraine disorder, and doing polls based on common complaints I've heard. I know it's not really scientific, but it does help people understand the experience of people with the disorder.

Common symptoms of people that have migraine disorder when they're not having an attack.

1. Increased sensitivity to smell. Yes, even when we're not having an attack. We have a stronger sense of smell in general, and a lot of us have been able to smell changes in people's body odor when they're sick, smell when they're on their period, or smell if you're dehydrated if we use the bathroom right after you. (Way TMI. Most of us don't talk about it because it's well... really personal? And kinda gross? And we're afraid of being made fun of? But it's not uncommon.)

2. Increased sensitivity to light. Again, even without an active attack. I know everyone hates florescent lights, but we especially hate it, because we can see the flickering. We hate the big light.

3. Increased sensitivity to flashing lights. Yes, light epilepsy, flashing lights can be a huge trigger for us.

4. Chronic fatigue. A lot of us have chronic fatigue.

5. Brain fog. A lot of us are more prone to confusion even when we're not actively having an attack.

6. Neck/ shoulder tightness.

7. Sensitivity to sounds. Sometimes it's sounds in general. Sometimes it's specific pitches. I've seen a lot of people who low frequencies cause them pain. For me, it's high pitched sounds.

8. Anxiety/ depression/ emotional issues.

9. Sensitivity to motion. A lot of us are more prone to motion sickness than others.

10. Vertigo.

Just to name a few. So even if you don't have an active attack, it effects every day of your life, because it causes all of these other symptoms during non-attack periods that makes our life harder.

This gives me a perfect opportunity to go into a rant I've been wanting to do recently about hating cats, anti cat rhetoric, and the patriarchy.

You ever notice if a person is walking a cat on a leash, and a dog lunges at it, people automatically blame the cat? "Why isn't it in a carrier? Why aren't you carrying it?" DUDE. WHY IS THE DOG TRYING TO KILL RANDOM ANIMALS? WHY ISN'T IT CONTROLLED?

I think this is related to how people feminize cats and masculinize dogs.

We have different stereotypes about the presumed gender of unfamiliar dogs and cats.

So if a dog randomly attacks a cat, it's "He can't help it. He's just a dog." And it's very "boys being boys" rhetoric. But if a cat is attacked, it's "Why weren't you holding it? Why wasn't it in its carrier?" Which sounds very "What was she wearing" rhetoric?

Ya know what I mean?

And cat hatred is rooted in sexism. I don't mean preferring dogs. I don't mean being allergic to cats. I don't mean not wanting to scoop out a box of shit. I'm talking about genuine hatred of all cats for literally zero reason.

"Oh but sometimes people like dogs more because there more affectionate." Bitch. You haven't met my cat. He's more clingy than most dogs I know. Not every cat is aloof.

So this "Cats are the devil. Cats are evil. Cats will eat you when you die." Is like... really just a safe way for people to project their hatred of women onto something that's not women. Because of myths about cats being bad of and stuff, it's very socially acceptable to hate cats like that, even if there's literally no reason to.

And like. I get it. If they aren't your thing, don't get a cat. If you don't like broccoli, don't eat it. But you don't see people that don't broccoli walking around like "Broccoli is the devil!" There's a difference between a preference, and a genuine burning hatred that causes you to spread harmful information about them.

It's no longer disability pride month.

But I love this creator. We get a lot of represention for disabled people who talk about how their disability limits them (Which is valid! We need to normalize that being okay!). We get a lot of represention for disabled people whose jobs are social media, advocates, or speakers. And we get a lot of represention for disabled people who live normal lives, despite their disabilities (Which is also fine! Disability effects us in many ways, and we need the entire spectrum of disabled people in the public eye, because we need to normalize all of them!)

But we don't have a lot of people like... You know what I mean? She is disabled. She admits how her disability has caused major setbacks in her path. You can tell how she's be able to do that as fast as abled people if not faster if it weren't for her disability. But she's still doing really badass things. You know?

Dunno. I look up to her. I aspire to be her. (Nothing against disabled people that aren't getting their PHD. It's just I'm going into my higher education, so this resonates with me, personally. There's a lot of abled people not going into higher education. Everyone has their own goals and stuff. Hers are just more similar to mine.)

And it really sucks because this hurts disabled and chronically ill kids, or kids of disabled parents. To get their funding, Texas created this program called NEAT. Which is "Never Absent or Tardy." And kids that are never absent or tardy get rewards (usually a shitty pizza party). But then when you get to high school, if you have below a certain number of absences or tardies, and you have a certain grade, they let you skip your final in that class. But if you have above a certain number of absences, you have to retake that class.

Which really sucked when I was in high school (like over a decade ago. I'm ancient). Because I got sick a lot. I'm allergic to all of the allergens, which causes frequent sinus infections. So I never got the benefits of never being absent.

(Also my mom has ADHD, so she dropped me off late A LOT and 3 tardies count as an absence.)

Haven't yet. I'm planning to do that with my stuff at some point, I've just been so busy with the move (moving is an absolute bitch as a disabled person, because you can think you're not that disabled because you're usually very careful about your spoon limit, but then when moving forces you out of it, you're unable to get out of bed for days, and you can't be unable to get out of bed. You need to get up and feed yourself or it'll just make the flare up worse.)

The reality of how much damage AI mania is doing to our ability to run institutions effectively.

Not that most of us can DO anything about it, but at least this is validation that we're not crazy and the world really is running full tilt over a cliff. It's really refreshing to have someone describe this in plain language, with specifics. Someone on the ground, not an outside commenter: This was a terrible mistake. It backfired in the most predictable way imaginable – every lukewarm client that saw the chatbot in action, even with us telling them that it was not going to accomplish what they wanted, wanted to buy it immediately. Every other consideration, including millions of dollars that we could plausibly help them achieve by non-AI means, was swept aside. It was like a dark and terrible force seized control of their limbs, plunged their hands into their own chests, and presented their still-beating credit cards to us in grim supplication. We were so mortified by the inexplicable shift in energy that we (wisely) declined to take the money and ended the sales process, and soon thereafter removed Cortex from our list of demonstrations.

As a person that reads manhwa and a lot of the stuff I like isn't translated to English. AI translations just TRANSLATE like that. It tries to go word for word, which DOESN'T WORK for Korean. It makes entire pages incomprehensible.
