"If anyone will come looking for me down here..some great fucking place I chose.."

Your eyes darted towards the puddle of blood accumulating around your leg. Pain seeped out from inside the wound alongside the red liquid, staining your flesh and ruining your clothes.

But that was the least of your concerns.

Your group had been completly taken by surprise. Only moments ago you stood alongside the cleaners, trying to figure out how to evacuate the citizens without alarming the nearby trash beasts, when all of a sudden the enemy decided to come to you.

One of them had torn through half of the ground you stood on, its claws ripping through the masses as if it was nothing. Although you and your team had managed to react in time and push the last group into safety, you had less luck avoiding the attack.

You fell right into the abyss it had created.

Meters into a narrow crevice, deep enough to swallow up most of the sunlight.

Not even your voice made it all the way up, a few meters was all it managed to travel before it died down. The distance was too great and all strength had left you. And on top of that, lifting your leg became a pain so unbearable, you did not even bother to go for a second attempt.

"Dammit..what now.."

There was no way that the cleaners would forget about you, especially not your friend Riyou, yet with how things were going, it was only a matter of time before you would pass out from the blood loss. And once the lights went off, there was no guarantee that they'd ever go on again.

If it hadn't been for your Jinki cushioning your fall you would have been gone for good.

"I'm not going out like that..no way in hell.."

Your hands carefully reached for the feathered cushion beneath you, its soft touch giving you a tiny bit of comfort.

And just like that it hit you.

With the last bit of strength left in your body, you ordered a couple of feathers into the air. The white feathers danced before your eyes and lifted into the air.

Someone..please notice..

They kept rising until they were out of sight, beyond the small gap you could no longer make out. To stay conscious until they reach someone was your only goal, no matter how long–

"Found cha!" The familiar voice rang through your ears long before you could even see its owner, yet it rang full of certainty.

So fast??

A flash– no, a person, charged down at you in full speed with no concern of its landing or safety.

"You ain't looking all too good!"

"Fu? No, Hii..!"

Hii effortlessly struck his landing a few meters away from you. His body moved instantly upon coming in contact with the ground and charged to your side.

Your view was now nothing more than a faint blur but despite the terrible vision, the three feathers stuck to his clothes did not go unnoticed by you.

"So..fast..how?" You caught up the words.

It took the boy a few moments to realize what you meant, a triumphing laugh proudly slipping between his gritted teeth.

"Ha! These feathers only confirmed my suspicions. Ain't no way a smarty like you would aim to land anywhere but a place that allows you to hide away from another attack. Only downside was that the beast wouldn't be the only ones finding you, so i was on the lookout for traces of you when I saw these feathers. And bam! I saw them dangling in the air with no care in the world."

Hii was just talking away, his enthusiastic tendencies brightening up the mood. He tied up your wound and propped you onto his back, his hand tightly holding onto yours. His words had brought forth a fuzzy sensation inside your heart.

"Hold on tight, cushion!"

What kind of nickname is that..

With the last of your energy you held onto him tight and allowed him to carry you up the wall and into safety.

What a cool guy..

Was the last thought before you drifted off.

After that day, you made an effort to warm up to the male, as a token of your appreciation of course! His presence became radiant, illuminating every room he walked into.

His nervous chuckles and worried expression pulled on your heartstrings and each time you would lock eyes with him, you would feel your heart skip a beat.

Fu of course noticed the shadow that watched his every move and began to worry himself out of his mind. Where you plotting something? Had Corvus send you to test him? Fu felt anxious at first yet avoiding you was no good either. Because something inside of him looked forward to seeing you every time.

"Fu! Hey!" You cheered, finally having a moment alone with him in the common room. To say that he almost passed out was unfortunately an understatement. Fu felt himself panicking, both flustered and concerned.

He wanted to talk to you, have a proper conversation to get to know you better as well (because you seemed genuinely interested in becoming his friend) but his own fears were holding him back.

"The other day, I wanted to say thank you for saving me. Eishia told me that you stayed by my side to make sure that I was safe."

"Egh– I only did what I was ordered to do, yes..what is was ordered to do ma'am!"

"And you did a great job, seriously! catching on to my thought process, I regretted it halfway through. But you're just incredible, indeed..and don't call me ma'am, we're the same age.."

Your fingers fiddles with themselves in an attempt to contain your excitement. This was the first time you had a proper conversation with the teen that wasn't getting eavesdropped by a certain humble cleaner.

The boy immediately caught on to this small motion of yours, it caused his thinking bolts to rattle.

"Hii!"

"Wha?"

"Hii knows how to hold a conversation! I'm sure..you'd like to talk to him..!"

Fu pointed at the doll in his hoodie pocket, his eyes moving back and forth between the two of you.

Was it okay for you to just order him around for your own gain? Fu was visibly uncomfortable, waiting for your command, anything to guide hin through the conversation. Yet you yourself swarmed in uncertainty. It didn't feel right forcing him into a state that benefited you, thus you did the only thing that has always brought you comfort.

His hands were shaking uncontrollably as you took them into yours, yet they felt warm and surprisingly soft– just like they did back then. You guided him towards one of the sofas, where you sat him down before positioning yourself next to the awkward guy.

Before he could react in any way, you pulled out the empty pillow case from the small pouch on your belt and activated it. Within seconds it filled up with the soft feathers that came from the same pouch, until it stood proud and big.

"I don't share it with just anyone, you know..but you're rather sweet. Plus we need to work on your confidence!"

"Y-yes ma'am yes!" Fu straightened his back and aligned his hand with his head as if he were in the military. It made you chuckle.

His past with the cleaners had painted him in a bad light. But all it took was four seconds to know that Fu had a soft core inside his heart.

The next days were spend with many more silly interactions. He grew accustomed to your jokes and warm presence, even craving it after the harsh missions. Fu felt a feeling of comfort bloom inside his chest at the mentioning of your name and for the first time in his life did he want to take something by his own free will.

I should just go for it Hii, right..?

The two of you were on a small stroll through town, running some errands put upon you by Semiu. Lost in the moment you just talked away at all that has happened throughout your day– but Fu was mentally absent.

Your hands, he wanted to feel them again. His eyes were locked onto your fingers, following their every move as if they were connected by strings. They were all he could think of.

Go for it, go!

Desperation seeped from his skin like an odor, yet without a command he found it rather difficult to pull through with his plan.

What if they say no? Or pull away??

Fu couldn't even bear thinking about all that could go wrong, the shame and the humiliation, thus he distanced himself. The space between the both of you grew bigger and bigger, until even you had realized it.

"What are you doing, silly?" You raised your brow and reached for his hand. For a moment he felt a swarm of heat embrace his heart but it was only short lived. Once he had returned to your side, your fingers distanced themselves again, leaving behind a cold sensation.

"As I was saying, if you like and feel comfortable, we can take this slow and–"

Your hands suddenly found themselves engulfed by a familiar warmth. Soft fingers wrapped around your hand, gentle yet with determination. A short glimpse was spared down, before you attempted to lock eyes with him. But Fu did not even bother to return your gaze, knowing he would just turn a mess if he looked at you now.

"I did it, I did it!"

"..You said that out loud." You laughed at his flustered expression and pulled him closer.

Holding on to him was a habit you wouldn't mind growing accustomed to. Fu too felt himself cared for in a way he has never been before and he surely wouldn't mind if it continued. Because your touches brought him a comfort that warmed his heart.
