Bona on Patrol

This week saw Bona following the patrol unit into the TWA Seblat Conservation Area. The patrol unit works twice per month in the conservation area to prevent human / elephant conflict and prevent encroachment and illegal logging. As part of the team Bona enjoys the week foraging through the jungle and when she is old enough she will be of great assistance to the work that is being carried out to protect the remaining wild elephants and the many other endangered species found in the conservation area. Bona truly loves getting out and about in the jungles, like a little holiday from camp. As a young calf she does have a big curiosity and it’s good to see her getting out and about and to one day know she will have the honor of protecting her species just like her brothers and sisters of PLG Seblat.

Recent CRU Patrol TWA Seblat

Recently the Seblat CRU team had some training for a new camera trap project due to be carried out within the TWA Seblat conservation area. The training was carried out by the great FFI team of Kerinci Seblat National Park. They graciously travelled down to the Seblat Conservation area and spent two days getting the team up to speed on camera trap operation and implementation in the field.

The camera trap project will help provide the CRU team with better information about the wildlife and the habitat within the TWA Seblat Conservation area. This information will be helpful in preparing better patrols in areas that have a high range of wild elephants in order to prevent the wild elephants from entering the local villages bordering the conservation area. More information about the camera trap project to follow soon as the project begins soon.

Once the infield training was completed with the FFI team the CRU continued on patrol for the week. Patrolling the borders of the conservation area and checking for poaching and encroachment and illegal loggers. It’s all part of the important role of the patrol team to protect the TWA Seblat Conservation Area.
