Fun fact I physically restrained myself from giving Alfred a Ra’s related backstory while writing this chapter. I fear they may have chemistry no matter what. I loved the idea of Alfred finally meeting the man who trained but abused his son, and for Ra’s to meet the one person Bruce would never let go of during his training. The beta he spoke about like he hung the stars, to the frustration of Ra’s.

Yeah! But it’s one that only rises to the surface when Talia or Ra’s are near, as both pack leadership and the ones who have bathed in the Pit the most. In a way, Ra’s is the Pit - and Talia would be one day, if she followed in his footsteps. So Bruce and Jason are responding to Ra’s and Talia, but not to each other necessarily.

This chapter was so so so good. I was so shook by the reveal about Bruce! It also made me think that somewhere in Alfred's history there's a moment where he is all alone looking an incomplete game of chess and a notebook full of the moves that have been made not knowing that there was a chance that that game was never gonna get completed (aka a spin on one of the single saddest scenes in all of gotham knights) which does in turn make Bruce almost dying on the floor of the batcave even sadder. I am going to be thinking about the implications of an uncompleted chess game and how Alfred might have asked Bruce to "just indulge this old man and play some chess" between the events of a coral room and ASOH because he was briefly so scared he had lost Bruce entirely, not knowing that he HAD in fact lost Bruce entirely and not even known

Anyways this is how I felt reading this chapter after seeing you reblog that picture of how hot Bruce is from Gotham Knights with the green eyes:

Aghh 🥺 the Alfred angst is infinite if you think about it too long. Losing Jason nearly broke their tiny pack at the time, but if he’d lost Bruce, too? I’m not sure he would’ve pulled through. What use is being Pack Beta to a pack of no one? All he would think is that he failed Martha and Thomas.

I know we'll probably get more on this as under the ivy develops anad cru as a whole, but what are the dynamics going to be with jason and his baby siblings? are there going to be any issues just bcs i know a lot of the time there can be problems/insecurities when parents have more kids after the elder ones leave the nest (literally in cru lol), but I image he's very overprotective of them and helps a lot <3 just curious on your thoughts!

I don’t think there will be issues. I think there’s a certain bitter sweetness to knowing that the twins won’t grow up like he did. But blaming Bruce for that now is pointless. They’ve both suffered for it, Bruce especially, and Jason learned in ASOH that beating the shit out of Bruce as revenge didn’t fix any of those things either. Bruce was still sorry. Bruce still loved him. Bruce would let himself get beaten half to death if it meant being able to hold his son again.

The twins are the product of a new history. I think if they’d been present in Jason’s early years with Bruce, it would be very different. But the pack structure smooths away a lot of that tension and conflict. It gives them both what they’ve needed for so long.

I think being around with the twins also helps Jason see why Bruce’s own actions about his pending presentation weren’t as cut and dry as he thought they were. Why didn’t Bruce tell Jason immediately when he suspected he would present omega? Because he didn’t want to hurt him, or crush his dreams, over a possibility. Because he hated himself so much and feared Jason falling into the same hole.

But yeah overprotective to the max. I think part of Jason wants to make up for his own mistakes by keeping them safe and loved. But what he doesn’t realize is that Bruce doesn’t need him to do that. He is already SO loved as he is, scars and all. The pups are precious, but they aren’t people quite yet — Jason is, though. And he’s less than a year (maybe a little bit longer) into being an omega. You think Bruce is gonna take his eyes off him? No way.

I just wanted to drop in and let you know that the entirety of the CRU series has given me a thrill while reading that I haven't felt in years, especially UTI (this is the most wonderful acronym for a fic ever). I am enamored with this universe! Thank you so much for all your hard work to share it with us!

Not the acronym 🫣 haha thank you, I’m so glad you like it! It’s crazy to think it all started years ago with one small fic. I had no idea we’d end up here. I take zero credit for it! Haha. But I’m so happy that people enjoy it and enjoy actively participating as the fics progress. That’s the dream as an author.
