TWD - Negan Imagine ~ “Acheron I”
Imagine about the premiere of Season 11
Summary: Negan and the Reader join the dangerous mission for more food, that leads them through the DC metro which is filled with both dead and living threats.
Cold wind blew through the open door of the small wooden house, bringing a shiver down your back as its frostiness brushed over your skin and urged you to pull your leather jacket tighter around your body. With a soft sigh you ran your fingers over the cans and glass containers that were filled with small rations of food, counting them only to conclude what you’d already known: There weren’t enough of them. Days had passed since Gabriel and Aaron had come back from their disappointing run, and ever since the realization had set in that they had returned empty handed, without any of the food that Alexandria had so desperately hoped for, a gloomy atmosphere hung over the community. The disappointment had hit you and Negan hard as well, vanishing all your hopes within mere seconds of putting your future plans into practice as soon as they were back and had the food, the last piece that you would’ve needed to obtain to feel certain enough that it was save to start giving a family a try. And now you had to wait. Again. A group had headed out for another run this morning to search through a nearby military compound, and while there was a sense of hope hanging in the air that they’d find something, no one dared to be too hopeful. “Looks like we got some more beans left, that’s something”, you heard Negan say as he walked inside the house with two jars of black beans in his hand, raising them up for them to see you before he set them down next to the others on the table. “How are things outside?”, you asked, nodding towards the table that was settled against the wooden railing of the house’s small porch, where Gabriel was standing, leaned over a notebook and checking off items beside him. “Pretty much the same as in here, ‘cept that it’s even colder outside”, Negan sighed, shrugging his shoulders while a small grin stayed stuck on his lips,”Dick-shrinking cold.” “Well that sounds shitty”, you chuckled, leaning yourself slightly against the table as you looked up at him and reached up to pull the navy blue beanie that had slipped a bit up his head softly back down. Tilting your head slightly you looked at him, smiling to yourself as you ran your finger over the yellow stitching of the beanie before your hand dropped down to give his jaw a quick caress. “You really like that beanie, huh?”, Negan grinned, licking his lips as he raised his brows suggestively yet still quite playful. “Yeah”, you chuckled,”I’ve told you before, beanies really suit you-” “They’re back from the run”, Gabriel’s voice suddenly cut you off as you saw him standing by the open door, leaning inside to get both of your attention. “And?”
“Found a bunch of food. We still have to see how long it will last us”, he said, waving at you to come join him outside. The first part of the group was already walking further down the street and had left two large boxes of dried food in front of the porch, while the second part was just walking up to the house, with Maggie in their front, carrying a large bag over her shoulder. “Can you get that?”, Gabriel asked Negan, already walking down the porch’s steps towards a pair of woman who were arguing over a can of soup, a sight you saw way too often lately. “Sure thing, boss”, Negan sighed, giving you an uneasy look before he moved down onto the street and took the bag from Maggie as soon as she stopped, while she watched him like a hawk watches its prey. Negan let out an unnerved sigh as he turned back around and moved up back beside you, starting to unpack the goods from the bag. You watched as Gabriel walked back to the house, clearly annoyed by the fight that seemed to be solved, though the women still glared at each other as they moved down the street, past Cole and three people, a woman and two man, who you were sure hadn’t seen around before. “Who’s that?”, you asked Gabriel as he shifted next to you, nodding towards them as they reached Maggie and started to chat. “The woman’s Agatha, the shorter man is Frost and the big one’s Duncan. They’re from Maggie’s community, Cole found them close to Alexandria searching for her and the rest”, the priest said as you looked over the newbies, rather annoyed to see them join Alexandria as well. That feeling might be unfair, but Maggie and her people had brought nothing but problems for you and Negan since they got here, and their way of acting as if they owned the place and taking whatever they wanted kept on rubbing you the wrong way. Negan had ripped his ass off and had practically saved each and every person walking through these streets and was still side eyed by a small portion of Alexandria, and Maggie’s people had done nothing, absolutely nothing for this place, and got greeted with open arms. So seeing three more of them, three more mouths to feed on top of that, didn’t exactly excite you. Your eyes were just about to sway off of them as you caught the woman glancing over at you, eying first you up and down, then Negan, before she said something to Maggie that you couldn’t hear, though the look in her eyes was enough for you to like her less than you already did. “Negan, you’re gonna finish this up?”, you heard Gabe ask before he looked over at you, ripping you out of your thoughts, “And we’ll head over to the meeting room, we need a meeting to discuss our options...I don’t think will last as long as we hope.” The meeting room was filled up to the rim, stuffed with anyone who had a say-so in Alexandria, plus the three newcomers and Maggie’s her right hand men, that were carrying the two large boxes of new food into the room while Gabriel’s eyes kept on swaying over it. A pondering look was painted on his face, stern and focused before he finally let out a sigh and looked into the round. “This will last us one week”, Gabriel sighed as his eyes ran over the food rations once more, sorrowful and tense, just like everyone else in the room. You’d hoped that it would last longer, at least long enough for you to have enough time and energy to search for more, but Gabriel’s early concerns had kept you from becoming too hopeful. “That’s it?”, Daryl asked as Gabe started to nod, his eyes still fixed at the rations as you heard Aaron’s voice echoing through the room, desperately trying to be hopeful. “We can make it work.” “How? We just took in two new communities, we have no crops, no backstop”, you heard Carol say, and though you were still very much on bad terms with her, you had to agree. There were simply too many people, and too little food. “We can do it. We got people out there right now scavenging houses for materials”, Aaron asserted again, only for Gabriel to shake his head. “They’re slowing down”,the priest said, sighing deeply as he shifted over his chair,”It’s a little hard to put up a broken wall with broken tools and an empty stomach.” “Our people are good hunters. Frost and I can take a group out”, the newly joined woman of Maggie’s group, Agatha, threw into the conversation, only for Daryl to be the one who shook his head instead of Gabriel. “The ground’s all spent, the last big horde scared all the animals away..we gotta find new territory”, Daryl said, tapping his fingers restlessly over the rough edge of the large table. “Are you sure?”, the woman asked, rather desperate while you started to nod and glimpse over at her. “We were out there just a few days ago. There was barely anything in Daryl’s traps”, you said, sighing softly as you leaned yourself against the wooden wall behind you,”Going hunting is probably just a waste of energy.” “Yes...and we don’t have time, we need food”, Gabriel chimed back in as he put more pressure behind his words, fueled by the tension that just kept on rising within each person inside the room,”Lots of it, now.” An uncomfortable silence set in, fueling the suspense that hung heavily in the air before you heard Maggie’s voice cutting through it. “I know one more place”, she said, immediately direction the attention of each and every person inside the room towards her. She leaned herself onto the backrest of the chair in front of her, looking into the round before her eyes landed on Gabriel and Daryl. “The place I lived before this...where we lived. Meridian. It’s got plenty of food, water, crops and animals.” “Yeah, now it’s gone”, Elijah, another member of Maggie’s group, said, speaking out what everyone was thinking. The destruction of that place had lead her to come back in the first place, so why was she bringing it up again? “So what happened out there?”, Rosita asked after a moment, crossing her arms as she looked up from her spot on the chair to Maggie who let out a sigh before she gripped tighter onto the rest of the chair and gulped thickly. “We were on a mission. Leading walkers away. Duncan, Agatha and Frost took the last shift at the front of the herd, going miles out. I circled back with Elijah and Cole...on the way back home things kept going sideways and we got stuck out on the road. Looking back at it, I don’t think it was an accident..suddenly we heard these screams in the distance so we raced back home, but it was too late...most of our people had been slaughtered and the rest of us barely got away with our lives.” She finally paused, still not enlightening anyone why it was a good idea to head back to the place where so many of her people had been brutally slaughtered. “The people that attacked us, we only knew two things about them”,she finally added, pausing again almost theatrically long as her glance swayed through the room,”They come at night, and by the time you see them you’re already dead...that was before we caught one, Daryl was with me. He came after us alone...why? Because there aren’t that many of ‘em...They’re at meridian now. There’s plenty of food to feed Alexandria until we get this place back up and running again. That’s why they took it, we just need to take it back.” “So, you’re leaving to fight ghosts, that’s the plan?”, Aaron asked in the very moment Maggie’s voice hushed only to earn an irritated look from her. “Do you have a better one?” “Sure, fix up Alexandria for starters. The walls are not stable, walkers will get inside that’s not if, it’s when”, he said, tension filling his voice as he stepped closer towards the table in the middle, trying to make a point as he looked from face to face,”Alexandria needs us.” “This is for Alexandria”,Maggie countered nearly immediately,”My son is here. I have skin in the game too.” “Yeah but if they slaughtered everyone once, what makes this situation any different now?”, Rosita said from her spot on the chair still with her arms crossed and a testing look on her face, while Maggie started back up for another try to convince the people inside from her plan, and you were actually listening to it too. It sounded dangerous, too dangerous for your taste but the lowering food supplies were an extremely large danger on its own as well. So while trusting Maggie blindly with this truly wasn’t an option for you, you were willing to listen. The concerns about food were basically the only reason holding you and Negan back from moving forward with your future plans, so solving this felt like one of your biggest priorities at the moment. “Duncan, Agatha and Frost are meridian’s best fighters and now I have them”, Maggie finally said before her glance swayed from Rosita back at the others, without brushing over you once though ,”Hopefully some of you too.” “Maggie this sounds like a suicide mission”, Rosita quickly countered again, and you couldn’t disagree either. Choosing between staying and possibly starving, and going and risking your life, was like choosing between the lesser of two evils. “Oh if you don’t have food, it’s not gonna matter anyway”, Daryl said, getting up from his spot on the chair,”I’ll go. Anybody else?” “We’ll form a group, I’m certain of that”, Gabriel said with a nod before he looked back over at Maggie,”But before we get more people, let’s figure out some details. Where is this place? Meridian?” Stepping closer to the table, Maggie ran her finger over the large map that was as usual spread out on the large table, just before her movement stopped and she tapped her finger against the paper. “Up here”, she said, and from afar you could only see her pointing at an area somewhere north from Alexandria before her finger moved further over the paper and started to circle around the red dot that indicated Washington DC on the map,”We shouldn’t take the direct route I’m sure they will check these paths...it takes longer and it might be a bit complicated, but we should take a route either through DC or right past it, depending on which works best.” “You know your way along there?”, Daryl asked as he stepped closer to the table again and glanced down at the map. “That’s the tricky part”, she sighed, while you still watched her closely before Gabe’s voice directed your attention right at him. “Negan knows DC right?”,he asked, confusing you for a moment while he kept going,“I remember talking to him about it in our sessions. He went to college there, didn’t he?” “Yeah”, you nodded, “Why?” “Well we can use someone who knows the area well”, Gabriel said, speaking out what you’d assumed, but you’d needed him to say it out loud. You gulped as you shifted from foot to foot, trying to find a good and fitting answer. Going on a dangerous trip with a group that included Maggie and her people sounded like something you should keep yourself and your husband far away from, but deep down, you knew better. Negan’s focus was on the future, on the plans you’d made and you knew that he’d say yes, just to be able to forge his own destiny again, and get you the food and supplies you needed to put those plans into practice. And if he was going, there was no doubt that you would go too. “Well you gotta ask him but I’m sure. he’s gonna say yes”, you finally said, taking a deep breath as you looked at Gabriel,”And if he’s in, I’m coming too.” “You can’t”,he directly countered, his brows furrowing and his face lightening up with disbelief,”You got the infirmary, you-” “If he’s going, I’m going too”, you simply stated, calm but firm. You knew that Gabriel would say something like this, but you weren’t gonna budge. You didn’t trust Maggie, nor her group around Negan, and you sure as hell weren’t gonna let him leave alone with them. “Alexandria needs all their doctors”, you suddenly heard Maggie say, and just this one sentence directly rubbed you the wrong way. Maybe you felt initially hostile towards her regardless of what she was saying, but now, it felt nevertheless as if she wasn’t truly concerned about the amount of doctors that walked through Alexandria and rather about the fact that you’d join along with Negan, and just as this thought crossed your mind, it led you to another one that you’d missed before. She hadn’t said anything against Gabriel for suggesting Negan to join. Nothing. Not even a word. And this realization in combination with her reluctance to let you tag along made you feel even more suspicious about her. It might have been a coincidence, but it very well could be her seeing this as a chance to get Negan into a dangerous, possibly deadly situation, with no one there to have his back. “And I need Negan to come back from this mission alive and in one piece”, you said, looking straight at her as she clenched her jaw and gripped the rest of the chair a bit tighter. “Alexandria needs you alive and in one piece”, she said, and the way she said it, the way her tone seemed a bit too tense and urging, told you that your worries weren’t unfounded. Minutes before she was trying to make people join her cause, didn’t say anything against Negan possibly joining but now that you were trying to do so as well, it was a problem? How was she suddenly so concerned about Alexandria’s doctors when it hadn’t bothered her before? When it would’ve been entirely fine for her if you would’ve had followed through with Carol’s little plan and left Alexandria with Negan? “Is that really the reason?”, it slipped out of your lips, as you could feel yourself starting to grow more restless. The run-in with her earlier this week had already shrunken your thread of patience with her and this was enough to let it snap. ”Or do you just not want me there so it’s easier for you to get rid of him as soon as he’s got you through DC and done his job? ‘Cause I don’t want this group to arrive back here without him and tell me that he got bitten by a walker out of nowhere or that a bullet somehow ended up in his brain.” “I think you’re being a bit paranoid, this won’t happen”, Gabriel chimed in, trying to calm the tension as your eyes shot from Maggie towards him. “Well, I’m not taking my chances. If he’s going, I’m going, that’s it”, you said firmly ,”The infirmary is quite empty right now so Steve and the others can handle it for the time that I’m gone, and you can need a doctor out there too, you know that.” A sigh fell from Gabriel’s lips, and you could finally tell that he’d realized that there was no sense in trying to discuss this further with you. You’d made your decision, and they’d have to live with it. “Fair point...I’ll come by your house later, we’ll figure something out.” “So you want me to be your DC tour guide, is that right?”, Negan’s voice sounded through your kitchen, merely a few hours later, far after the sun had vanished and allowed the night to step in and fill the sky with darkness. You’d talked to him about the mission the very moment you’d left the meeting room and got back to the houses, and while he’d said just what you’d predicted, you still let Gabe come by your house to make sure that the plan hadn’t changed, and you didn’t get any sudden surprises. “Basically...yes, and we need capable fighters. You check that box quite well”, “Alright”, Negan said, starting to nod as he hand his hand over his stubbly jaw ,”And that place has tons of food ‘n shit?” “Yes, that’s what Maggie said”, Gabriel confirmed, clearing his throat slightly ,”Her community did very well before the reapers took it.” For a short moment, Negan grew silent, and even though you were sure of his answer, you still awaited him to raise his voice again as much as Gabriel. “Okay...well, I’m in.” “I assume that means that you’re in too?”, Gabe asked as he looked over at you and watched you nod immediately. “Yes.” “Good”, he said, looking at the both of you once more before he started to make his way towards the front door,”Well, then get some rest, we’ll leave by noon tomorrow.” “Yeah, good night”, you said as you watched him slip outside and close the door with a small thud behind him before he vanished in the darkness. “If this works and we got enough food...”,you heard Negan starting to say, directing your attention from the door right back at him and the small smile that laid on his lips,”We can start trying soon as we’re back here.” “Yeah”,you nodded, mirroring his smile as you moved over to him, sighing as you plopped down on the chair next to him and felt him grasping your hand gently,”Let’s hope this is our ticket to a family.” “Yes”, Negan said, squeezing your hand softly before he breathed deeply out as his mine grew a little more serious for a moment,”We gotta keep an eye on Maggie and her folks though, cause something about her being fine to just let me join without any hesitation feels kinda fishy. I don’t wanna serve as her bait, and I don’t want you too either.” You nodded, thinking back to the similar thoughts that had coursed through your head during the meeting before you shifted closer towards him and gave him a soft smile. “We got each other out there though”, you said, squeezing his hand softly,”We can watch each others backs. I won’t let her try and do shit to you. Not ever.” “I know”, he nodded as a small grin mixed into his smile while he raised your hand to his lips to press a kiss over its back, “Well, let’s get in bed, huh? Wanna soak up as much of that comfy shit as I can before we gotta sleep on the ground and shit from tomorrow on.” A word and a blow. Compared to usual you were in bed early, trying to get as much sleep in your cozy bed as you could. You were cuddled up to Negan when you laid in bed, snuggling closer into his warm embrace while you still chatted about some lighthearted topics here and there before you finally dozed off. Your sleep was deep and heavy, keeping you in its grasp until you could feel shifting and restless movements around you that started to drag you back to consciousness. You were still stuck somewhere between the realms as you felt the warm body beside you shaking as the arms that usually held you still were wrapped tightly around you, as if you’d vanish if they’d loosen just the slightest. “Negan?”,you drowsily asked, still not entirely awake as you heard Negan’s uneasy voice sounding through to you. “Shit, I didn’t mean to wake you up”, he said shakily, loosening his grasp slightly as you shifted a little back to get a glimpse at him in the dim moon light. His hair was disheveled, his eyes blearly and the uneasy and nearly panicky glance in them made it look like he’d been through hell and back. “It’s okay...but what’s wrong?”, you said, worried as you reached your hand up to rub it softly over his trembling arm,”You’re shaking.” “Just a fucking nightmare”, he grumbled, gulping thickly as you sighed softly. “Shit”, you cursed, stroking gently up his shoulder as you held his glance,”Been a while since the last one, huh?” He nodded, reaching up to stroke over his face before he dropped his still slightly shaking arm quickly back around you still obviously trying to keep you as close as he could. “What happened?” “Just-”, he breathed out, clenching his jaw tightly as he tried to keep his voice steady and from breaking off agin,”She killed you...I-...I fuckin’ dreamt that she killed you to get back at me.” Your heart sank as you saw more tears forming in his eyes again and he sniffled slightly before he forced himself to keep talking. “And I-...I was so concentrated on thinking she was out for my ass, and crap I know she is... but what if she uses the opportunity out there on that mission to take from me what I took from her?” A sigh left your lips as you reached up to stroke the first tears that had fallen down his cheeks from his rough skin and his stubble, trying to search for the right words. “It’s not-”, you started, cutting yourself off as your glance met his teary one,”Baby that’s not gonna happen. In the end, she needs both of us to take that place back and we two got each other’s backs right? I get your concerns and I’m not gonna lie, I’m a bit worried too but just as we said...as long as we’re a team, we can make it.” You watched his glance drop from yours as you brushed your thumb over his cheekbone, tilting your head slightly to get a better look at him in the dark. “We don’t have to join them though..if you don’t feel comfortable-” “No, we need that food”, Negan cut you off, shaking his head as his glance connected with yours again ,”I don’t wanna wait even longer to start trying...but I could go alone and keep you out of this-” “Absolutely not”,you said, cutting him off this time as you shifted a little closer and sighed softly,”Negan, I’m just as worried about you as you are about me...we’re safest when we’re together and can look out for each other. You know that. Besides that, trying something on me would get her on Daryl’s wrong side, I can’t imagine she’d want that.” For another moment, Negan stared at you visibly trying hard to believe you instead of the horror that his nightmare had shown him before he slowly started to nod. “Yeah, I hope so”, he gulped, another shivering breath falling from his lips as you dropped back into the pillows, shuffled with your back a little up and opened your arms. “Come here”,you said, motioning towards yourself as you gave him another small smile,”Let me hold you and tomorrow we’ll just start fresh into the day...it’s gonna be fine.” Slowly, Negan started to nod as he shifted closer, enough for you to wrap him up in your arms as he nuzzled his face into the crook of your neck and cuddled closer. “I won’t let anybody hurt you”, you heard Negan mumble against your skin, holding you tighter as you reached up to caress your fingers through his hair,”Not even a damn hair on your head.” “I know”, you said, leaning in to press a kiss against his forehead while you could feel him starting to relax, as his breath got slower and steadier, and his his body slowly stopped to tremble, “This works the other way ‘round too.” Negan nodded against you, humming in agreement as you held him closer, hoping to keep him from falling back into the nightmare. “Now, what kind of food do you hope we find at this meridian place? Sounds like they had plenty of good stuff there”, you asked after a few silent moments, hoping to lighten the mood a little and distract him before you’d both try to fall asleep again, just like he did when you had your nightmares, “Besides that chocolate pudding.” “I want rocky road ice cream”, it nearly shot out of Negan’s mouth, almost as if he’d been waiting for the chance to say it. “That was fast”, you laughed, glad though that your try to distract him seemed to work as he shifted a little closer to you and let out a snort. “You don’t?”,he asked with a small chuckle while you pulled the blankets tighter around both of your bodies,”That’s something those runs could never make me hope for. Can’t find nothing out there but ice cream soup...so maybe, maybe we get lucky and they got some rocky road in some kinda freezer, or shit, any other kinda ice cream.” “Hmm that’s a pretty good point”, you mumbled, feeling how Negan started to relax a little more in your embrace as he cuddled his large frame a little more into your side,”Well then lets hope for some ice cream.” “Damn right”, he mumbled, just as a yawn fell from his lips and you continued to caress through his hair, just the way he liked it. For a small while longer, you kept your conversation going, sure to keep it lighthearted to keep those negative thoughts out of his head until both of your lids started to grow heavier, your breaths grew steadier and the sleep began to pull you into its depths again, now for good. The morning came quick and so did the start of the mission, that lead you away from Alexandria, up north towards DC, right into a rain storm that had already been brewing over Alexandria. The clouds had hung heavy over the sky when you’d left, and had only gotten darker with every mile that you put behind yourselves until it finally broke down on you as soon as you entered the city’s area. It was pelting down on you, heavy raindrops fell from a sky, so thick that you could see each of them splatter as they hit the ground and so dense, that it looked like uncountable threads of rain reached from the dark clouds down to the earth. Shivering, you pulled the hood of your rain jacket closer over your head, trying to keep the droplets from falling into your face so you could attempt to somehow see where you were going. “Negan, how much longer does it take to get through the city?”, you heard Maggie call out through the loudness of the rain storm from the other side of the group. “We got about six hours left. We should hunker down and wait for this to pass”, Negan called back, his deep voice cutting through the sounds of the rain just as a voice, which sounded much like Frost’s joined in and made your heart rush with just one sentence. “You don’t get a vote on this, Asshole”, Maggie’s minion called out, and for a moment, you asked yourself whether you heard right what he’d just said, whether this person who’d been in Alexandria for literally one day was trying to play boss. Anger was brewing in you, poking through the startled feeling and pressuring you to say something before Daryl took that chance from you. “No, he’s right. We need to find something”, he called out, bringing you relief for at least a small moment before you heard Maggie’s voice again, distant but just loud enough to echo through the storm. “No we don’t have time!” “We can’t stay out here”, Daryl called back, speaking nothing but the truth since continuing to walk through the rain wouldn’t work for much longer. It didn’t make sense, it was slowing you down and seeing the path that you’d planned to follow was nearly impossible, just as catching walkers in the dark, which was the dangerous part. “C’mon lets get in there”, you heard him call out, gesturing towards a sign that pointed towards an entrance of the DC metro, that felt like a welcome hideout from the rain.
Bare moments later you walked down the slippery, wet stairs of the entrance, past weeds that had found a new home in the creeks of the cement and had grown to encase large parts of the staircase and trash that had been laying there for a decade. A breath of relief fell from your lips as you finally entered the main hall of the station and pulled the jacket’s hood off your head, glad to finally get a breathing spell away from the storm. It was dark and murky, only enlightened by your flashlights that bounced over the walls, inspecting the place while dog ran in between the legs, sniffling and checking out the area on his own. “You good?”, you heard Negan ask as he moved beside you while you gave him a small nod and let your backpack down for a moment, careful to keep your bow from damage on the cement ground and keep the arrows inside their quiver. “Yeah, just glad to be out of them storm”, you said, stroking some of the rain droplets off your rain jacket and pulling the zipper down, hoping to let it dry a little bit while the leather jacket that you still wore underneath kept you warm. “Alright, this way”, you heard Daryl say, pointing with the flashlight onto the train tracks that lead deeper into the underground system. “Not to sound like a broken record but I think we should hunker down and wait for this storm to pass”, Negan said, speaking out what you’d been thinking since you’d reached the metro. “You don’t wanna go in there?”, Maggie called out, barking at Negan as if he’d suggested to go kill every soul within this station and then some. “No, I don’t”, he answered, calm but firm as he stared down at her, only to be met with a fury glare. “I don’t give a shit”, she spat, irritating you more than she already had with her first question. Negan was only being reasonable, he wasn’t suggesting to turn around and head back home, he just wanted to wait for the storm to pass instead of heading into the possibly deadly depths of the subway. “Seriously? He’s right”, you said, bringing her fury look to switch from Negan right towards you, though you were sure to make your point, you weren’t gonna back off just because she was acting like a moody toddler and didn’t want to listen to a logical advice. “We don’t know what’s in there or if there’s even a way out. The tunnels could be blocked and who knows how many dead lurk in there. We could lose more time trying to find a way through here than we would waiting here till the storm’s gone and just continue to travel above the ground”, you said, only to be met with another glare of hers before she stared back up at Negan. “Which way?”, she snapped, lightening her flashlight at him while your thread of patience was growing thinner, just as it had in the meeting room the day prior. You weren’t one to snap fast, most definitely not, you could usually keep your head cool well, but she, hell she started to belong to the few people who could make the fury grow within you lickety-split. “Daryl?”,you asked, looking over at your half-brother, trying to get some support ,”You know it’s smarter to stay here.” He barely looked at you, and instead of saying something he stayed silent, even though you knew that he was deep down aware of the risks of the underground system, but for some reason, he wasn’t speaking up against Maggie. “Which way?, she demanded to know again, seriously starting to piss you off with her tone towards Negan, especially since she was the one depending on him within these moments. She had no right to speak to him the way she did and demand information and help from him in the very same moment. You looked over at your husband, watching him clench his jaw before he sighed defenselessly. “The yellow line north switches to blue at Reagan national and from there, we hop on red toward Bethesda”, he finally said, and without any recognition, Maggie moved away, towards the train racks. “Hey can I talk to you?”, Negan asked as he stepped towards Daryl, only for you to see how your half brother shown his flashlight up into Negan’s face. “Why is that? Think we’re buddies or something?”, he retorted with a snide tone, irritating you as you started with furrowed brows at him, visibly confused by his over the top reaction. He hadn’t acted like that in Alexandria to Negan, not outside, not at your home, but oddly enough now that Maggie was around, he was acting just as pissy as she was towards Negan. He was running after her like a puppy, licking her boots, and the feeling this was giving you was more than icky. “Just wanted to ask him a simple damn question”, Negan sighed, gripping his crowbar tighter as the majority of the group was moving down the train tracks, following Maggie blindly into the darkness. You only heard a few more footsteps behind you, that soon revealed themselves to be Cole and Frost who pushed themselves purposely harsh past Negan, bumping into his shoulders like high school bullies in teen movies. It was ridiculous. “Are you kidding me?”, you called out, feeling your anger pushing past any barrier within you that would usually hold you back ,”What was that for?” They didn’t answer, of course, they just kept on walking as you huffed annoyed and already fed up with them. “Who the fuck do they think they are”, you grumbled, glaring at them from behind as you grabbed your backpack and started to make your way down to the train tracks as well, though you very much disliked having to give in to Maggie and Daryl’s dangerous decision. “Don’t waste your energy on them, Sweetheart. Ain’t worth it”, Negan sighed, reaching out to give your hand a quick squeeze even though frustration was written over his face as well as you started to walk over the tracks, deeper into the depths of the metro.
The tunnels were even darker and murkier than the train stop, littered with belongings and morbidly sometimes even corpses of those who had searched for refuge in here during the early days of the downfall. Every little sound got amplified in the emptiness, every step and every brush of air, and so did the loud, metallic screeching sound that made you flinch up the moment it roared through the air. “What the hell was that?”, Gage asked, looking almost panicky around as Alden pointed up to the thick, rusty pipes that ran along the dirty, high walls. “Storm is pushing air through the pipes, making them groan. Nothing serious”, he said, glancing from the pipes over at Gage again while you could hear Negan sighing beside you. “You wanna know what that noise actually is? That is god’s way of telling us to turn around”, he said, loudly enough for the whole group to hear, and enough for Gabriel to turn around and give Negan a stern look. “I’m pretty sure he would have ran that past me first”, he said, only eliciting a small chuckle to fall from Negan’s lips as he pointed up to the wall. “Well, did the good lord direct your one eyeball up to this?”. he asked, gesturing towards the dark lines that trailed about two feet over your heads along the wall. “Waterline mark, means this tunnel floods on a regular basis”, Negan sighed, keeping his glance focused on Gabriel as he put some more pressure behind his next words,”Like when it rains” “If it bad down here its worse up there”, Daryl merely said, shrugging his shoulders as another, defeated sigh left Negan’s lips. “Man all I’m saying-” “This ain’t working”, Daryl spat, cutting Negan off as he stomped towards you, flashing his light up at Negan once more, just like before,”You trying to run shit.” Irritated you stared at him, startled by his complete overreaction once more. “He isn’t trying to run shit”, you spoke up, defending Negan as you made a step towards Daryl ,”He’s just trying to help.” Daryl’s glance only brushed over you as he clenched his jaw and turned his back on you again, leaving you with even more frustration building up within you than it already had back at the train stop, fueled by the feeling that these overreactions were mostly caused by Maggie’s presence. “Seriously?”, it slipped out of your lips, glancing from Daryl to Gabriel who you’ve hoped to still have some common sense left,”If that advice would’ve come from someone else in this group, you all would’ve taken it. Don’t you?” Nothing. ”If this thing floods we’re fucked”, you started up again, hoping to get at least someone else to agree with your well founded worries, but instead you just saw Daryl walking away, waving for the others to follow. “Keep moving”, he barked, patting his leg to animate his dog to follow him as well, as you threw Negan a worried look and could only see him shaking his head at the people who were walking in front of you, without saying anything more but with clearly as much frustration building up in him as you had. ”Let’s just hope we get out of this soon”, Negan sighed as you nodded, reluctantly following the group down the tracks, passing more unlucky, dead travelers and piles of clothes and trash until a disgusting, sharp smell distracted you from the belongings on the track’s sides. The putrefying smell you could point out from thousands. The smell of dead bodies. Lots of them. ”Fuck”, you mumbled to yourself as you raised your arm to cover your nose, trying to shield it as much as you could from the disgusting smell that suddenly started to match with the picture in front of you. Past the others, you could peak at the gruesome view that the tunnel showcased for you and look at the ground that was littered with dead bodies in plastic bags, laying tightly against one another and forming a path of death that extended so far into the tunnel that you couldn’t see it by merely shining your flashlights into the darkness. There were so many that some of them were stacked onto one another against the wall, and not only this view and the smell made you wanna turn around, the fact that there was no way to know when the tunnel stopped being a mass grave really just topped it off for you. Slowly, you watched Daryl moving towards one of the first bags on the ground, crouching down, testing whether whatever was in there was dead alive and just as he already began to pull away, the upper part of the bag began to rise up, though without the familiar walker groan. ”Shit”, you heard Daryl course as he dug his knife into the bag, one, two more times before he was sure that he’d actually hit the head before he cut the bag open, trying to get a better look at the walker inside. “Why didn’t he make any noise?”, you heard Roy ask, flashing his flashlight at the corpse as Gabriel stepped closer and bowed just enough over the walker to see what had happened to it. “Throat slashed so deep it almost severed his head”, the priest answered as you stepped a little closer, finally seeing what he was talking about. “Guys we’re going after did this?”, Gage asked, fear clearly sounding through his voice as Maggie shook her head and flashed her light over the other plastic bags with hundreds of more walkers that likely waited to be woken up. “No, these people were killed during the fall.” Negan shifted beside you, an uneasy breath leaving his lips as he pointed his crowbar at the piles. “All of them?” “What?”, Maggie asked, her eyes looking cold but irritated at Negan who didn’t budge. “We’re walking through a mass grave that could still be in use. So I am asking you, are you sure all of them were killed during the fall.” It got silent for a moment, all pairs of eyes were directed at the bags that started to move slightly as reaction to the quiet screeching of the pipes and the wind that gushed through the tunnel. For another moment, just a moment, you hoped that the group would listen to their common sense and see this as the last warning to turn around, but as Maggie spoke up again, just this hope vanished into thin air. “Take each one out, clear the path.” You only found yourself staring at her, baffled by her narrow-mindedness that was so severe it started to become nothing but pure stupidity, and you weren’t just gonna stand by anymore while she lead everyone, but most importantly Negan, into danger. ”We’ll waste more time killing them than we’d do if we just go back to the entrance and wait for the storm to pass”, you said, as calm as you could but with more than enough firmness behind your words to bring your point across,”It’s more dangerous on top of it.” ”We’re not stopping”, she snapped, glaring at you as you finally heard someone else speaking up as well. “Maggie, hold up”, Alden called out to her as Maggie started to stomp in between the corpses, starting to dig her knife into the skulls underneath the plastic. “I’m not stopping”, she snapped through tight teeth, waving her hand to order the rest to join, and they did except for Negan and you, and if they blindly wanted to follow her, they could, but you weren’t gonna let her order you around and lead you into nothing but stupid, risky danger. “You’re gonna start? Or do you and your asshole husband slow us more down than you already have?”, you suddenly heard the new guy, Frost spat, walking closer towards you with a snot-nosed look on his face that made the anger that had built up within you push further through to the surface. The audacity that these people had was unbelievable, and if they wanted to attack you now, oh hell, you weren’t gonna back down and follow the orders of a rude and pretentious newbie. “You should tone that arrogance of yours down”, you said dangerously calm, glaring at him as you stepped forwards with no intention to show any sign of weakness ,”You’re new, so act like it...you don’t get to call the shots around here, and you don’t get to treat me, nor Negan they way you do. So watch your mouth.” ”Or what?”, he grinned with a disgusting relish, tilting his head as you glared at him and slipped your hand down to your knife, not with the intention to actually use it, you weren’t dumb, but just to let it serve as a warning. ”Don’t try me”, you said, narrowing your eyes at him as he let out a chuckle. ”Oh that’s just adorable-” ”Back off. Right fucking now”, Negan cut him off loudly as he strutted towards you, a deadly glare in his eyes as the man in front of you made another step towards you, ”I dare you fucker, if you just try to lay your hands on her-” ”Frost”, Daryl called out, already standing in the middle of a pile of walker bags, finally allowing you to hope that there was still at least a tiny bit of loyalty to you left in this mess,”get your ass over here.” Your eyes swayed towards Daryl as Frost finally backed off, watching as your half brother climbed over the dead and moved towards you, coming closer while the look on his face seemed to grow softer compared to before. ”Just help, please”, he finally grumbled, lowly and quiet, as if he didn’t want the others to directly hear him while he only looked at you and not at Negan who was standing right beside you. ”You know this isn’t right”, you said, trying to persuade him even though the look on his face started to tell you that it was wasted energy. ”Please”, he started again, visibly uncomfortable as he stared at you through the still wet, brunette strands that hung into his face,”We can’t lose more time.” For a moment, you just stared at him, hearing the squelching sounds of knives digging into flesh in the distance before you started to realize that fighting this had no sense. They weren’t going to change their mind, and you didn’t want to stay stuck in here for longer than you had to. Testing you looked to your side at Negan , who seemed just as frustrated, but moreover defeated as you before you slowly started to nod. ”Alright”,you said, the word tasting toxic on your tongue,”But one more scare and I’ll turn around.” Nodding, Daryl didn’t say any more before he got back into the pile and you reached down to actually grab your knife now and give Negan one more glance before you headed into the mass grave and heard his voice sounding through to you. ”One more scare.” You’d smelled a lot of disgusting shit since the world had fallen to pieces, but this one made it into the top 10. Rotting blood was everywhere, its smell mixing with the nauseating gases that had built up in the plastic bags and which were released one by one each time someone dug their knife into a decaying skull. Pulling your knife out of exactly one of those skulls, you let out a shivering breath, trying to control yourself to not gag as you straightened your back to glance over and check on Negan for a second, who’d ended up on the other end of the group. He was pulling the end of his crowbar out of one of the dead, shaking some of the blood off before you leaned down to get the next walker, trying to just get this over with. ”Crap”, you cursed, leaning over the bag to level your knife with the corpse’s head, get it done with one swing before you suddenly heard Negan’s voice echoing loudly through the tunnel. “Kid!”, you heard him yell, shooting your glance up within the matter of milliseconds as you saw him sprinting towards Gage, pushing a large, bloated walker off of him and against the wall with a loud groan. From one moment to another your heart started racing, pumping adrenaline through your body as Negan let out a loud groan while he pushed the dead with his crowbar deeper into the wall, the metal digging into its bloated skin while it started to snap for him. ”Help him!”, you called out for the rest of the group who stood by far closer to your husband than you did, even though you already started to quickly climb over the dead, trying to not trip and fall onto them while Negan visibly started to struggle more. Breathing heavily you made your way over the dead, by now only focusing on Negan instead of the others who weren’t any damn help, before you finally reached him and could dig your knife into the rotting skull of the bloater. Within seconds, the dead slumped down, dropping to the ground as Negan breathed heavily through, trying to recover from the shock. ”What the fuck?”, you called out as you turned around, staring into the round of people who were merely looking back at you, without saying a thing. You couldn’t even wrap your head around what had just happened, could merely grasp the shock that was still stuck in you as Maggie started to move through the piles again, waving to keep going. “Pay attention so we don’t miss any more.” “Pay attention?”, Negan finally called out, snapping at her as a dangerous grin grew on his face and sarcasm mixed into his anger filled voice,”That’s it? That’s your new big plan? Tell me, Maggie, anything in particular we should be paying attention to?” “I’m real close to shoving a gag in your mouth”, you suddenly heard Alden say behind you, giving both of you an infuriating dumb smile as Negan let out a chuckle and grinned even wider as he looked down at the shorter man. “Well why don’t you get up on your little tippy toes and try?” Inside, your body couldn’t decide whether you should be infuriated about the shit that was going down in these moments, or proud of Negan’s sassiness that was finally coming out again, giving these assholes what they deserved, telling them what they needed to hear. “Cut it out”, you heard Daryl call from the other side, unnerved and annoyed,”Both of you.” “This kid almost died”, Negan yelled, pointing at Gage as Daryl’s eyes lit up with anger as he stepped closer. “Man you don’t give a shit about that kid!” “No she doesn’t give a shit”, Negan countered, still very much yelling as his eyes filled with a fury that had just waited to come out. They’d crossed a line, and now all the pent up anger and frustration were boxing their way out of him, and they wouldn’t stop until they’d seeped entirely out of his body. ”She has been playing dictator since we left. Not listening to me, not listening to him, not even listening to you”, Negan growled, pointing with his bloody crowbar at Daryl, “We don’t even know if this tunnel has a way out, whoever or whatever killed these rot bags could still be down here, has that thought crosses anyone’s mind?” Nothing, but no words needed to be spoken to answer the question. The looks on each and every face were enough to serve as confirmation for Negan. “Exactly, so then this is a death march and you are the goddamn pied piper”, he growled, glaring at Maggie before he threw his hands up, still angered but so done with this shit,”Now y’all wanna roll with that shit, that’s fine. Knock yourselves out but not me, not today. I’m out.” ”Me too”, you said as soon as his voice had hushed, only to hear Daryl call out your name, as if he was trying to remind you of your little conversation earlier. ”No, I told you, one more scare and I’ll go”,you repeated yourself, nodding towards Maggie,”This feels like she’s only holding onto going through this mess here because Negan’s the one arguing against it...and I’m not risking my life nor anyone else’s because of this petty shit, it’s ridiculous.” “I’m out too”, you suddenly heard behind you, as Gage stepped forward and earned a confused look from Alden. “What?” “He’s a dick but he makes sense”, he said, actually earning a small chuckle from Negan while another voice cut through the dark. “We shouldn’t have come down here. I’m out too”, Roy said, stepping away from the dead beside him as Daryl shook his head, visibly trying to keep the last bit of cool that he had left. “We’re not splitting up.” “Thats not up to you. Buddy”, Negan said, cooly as he earned another glare from Daryl while you saw Maggie’s minions surrounding her, the woman touching her arm to get her attention before you heard her voice echoing through the tunnel. “Just let him go. He’s supposed to be helping us, all he’s doing is slowing us down.” “Can’t.” “Why not?”, the big one of her minions asked, and while Agatha’s comment had already riled you up again, Maggie’s answer to Duncan’s question made that newly brewed anger combine with the frustration of the whole night, and push out of you. “We need him, he knows the city.” ”Oh awesome”, you called out, sarcastically and with enough venom in your voice to direct Maggie’s and any other glance directly towards you,”You and your people act like giant assholes to him and treat him like shit every chance you get but still want his help? You want him to get you out of here while you can’t even do the bare minimum of treating him like a human? Do you have any idea how pathetic and fucking embarrassing that is?” Your glare bored into each of them, so fucking tired of them and their bullshit while the arrogance on Maggie’s face didn’t budge a bit. ”We need to focus on getting through this here. Nothing el-” “Right, that’s the only reason why I’m here, right? Bein’ your goddamn tour guide. Can’t anyone of you read a damn map?...bullshit”, Negan cut her off, seething with anger by now as he stomped closer towards the group, keeping his voice oddly calm yet loud, and hell, that just made it more dangerous. ”I’ll tell you why she actually wants me to stay here, man-tits. She wants me to stay so I can die down here. Fuck, she’s gonna try to find a way, don’t you Maggie. When it can’t be done back home, it’s gotta happen here, far away from the prying eyes of Alexandria, in this jungle...or hell, she’s gonna try to get my wife killed down here to get back at me. An eye for an eye.” “You’re paranoid”, you immediately heard Gabriel say, the very thing he’d told you when you’d voiced your concerns about letting Negan go on this mission. “But I’m right”, Negan chuckled dryly as he gestured towards Maggie,”Hell you wanna put your lives in her hands, her head isn’t even in the game ‘cause I’m in her head, living rent free.” “So Maggie, me dying on your terms. It ain’t happening”, Negan said, glaring at her as his voice grew calmer, but all the more dangerous,”I won’t allow you to put my wife in danger, and fuck, I won’t let you drag me through the mud, filth and slime to put me down like a dog...” For a second he stopped, tension building up, so dense it felt like you could cut with your knife, before something slipped from Negan’s lips that even brought a wave of shock over you. “Like Glenn was.” The dull sound of a punch echoed through the air, hard and heavy as Daryl put as much force behind it as he could, and bashed Negan with a loud groan onto the tracks while your heart skipped and more shock and fear washed over you than Negan’s remark had. You couldn’t quite believe that he’d gone as far as bring Glenn into this, though you weren’t immensely surprised either. She’d pushed him endlessly, not just today, and this was the consequence of anger that had the chance to brew and grow for a whole while. Finding yourself rushing over the tracks towards Negan you could still feel your heart pumping in your chest, while your mind first skipped to the consequences that could follow after this punch and washed a whole new sense of fear over you. ”Fuck”, you breathed out as you reached Negan, ignoring Maggie who was glaring down at him, panting in anger as her voice echoed through the tunnel. “We’re down here because Hilltop is dead, we’re moving fast because our kids are starving, and I’m calling the shots because that’s how everyone voted.” Liar. She wasn’t moving fast because of the kids. Waiting for the storm to pass for another hour or two wouldn’t make a change, but losing people within these tunnels would. She wasn’t calling the shots because that’s how everyone voted. There had been no vote, she had only received the usual endorsement by her own people, but no one else, everyone else opted for the team option, as always. She was calling the shots because she had turned into an entitled bitch. “Bullshit”, it slipped from your lips, fueled by the frustration and fear that was cursing wildly through you. ”What was that?”, she spat, forcing your glance up at her as you heard the clicking sound of a gun, and the very moment your eyes darted up, your mouth ran dry as you saw the muzzle of her gun pointing to your head. Your breath hitched but something within you told you to not back down, urged by the feeling that she wouldn’t go as far as pull the trigger. She just wanted to spread fear, and while your body’s alarm sirens blasted through your brain and made you shiver coldly, that part of your mind urged you to keep going. ”You heard that right”, you said as firmly as you could, gulping thickly as you stared past the gun at her while you finally heard Daryl’s voice that brought a sense of relief over you, though your main concern was still focused on Negan. ”Maggie”, he said as you saw him reaching slowly for her arm, trying to direct it away from you and it worked, but merely because her fury eyes shot from you towards Negan, and so did her hand that held tightly onto the gun. “As for killing you”,she growled, pointing the muzzle of her gun closer at him while your heart started to pump harsher and faster than it had when that gun had been directed at you. ”It’s always on my mind. Not gonna tell you that you’re wrong about me because you aren’t, the woman who left 6 years ago is not the one standing over you right now. There’s a little bit of her left in me and that little bit is the only thing keeping you breathing”, she growled, still pointing the gun at his face, though you could only hope in these moments that this old part of hers, regardless of how small it was, truly kept her from moving her finger to the trigger. You wanted to jump at her, rip that gun out of her claws but you knew that your best chances were to wait for her to finish her little monologue. Anything else would only put Negan’s life more at risk “But I don’t know how long that’s gonna last”, she growled, still gripping her gun tightly as she glared down on him,”So keep pushing me Negan, please.” Just then she dropped the gun from his face, pushing it back into its holster before she turned around and stomped back into the corpses, followed by Daryl whose glance only brushed once more over you before you turned around and leaned down to Negan. “Shit”, you cursed, still feeling your heart pumping heavily in your chest, though it was starting to calm down a bit, as you looked over Negan’s face, reaching up to caress over his cheek and check on him. The squelching sounds of the knives echoed through the dark again, just as before, just as if this incident just now hadn’t happened while your eyes swayed over Negan and a thick sigh fell from your lips. ”You okay?”, you asked, watching as Negan slowly nodded as you brushed your thumb over his cheek, damning that it had come so far within this goddamn tunnel. You truthfully weren’t all too happy about Negan’s comment about Glenn, mostly because it deleted all the reasonable arguments that he’d brought prior to it from the others’ brains, but you could still understand him. She’d just pushed too far, and this was his way of pay back. ”You too?”, Negan asked, looking worried at you as he started to move back up on his feet and moved you along with him up, watching as you nodded. ”You shouldn’t have been pulled into this, I-”, Negan stopped, gulping thickly as you shook your head and reached out to grasp his arm to make sure he was looking at you. ”Don’t worry about me, I’m fine”, you said, giving him a soft squeeze, “We’re a team, so that type of shit just happens.” ”Hmm, it shouldn’t”, he rumbled, furrowing his brows as he looked down at you,”if someone pays for stuff I do or say, it’s me, not you.” ”None of us should have to pay for anything...I’m not saying I’m a fan of that remark, but shit, Negan I get it. I’m this close to exploding too. I can’t watch them try to push you around, and I don’t really wanna stay close to Maggie and her people longer than i have to...let’s just get this over with”, you sighed, glancing at the rest of the piles of corpses that littered the rest of the path, “I wanna get out of here as soon as possible.” With that, you got back to work. Reluctantly, but you did, knowing that fighting this would have no sense, just as turning around would. There was a feeling within you that told you that after what had happened, there was no guarantee that Maggie or any of her minions wouldn’t do something to you or Negan to get back at you in case you decided to turn your back on them and head out. Pissed off, you let your anger out on the dead and dug your knife into the heads of the dead, over and over again as you made your way down the tunnel, before you heard Negan’s voice rumble through the dark. ”Shit”, he sighed as you looked up and saw the light cone of his flashlight enlighten the end of the tunnel, for now, which wasn’t the next station, but a wagon that blocked the way entirely. And for a a moment, you innerly called out “Told you so” at the people around you, but instead of speaking it out you just shook your head with a sigh and watched as Alden bumped his flashlight against his thigh, trying to make it work again. “I need a battery swap”,he sighed, turning around to look over his shoulder and search for the person who carried a good bunch of your supplies,”Gage?” Nothing. “Gage?”, he called out again into the darkness, before he seemed to search for the other man who’d been carrying some of your stuff,”Roy?” Nothing. Again. “Has anyone seen them”, Cole asked, flashing his light past each of you only to receive head shakes. You hadn’t seen any of them for a while, truthfully, you hadn’t really paid attention. You’d just concentrated on the dead and getting through them as fast as you could to leave this damned tunnel behind yourself. “They took our supplies...ammo, clips, rations”, Gabriel pointed out with an uneasiness spreading through his voice that started to transfer to you and anyone else as you realized what that meant. “Thats just great, its this assholes fault he scared them off”, you heard Frost call out, pointing at Negan, pushing you to nearly call him out again for using Negan as the scapegoat, even though you would’ve never been stuck in this mess if his grand leader Maggie wouldn’t have pushed for it. But instead, you heard Daryl cutting him off as he raised his finger and hushed him. “Shh listen”, he said, barely audible as your focus shifted from Frost to the part of the tunnel that you’d come from, where low groans started to fill the air and echoed through to you, bringing a shiver down your back as you realized what kind of threat was rolling towards you. “C’mon, we’ll clear the rest, check the train”, Daryl called out waving at the first part of the group to follow him towards the dead while he pointed at the rest, including you and Negan, to move to the other end. He didn’t have to ask you twice, so instead of pushing yourself into the walkers who were stumbling over the dead plastic walkers on the group, you rushed behind Negan towards the wagon and watched him light his flashlight into the sides, hoping to find a way out only to let out a disappointed sigh. “Blocked”, Negan called out, just as Alden did the same for the other side and moved towards the shut door, trying to open it while you could hear the groans starting to come closer and louder, mixing with grunts of those who fought them and the squelching sounds of their weapons as the dug into the rotting skulls and bodies. “Take this”, Negan said, giving his crowbar to Alden who’d climbed partially up the ladder on the wagon’s back to get more access to the door, even though nothing seemed to work, not his hands, not the crowbar, and the dead’s groans kept coming closer and the rest of the group who’d been fighting them rushed towards you. “C’mon, up here”, Daryl called out as he pointed at the ladder, urging the first of the others to climb up as you looked behind you and could see the walkers coming closer, groaning and starting to stretch their arms out to you and the rest who was still stuck on the tracks. A shivering breath fell from your lips as you heard dog’s howl echo through the dark as he rushed in between your legs and towards the blocked side of the wagon, barking as he suddenly squeezed himself through a hole in the wall before anyone could hold him back. “Dog!”, Daryl called out, rushing after him as Maggie called his name, unable to hold him back as he pushed himself after his dog through the hole, barely making it before he suddenly vanished into the darkness and brought a new flash of fear over you. “Fuck”, you cursed, flashing your light towards the hole as you stepped closer towards it, feeling your heart pump up your chest as Gabriel grabbed your arm to hold you back. “He’s gonna find his way out, that’s Daryl”, he said, as calm as he possibly could right now as you started to nod, though nonetheless scared as you realized that there was no sense in trying to go after him while the dead just kept coming closer. Your eyes fell on Negan as Gabriel started to climb up the ladder, making room for you to be the next one to get up, leaving only your husband and Maggie to follow after you. “Go up, I’ll be right behind you. Don’t worry ‘bout me”, he said, reading the concern right off your face to leave him down there with Maggie, before you started to nod and grabbed the first metal rods of the ladder as soon as Gabriel made enough room for you to get up. Starting to climb up, you tried to be as fast and thorough as you could, trying to not miss a step in the hurry that the deadly threat put you in, and which only allowed you to turn around once you were up on the wagon and reached the open roof emergency exit along with Gabriel that would allow you to join the others who were already inside. Looking back, instead of seeing Negan right behind you, you saw nothing but darkness and heard the groans of the dead echoing through to you, bone chilling close as a wave of panic started to rush through your body, that only intensified as Gabriel grabbed your wrist and urged you to follow him inside. “C’mon, they’ll make it”, he called out to you, though you were frozen in fear before you finally saw Negan’s figure climbing up the end of the wagon and reaching its top, the one thing you needed to see before you allowed Gabriel to pull you inside along with him, into the next part of your deadly journey through the tunnels.
Don't know about you, but I am definetly one of the 70% that want Negan to stay 💙 #teamRedeemedNegan
