Clowns vs. Mime Questions Answered

@hectocotyli-everywhere In the ‘vanishing empire’ sense, yes. The Outer Mimes have a few Eldar traits, in that they’re a bunch of snobs and prudes. I guess the Orks are the closest analog to the Space Clowns, and the Star Magicians might be a bit more like the Tau in attitude.

@casualstarwhale Blue Clowns can smile and still remain blue, as well as expressing other positive emotions. Becoming a blue clown doesn’t change the genetics of the clown at all, it only signifies a change in temperament/outlook. Overwhelming joy isn’t a sure-fire ‘cure’ for being a Blue Clown, it takes a bit more than that.

Orbital Apes are self-aware enough to become full blown clowns & mimes. The informal term ‘jackanape’ is used to refer to both. Both have tendencies to imitate a subject, with the clown version often doing it while the subject is unaware, while the mime version often will do it directly in front of them, as if they were a mirror.

Self-awareness and brain functions that allow the species to engage in playing behavior is the benchmark. Basically any life-form (of any body plan) able to pass the Mirror Test will become a full Clown/Mime. Otherwise they will become a clown/mime beast. 

The conversion processes of both involve a complete genetic re-write, but I can see a disease causing the process to take longer. Depending on how much they thought about the disease they may become a clown/mime with routines that mimic being sick (fake sneezing, pulling an endless rope of tissues out of a box, etc.)

Clowns do have computers and a form of internet. It looks like it’s made out of playground/mcdonald’s play place plastic but they’re very advanced and beginning the process of miniaturization that would eventually lead to pocket computers/phones.

Clown memes would probably involve things like pie recipes that are rated by how aerodynamic the resulting pie is, pointing out black and white things like a skunk or a crosswalk and saying ‘Look, a mime!’, and chickens rushing to cross roads.

Control Organs plug themselves into outlets, or mobile batteries and generators for the most part in order to feed on electricity. The organic foods they do have are generally in liquid or capsule pill form.

@twentybrokenipodclassics Escape Angel tech involves a lot of moving parts, chains, and keys. They can survive in a vacuum, but they do employ space-ships, while are large white clouds with metal wings sticking out of it. The more powerful Angels are able to create portals and wormholes at a whim.

@megaskizzen Converting a plant is mostly ineffective if what you wanted was a clown/mime. You’d probably end up with a twisted rainbow tree with clown arms for branches, or small black and white flowers that turn towards you if you make a sound.

Fungi is a more mixed bag. You may end up with a life-form that has many clown/mime traits, and would possibly produce spores that infect non-mime/clowns to a mild degree, leading to traits similar to early stages of clown/mime infections, such as laughing fits, a desire for silence, etc.

If somehow microorganisms were to become converted, then they themselves would become vectors for conversion, as being infected with them would turn the subject into a full blown clown or mime, with the small possibility of the subject being under the control of the microorganisms.

Hm. Even assuming we're just talking "standard" breads with no fillings or the like (i.e. no focaccia, soboro, etc), I would have to put baguettes at the top. Sourdough is definitely up there, though.
