im nayeon was notorious for sleeping around and her ability to get any girl she wanted on her arm. you had never been a part of her orbit, just knowing of her until one unlucky day when you were assigned to work on a major project together.
you told her your ideas on the project, mapping out a few important angles that you thought would be successful. when she nodded and shared her ideas as well, you found yourself thinking that she wasn’t so bad, that maybe there was more to her than the playgirl persona attached to her name.
but it quickly went downhill after you exchanged numbers.
“do you want to come over to my apartment to work on the project? my roommate’s out of town this week,” she said with a wink, giving you a look that implied too much.
you immediately blushed, but quickly shook your head to refocus.
“nayeon, we won’t do any of… that while we’re partners,” you said, blushing again at the innuendo. “i want an A on this project, and im going to get it with or without you.”
she seemed a bit taken aback, as if your words had been a physical slap to her face. she had never been rejected before, especially when she made the first move. girls usually threw themselves left and right for her, practically fainting when she came up to talk to them. but you didn’t even seem to care, even when she had blatantly invited you to her bed.
she studied you as you highlighted important information on the project guidelines. from that moment on, she decided: she was going to win you over no matter how long it took. she bit back a smile as she looked at you again — your resistance only made the chase more interesting.
—
010-2010-0922: are you sure you don’t want to meet in my apartment? 😉
you: Meet me at the library at 3. Don’t forget to bring your notes.
nayeon laughed a little at your message. so formal. who even used periods while texting? she checked the time on her phone. 2:30 — she still had some time. she grinned to herself, at the brilliant idea.
—
“sorry im late!” nayeon whispered. she was slightly out of breath, the gray baseball cap on her head a little skewed from having taken two steps at a time on the staircase. “i didn’t know the library would be so far,” she panted, taking a seat next to you.
“it’s fine,” you said as you waved your hand, not even bothering to look at her. you didn’t really expect much anyways. you finished typing the last bullet point on your goals for today.
“here.”
nayeon held out a cup of coffee under your nose. you looked up at her, surprised at the somewhat thoughtful gesture.
“thanks,” you said hesitantly, taking the cup with both hands. “you didn’t poison it or anything right?” you blurted, suddenly feeling skeptical of her.
the serious look on your face made her burst out laughing, the sound echoing through the quiet space. she immediately covered her mouth as people turned to look at her, some even giving her dirty looks. nayeon held her hands up in innocence and mouthed a quiet sorry before turning her attention back to you.
“of course not, y/n. it’s from my favorite coffee shop,” she whispered proudly, as if the fact was somehow supposed to wow you. you gave her an unimpressed nod and brought the cup to your lips.
nayeon watched you silently as you took a sip, anticipating your reaction.
the coffee was… spectacular, unlike anything you were expecting. the notes of hazelnut elevated the familiar taste of coffee, and there was a subtle sweetness that added depth to the overall flavor. you took another sip, humming a little in satisfaction.
“wow, this is really good,” you remarked in genuine surprise. you hadn’t expected to like it so much.
“right?” nayeon grinned, feeling triumphant that you liked it. “it’s my usual — a hazelnut latte. can i have a sip?”
“o-oh,” you stammered. “sure.” she had been the one to buy the coffee anyways — technically it was hers.
she took the cup from your hands, fingers grazing yours as she did so. you expected her to lift the lid or at the very least wipe where you had drank from, but she brought the cup straight to her lips, looking you in the eye as she tipped the cup back. you blushed a little at the continued eye contact, forcing yourself to look away before it got any weirder.
she handed the cup back to you, licking her lips.
“i was going to get two cups, but the barista told me they only had enough hazelnut syrup for one cup,” she justified. “they’ve never run out of hazelnut syrup for the last two years but i guess there’s a first time for everything.”
you heard the double meaning behind her words but chose to ignore it.
“and you were late,” you added, staring at the cup in your hands. she laughed again, quieter this time.
“i guess that too.”
you waited for nayeon to pull her laptop and notes out. you took another quick sip when she was busy digging through her backpack, not wanting her to see for some reason you couldn’t explain. you tried not to think about how you were drinking out of the same place her lips had touched.
“let’s get started,” you said when she was finally ready.
—
nayeon was everything like you’d expected yet also not. her flirting never stopped, and there were a few bad jokes that almost made you laugh. but there was a lot more to her besides what you already knew.
you tried not to think too deeply about anything, about her, because any of it could’ve been an act, but you couldn’t deny that there was something frustratingly charismatic about her. you understood why girls chased after her even after she broke their hearts.
she was really smart, good at thinking analytically. she was also book smart. apparently, she read a lot in her free time, so much so that she had to start stuffing books under her roommate’s bed when her bookshelves started overflowing. you laughed a little at that, but immediately forced yourself to focus when you caught yourself.
after the brainstorming stage, most of the work in the library was done in silence, the two of you typing side by side and scrolling through various articles on the matter. she sometimes broke the silence to show you an important line in an article, touching your shoulder to get your attention. you flinched every time she did, and she just laughed at your reaction, finding it funny.
4 hours later, your coffee was long gone. your attempt at having good posture was abandoned and your head was spinning with buzzwords on the topic. even nayeon was slumped over in her chair, hair having been pulled into a messy bun somewhere around hour 3.
nayeon pushed back her chair, standing up to stretch. she lifted her arms above her head, her hoodie riding up to reveal just the sliver of skin. you quickly looked away, praying that she didn’t see. nayeon suddenly moved behind your chair and brought her hands to your shoulders.
“what are you doing?” you whispered to her. you tried to turn to look at her, but it was hard with her hands.
“relax,” she laughed. her hands started kneading the muscles in your shoulders, rubbing her thumb and using her hands to massage the knots. you were about to tell her it was fine, that you didn’t need her help, but it felt good. people paid good money to get massages, didn’t they?
you relaxed under her touch, leaning back further into your chair. you winced a little when she hit a particularly tense spot.
“you’re so tight,” nayeon grinned, voice dripping with implication. you rolled your eyes, but found yourself smiling anyway.
“do you just come up with these on the spot?” you asked her. she laughed at your question. you noticed that she laughed easily, lips seeming to lift into a smile at any and every little thing you said.
“maybe,” you heard her say. you felt something in your stomach sink, the small smile on your face dropping. “but it comes easiest with you.”
huh.
after what seemed like a good 7 minutes, nayeon sat back down. you stared at her as she lightly stretched her fingers.
“oh my god,” you gasped slightly. “your hands are humongous.”
her laughter was automatic. she held up her palm for you to see. in a moment of both curiosity and awe, you placed your hand against hers, measuring her size. your hand ended at least an inch before hers did.
“they’re really good for one thing,” she winked. you pushed the mental image out of your brain before you could think too much about it.
“im sure they’re very good at typing,” you muttered, ignoring the strange flip in your stomach. “okay. let’s work for just 30 more minutes and then we can call it a day.”
“it’s night,” she pointed out cheekily, gesturing towards the window. she was right — the sun had long ago set, the sky replaced with a dark blue color and a sprinkle of stars.
“we’ll call it a night at 8.”
the next 30 minutes seemed longer than the hours before it combined. maybe it was that you were tired or that you were experiencing a caffeine crash or the massage that nayeon had given you, but you found yourself struggling to focus. your brain kept wandering off from pathology to im nayeon, at her stupidly pretty smile and her explosive laugh that somehow made you want to laugh with her. you briefly glanced down at her fingers on the keyboard. they looked so—
“it’s 8!” nayeon cheered, interrupting you of your thoughts. about pathology. definitely about pathology.
you shook your head a little to force the unwanted thoughts out of your mind. you put your laptop into your backpack and started packing the rest of your supplies.
“you have great stamina,” nayeon teased as you slung your backpack over your shoulder. your cheeks tinged red at the comment. she just smiled at your silence, taking it as a silent win.
“man, im starving,” nayeon said as the two of you walked out of the library. the night air was cooler and quieter, carrying an inexplicable buzz that seemed to breathe life into the evening. there was a sense of anticipation hanging in the air, though you couldn’t quite tell what for. as if right on cue, you stomach growled on command. you immediately clutched your stomach, a little embarrassed. she burst out laughing.
“do you want to get dinner together? i’ll pay. it’s my treat.”
she sensed the hesitation in your response, the lingering lull in conversation.
“i mean—”
“come on, y/n. you have no excuse — we clearly haven’t had anything since 3pm,” she reasoned, trying to convince you.
you looked at her, at the way her brown eyes seemed to plead from under the ‘techno is my boyfriend’ hat. you had meant to ask her what that phrase meant earlier. your stomach growled again, as if the universe was trying to signal that dinner with nayeon was a good idea.
“..okay,” you said after pretending to think for a while. nayeon let out a whoop, immediately hooking her arms with you and dragging you away from the library. you let her lead you, mind swarming with thoughts. it’s just because you’re curious about her hat, you told yourself, justifying why in the world you said yes to her. and maybe you were curious about what type of books she liked to read.
under the glowing streetlights, with her arm still hooked around yours, you felt a wave of excitement wash over you. you were going to eat dinner with im nayeon.
—
one day, after a successful morning session of working on the project, you told nayeon that you’d walk her to her apartment. you justified it to both yourself and her that it was to talk more about the project, about how you should go about the presentation. nayeon had a grin on her face the entire time as you walked with her side-by-side, not buying your excuse one bit. and to be honest, you didn’t know if you quite believed yourself either.
after dinner with her that first day, you found yourself taking a liking to her. she had taken you to one of her favorite restaurants, where owners already knew her name and order by heart. you found yourself smiling as they asked her how her studying was going, who you were, and what you wanted to eat. they gave both you and nayeon an extra plate of meat, which you graciously accepted and devoured within a matter of minutes. the food, just like the hazelnut latte, fit your tastebuds perfectly. or maybe it was that nayeon had good taste in food.
after swallowing a spoonful of rice, you asked her, “do you bring all your girls here?” you found yourself anticipating her response, heart thrumming against your chest as you pretended like you weren’t all that interested in what she was about to say.
she seemed a little caught off guard by the question but immediately shook her head.
“no. this is my restaurant,” she laughed a little. “for obvious reasons,” she said, gesturing down towards the food. it was valid — the food was irresistibly delicious.
“and plus,” she added, turning a little serious. she looked you directly in the eye as she said the next part. “it’d be awkward if i brought them here. because what if they keep coming back for the delicious food and i have to keep seeing them?”
you laughed at her logic.
over the course of dinner, you conversed back and forth with her. she asked you about your thoughts on vegetables. she claimed that she never ate them, and that the day you saw her eating them was the day she had been kidnapped and a doppelganger was in her place. you asked her about her hat, about what the strange phrase meant. apparently, she didn’t know what it was either, but it looked cool enough for her to want to buy it.
even after you learned that ‘techno is my boyfriend’ had no significant meaning whatsoever, you wanted to know more about her. you found yourself thinking about her a lot, about the mole underneath her left eyebrow or her frequent habit of sticking her tongue out. you wondered what it would be like to be on the receiving end of her— nope.
she was undoubtedly fun to be around, most of the time being the highlight of your day. but you tried your best not to let it show too much, not wanting to give her the satisfaction of thinking that she had gotten yet another girl to fall for her so easily.
as you neared her apartment door, nayeon started digging through her bag for the keys. it was taking longer than what you deemed was normal. after what seemed like a few minutes had passed, she looked up at you from her bag with a sheepish grin.
“i think i left my keys inside.”
you laughed a little at the situation. nayeon fished for her phone, mumbling something about having to call her roommate.
then—
“i think my phone’s dead.” she hit the screen a few times, pressing the lock button on the side. the phone stayed turned off, not a hint of light coming from the screen.
she giggled nervously, looking towards you again. “thank god you’re here, y/n, or else i would’ve had to walk all the way back to find a payphone or something. can i use your phone real quick to text my roommate?”
“sure.” you unlocked your phone and opened the messaging app before handing it to her.
she typed something on the screen, and you heard the familiar whoosh of a message was sent. she was about to hand you your phone back when she noticed something.
“hey! why isn’t my number saved?” nayeon pouted, turning your phone towards you so that you could see. the digits of her number stared back at you.
you felt heat rush up to your cheeks. you’d never saved her number because you didn’t want to get attached. it would be horribly cliche, falling for the playgirl. but obviously, you couldn’t tell her that, so you opted for obliviousness.
“i-i don’t know. i guess i just forgot to.”
nayeon didn’t really buy your lie, but it didn’t matter. she grinned. “i’ll do it for you then.”
when she returned your phone, her contact read ‘nayeonieee 🩵😙💋💞.’ you huffed a laugh at the ridiculous amount of emojis. you put your phone back into your pocket. you didn’t have the heart to change it back.
“is your roommate coming?”
nayeon sighed a little sadly. “she’s in class right now, but she said she can let me in at 4.”
“it’s 2 right now,” you pointed out. she nodded, grimacing.
“2 hours,” you hummed, the cogs in your brain turning. “i don’t have anything to do right now. do you want to go back to the library and continue working?” you teased. you didn’t really feel like making a slideshow right now, especially not after already having worked for 3 hours, but you didn’t know how else you could spend more time with her without the excuse of the project.
nayeon immediately shook her head, laughing. “you and your crazy stamina,” she grinned, looking at you with crinkled eyes. “i have a better idea. let’s go get coffee!”
—
nayeonieee 🩵😙💋💞: hey i think the library is closed today :(
you quickly checked google maps. she was right — the library closed on the first sunday of each month, and today just conveniently happened to be that day.
nayeonieee 🩵😙💋💞: do you wanna come over to my apartment? >:)
you found yourself laughing at her message. normally, you would have declined, saying a cafe of some sort was sufficient. but today was the final stretch of working on the project — it was due in just two days. your dorm was also too tiny to be comfortable, especially compared to her apartment. with your roommate, nayeon, and yourself, you imagined the space would feel crowded fast.
you: ok. i’ll be over in 25
nayeon felt a smile tug at her lips. all lowercase and just one period in sight.
—
nayeon greeted you at the front door with a wave. she had on a pair of thick-rimmed glasses, and she was wearing an oversized hoodie that swallowed her frame.
“you wear glasses?” you asked in greeting. they looked cute on her, somehow making her look even more like a bunny.
“oh yeah.” nayeon scrunched her nose. “im practically blind without them.”
you hummed in response, taking a look around your surroundings. you had never been inside her apartment before, having only seen the door from the outside or caught brief glimpses whenever nayeon ran back in after forgetting something.
“wow, you do have a lot of books,” you laughed, staring at the stack of books on the coffee table.
“just wait until you see my room,” she winked. after you had gotten situated, dropping off your backpack on the couch, she pointed towards the kitchen.
“you can take some snacks if you want.”
there were two grocery bags on the kitchen counter, overflowing with chips and bags of candy.
“my roommate bought them,” nayeon said as she brought her laptop from her room to the living area. you immediately stopped your digging.
“are you sure i can eat these?” you gave her a look.
“momo’ll never know,” nayeon grinned mischievously, bringing a finger to her lips as if she was indulging you in a secret. you raised your brow at her in disbelief. nayeon immediately broke into laughter at your expression.
“im joking, y/n. we bought them together.” nayeon walked over to you, taking a bag of gummy bears for herself. “you’re fun to tease,” she said cheekily, poking your arm.
you rolled your eyes, smiling before you could stop yourself. you grabbed a small bag of potato chips before sitting next to her in the living room.
“is your roommate still gone?’ you asked as you opened your laptop, double-clicking on the shared google doc of notes.
nayeon smirked, leaning in close to you. “yeah. i kicked her out so that we could have some alone time.”
you blushed at her words, huffing slightly in annoyance. your face burned hotter when she broke out laughing.
“im kidding,” she smiled, looking at you. “she’s a dance major so she travels a lot. she’s currently in europe for some competition thing.” then, she turned serious. “honestly, i think she’s going to be famous.”
that made you laugh. you shook your head, trying to recollect yourself. “we should get started.”
—
you were taking a break, leaning onto the couch as you watched her type. she paused a little to think, swiping her nose with her finger. that was another habit of hers — absentmindedly touching her nose whenever she was thinking. when she did it for the second time, you commented on it.
“you pick your nose a lot.”
nayeon turned to you with a gasp. “i do not!”
you started giggling. “yes you do! you did it twice in the span of 2 minutes,” you teased.
she rolled her eyes, pushing you lightly with her hands.
“oh come on. there’s a difference between picking and touching your nose, y/n,” nayeon explained, rambling defensively. you listened to her go on and on, smiling at how expressive she was being. when she finally finished, looking to you for your response, you just grinned.
“sure, nayeon. whatever you say.”
she stuck her tongue out at you, her eyes folded into half-moons from smiling. you laughed again.
—
you and nayeon had finally finished the project, typing the last few words on the presentation slide. you groaned as you closed your computer, exhaustion and sleep washing over you at once. the clock on your phone read 3 am. you were going to need one hell of a coffee tomorrow.
“good work today,” you said tiredly to nayeon, giving her a pat on the shoulder. you started to pack your bag until you realized you still had to go home.
it was a 20 minute walk from her apartment to your dorm.
you groaned again, sinking into the couch.
“what’s wrong?” nayeon asked, sitting next to you. she leaned into the mattress, looking at you with her pretty, brown eyes.
“it takes 20 minutes to get back to my dorm,” you pouted. you didn’t feel like doing anything, especially not walking across campus in the dark.
“why don’t you just stay over?”
you looked at her. “can i? i mean, are you okay with it?” as soon as the words left your lips, you realized that she’d probably had dozens of girls over. cold jealousy spread over you like ice. you quickly pushed the thought away — you didn’t want to think about that right now.
she nodded. she pushed a stray strand of hair away from your face.
“of course. you should. it’s really late.”
she dragged her eyes down your form. you were wearing jeans and a baby tee — not the most comfortable for sleeping. she stood up from next to you and walked towards her room. “i’ll get you spare clothes to wear and a toothbrush.”
she returned with a stack of neatly folded clothes, a brand new toothbrush on top of the pile.
“i think they should fit,” she said, running her eyes over you again. you caught her in the act, your cheeks turning pink. she led you to the bathroom, saying that you could change there.
the clothes smelled faintly of nayeon, like roses with a hint of vanilla. the sweatpants were slightly long, but not long enough that you were afraid of tripping. you breathed in deeply, trying to memorize her scent. when you realized what you were doing, you immediately stopped. you squeezed toothpaste on your toothbrush and quickly brushed your teeth, trying to distract yourself from what you had just been doing.
nayeon gave you a once over when you exited the restroom — you looked good in her clothes.
“i can take the couch,” you told her, smoothing the edges of your — no her — shirt.
“no you won’t. you’re my guest, y/n. you can sleep in my bed.”
you didn’t miss the implication or the way one end of her lips tugged upwards.
“in your bed?” you repeated, giving her an incredulous look.
“in my bed without me. i’ll take the couch,” nayeon laughed. you realized that she already had one pillow under her arm.
“the couch looks uncomfortable to sleep in,” you mumbled, trying to figure out if there was an arrangement that could work.
“wait, nayeon. what if i sleep in your roommates’ bed? you said she’s in europe, right?”
nayeon immediately blurted no, the words coming out a little too quickly. she didn’t want you sleeping in another girl’s bed, even if the other girl happened to be her roommate. it made her feel weird to imagine you under another person’s sheets. when you shot her a questioning look, she explained herself.
“uh— momo doesn’t like it when other people touch her bed,” nayeon smiled weakly. “my bed’s better anyways.”
you sighed. you felt bad about taking her bed, kicking her onto the couch in her own apartment. you peeked your head inside nayeon’s room. her bed looked big, way bigger than your twin sized one back at the dorm. when you returned back to the living room, nayeon was already lying down on the couch, preparing to sleep.
“come on, nayeon,” you called to her. “we can just share your bed. it looks big.”
nayeon looked at you from the couch, a small smile on her lips. her eyes twinkled with a hint of mischief. “are you finally giving in to me?” she teased.
you rolled your eyes. “or forget it. good night na—”
“wait wait, im coming. the couch feels like im sleeping on a rock.”
—
you climbed into her bed, putting the blanket over you. the sheets were soft against your skin. the rose vanilla smell seemed to be amplified, enveloping your senses. she got on the bed through the opposite side, sliding under the covers.
the bed you once thought was large felt a lot smaller now. though you weren’t directly touching her, you could feel her body heat radiating off of her. you turned over so that you were facing the other direction.
her bed was so warm and comfortable under you. your body finally relaxed, sleep slowly lulling over you after a long day of studying and working. from next to you, you heard nayeon shuffle slightly.
“goodnight, y/n,” she whispered.
“goodnight, nayeon,” you mumbled. you quickly drifted off to sleep, breathing slowing as you fell asleep in her bed, wearing her clothes and under her blanket.
it was one of the best sleep of your life.
—
you both received an A on the project.
your professor was so amazed with the presentation that he gave a standing ovation at the end. the hard work had paid off. even though the project and late-night preparations were a thing of the past, you and nayeon still exchanged messages. she asked you to hang out almost every day, and you gladly accepted.
you enjoyed her presence, so much so that you wanted to be with her 24/7. she brightened your day with her stupid inappropriate jokes. she was thoughtful, always buying you coffee and food to the point you were convinced she was rich. (plus, who in college was able to afford an apartment like hers?)
when nayeon invited you to momo’s party, you accepted immediately. you searched your closet for clothes to wear and eventually settled on a tight, black mini-dress. you curled your hair and put on jewelry, even applying a bit more makeup than you did usually. you told yourself that you weren’t dressing up for her, but a part of you knew deep down that you wanted to impress her.
when you reached her apartment, the door was already open. music played in the background and there was already a crowd, some drinking, some dancing. you searched for nayeon, not knowing anyone here besides her.
you stood on your tiptoes, trying to scan her face from above when you bumped into someone. you almost fell, stumbling as you lost your balance, but the girl you bumped into caught you. her arms were strong, wrapping around you as she helped you stand up properly.
“sorry,” you said to her, face reddening at your clumsiness. she laughed it off, her hand still on your waist. she was gorgeous — with her plush, pink lips and round eyes, she looked like a model. her arms were toned, and if you looked hard enough, you could see the outline of her abs through her dress.
“don’t worry about it,” she smiled.
wow.
“im momo,” she said, finally letting go of you to extend her arm. momo?
“you’re nayeon’s roommate right?”
she nodded. her brows furrowed, trying to remember if you were someone she’d met before. she thought she would’ve remembered such a pretty girl like you.
“im y/n,” you shook her hand with a smile. “i did a group project with nayeon. i came over here once, but i think you were in europe.”
“ohhh.” she nodded, the pieces clicking in her head. “so you’re y/n. i can’t believe nayeon’s never mentioned how pretty you are.”
you were about to reply when you felt an arm wrap around your waist. nayeon.
“there you are, y/n. ive been searching for you,” nayeon said. when you didn’t reply immediately, she followed your line of sight. “oh! i see you’ve meet momo.”
“i can’t believe you’re introducing me to her just now, unnie,” momo teased. “she’s gorgeous.” momo ran her eyes up and down your figure, smiling to herself as if she liked what she was seeing.
you felt your cheeks flush.
“thank you,” you said shyly to the compliment. nayeon’s grip on your waist tightened. the smile on her lips was forced, not quite reaching her eyes.
“momo, i think sana was looking for you earlier,” nayeon said, her tone almost flat. momo hummed distractedly, still obviously staring at you.
“it was nice to meet you, y/n,” momo said finally, smiling again. she tentatively touched your arm as goodbye. “i’ll see you around.” and then she left, hips swinging as she went off to find whoever sana was.
“nayeon,” you turned around to her when momo was out of sight, your eyes sparkling. “she’s so pretty! i can’t believe im meeting her just now!”
nayeon chuckled dryly. “so im told,” she muttered under her breath, rolling her eyes quickly so that you wouldn’t see.
she took a look at you, not having been able to check you out while you were busy making heart eyes at momo.
your hair was curled in loose waves around your face, lip gloss painted on your lips in a way that made them look even more kissable. your dress was tight and tiny, hugging your curves in a way that seemed painted on — it left little to the imagination. she flicked her eyes back to your face, not bothering to hide that she had been checking you out.
“you look good,” she whispered, eyes dropping to your lips again. you pushed her lightly, feeling embarrassed.
“thanks, nayeon. you don’t look bad yourself,” you teased. you were lying through your teeth — she looked beautiful. ethereal. she always did, but something about the dim lighting in the apartment made you want to surrender to whatever game the two of you were playing and give in to to her.
she was wearing a low cut dress that hugged her hips. she had straightened her hair, making her look undeniably sexy. your eyes dropped to her cleavage for half a millisecond, heat rushing to your face as you stared. you swallowed hard, looking away.
“i think i need a drink.”
she led you to the bar area with her hand on the small of your back.
—
‘a drink’ turned into 3. then 3 quickly turned into 4 and 5 and—
“slow down,” nayeon took the shot glass from your hands, taking it away from you. “you look like you’re trying to get drunk.”
you giggled, trying to get the drink back from her. “i thinkkk i already am.”
nayeon sighed.
“no more drinking.” she pushed the shot glass far from your reach. you still tried, nonetheless. you reached for the drink but ended up almost falling out of your seat, stumbling into nayeon’s lap. you giggled as you pushed yourself off of her, saying sorry.
“you’re so drunk,” nayeon said under her breath, holding your waist to help you balance.
“nayeonnn,” you slurred, grabbing her wrist. “let’s go dance! i wanna dance.”
“are you sure you can dance? you can barely stand up.”
you smiled up at her. “iss okayy. you’ll catch meee.”
nayeon didn’t let go of your waist as you swayed to the beat, afraid that you would trip and break something.
“nayeonn, dance with me,” you said over the music.
“i already am,” she replied. she couldn’t help but smile at the carefree expression on your face. you looked so happy, dancing with your hands in the air. your cheeks were tinged red from the alcohol, making you look more alive.
she stayed with you for the next three songs, holding onto you. the fourth song that played was a slow song. all the couples gathered together, swaying intimately under the mellow music.
“nayeonnn, dance,” you told her, trying to wrap your arms around her neck when she subtly tried to back away.
she looked at you, gaze steady. “are you sure?”
“dancee.”
she grabbed your waist with both hands, swaying to you with the beat.
“your roommate is very pretty,” you giggled to her. she was close enough now that you didn’t have to fight to be heard over the music. nayeon pursed her lips. apparently, you were still thinking about momo.
“i guess.”
you giggled again, gazing into your favorite pair of brown eyes. “you’re prettier, though.”
nayeon didn’t say anything, but something in her stomach did a flip.
“did you knowww,” you slurred. you were staring directly at her lips. “you stick your— your tongue out a lot. it’s soo dangerous.”
nayeon’s head tilted in confusion, heart pounding against her chest.
“dangerous?” she repeated. you nodded, grinning.
“it’s a terrible habit, nayeon. it’s soooo sexy,” you laughed, hiccuping slightly. “it— it makes me dizzy whenever you doo it.” you brushed your thumb against her lips, holding your breath a little as you did so.
blood rushed to nayeon’s ears. she could barely hear the music now, the only sound in the room being the sound of you hiccuping and the pounding of her heart.
“you’re so pretty,” you whispered. she looked like a goddess in front of you. you leaned in close to her, close enough that you could smell the rose vanilla perfume from her skin.
“y/n, what are you—”
your eyes fluttered shut as you gently crashed your lips against hers. her lips were warm and soft, like everything you’d imagined but a hundred times better. nayeon was still against you for just a second until she kissed you back, sliding her tongue inside your mouth with a renewed sense of fervor. she pulled you closer to her as she kissed you like she was starving, pulling your body flush against hers.
you moaned a little when her tongue brushed against yours. she tasted like something sweet and addicting. you never wanted to stop.
you pulled back when your lungs burned for air. you gasped, face feeling warm and legs shaky. you panted, eyes still fixated on her lips. they were a little swollen now.
you leaned close to her again, wanting to taste more of her, but nayeon pushed you back gently.
“nayeonn,” you whined, trying to get close to her again. “you— you don’t want to kiss me?”
nayeon leaned into your ear, lips brushing against your skin.
“i do. you have no idea how much.”
“then why—”
“you’re drunk,” she said gently, as if you were something beautiful and fragile. her warm breath sent your body shuddering.
“but i want you,” you pouted sadly, frustrated that she wasn’t letting you. you tried again, but she didn’t let you budge.
“me too, darling. but not like this.”
—
you woke up the next day with a raging headache. you groaned as the harsh sunlight hit your face. everything was too bright and sunny when the pressure in your head was killing you.
you opened your eyes slowly, bringing a hand up to your face to shield your eyes.
this wasn’t your bed. it was nayeon’s, the familiar bedsheets staring at you. you immediately felt sober as you took in your surroundings. your dress was folded neatly on the side of the bed. you quickly looked down — you were in the same pair of pajamas that nayeon had lended you that night. your brows furrowed in confusion. why did you wake up in her bed? did something happen last night? did you sleep with—
“morning, sleepyhead.”
nayeon walked in with a cup of orange juice.
“for your hangover,” she said, setting it down on the nightstand.
“nayeon,” you whispered, groaning a little from your headache. “did something happen last night?”
you held your breath waiting for her to reply. she sat down on the bed, quietly studying you. then, she took a deep breath.
“nothing happened. i promise. you were really drunk last night. we danced to maybe four or five songs. after that, you told me you were sleepy so i brought you to my bed. i didn’t think you could go home in your state. i gave you my clothes and told you to change because that dress didn’t look too comfortable. i helped you brush your teeth and remove your makeup and then you fell asleep. i did sleep next to you, but nothing like that. we didn’t do anything — i swear on my life.”
you took all of it in, staring at her as she explained. she was unfairly pretty, especially when it was early morning.
“okay,” you nodded. “i believe you.”
you took a quick sip of the orange juice she’d brought — your headache was killing you — before you continued.
“what time is it right now?”
she glanced at her phone. “8:30.”
you hummed. you took another sip of the juice. it was helping to alleviate the pain. slightly.
she sat with you in silence as you finished the glass. you stood up slowly from the bed.
“i think i’ll go home and shower,” you told her, grabbing your dress. she nodded. that was probably best.
“y/n,” nayeon called hesitantly as you grabbed your heels from the floor. you turned to look at her, in her thick-framed glasses and sleep tousled hair.
“yeah?”
“are you— are you busy today?”
you racked your brain, trying to remember your schedule. yesterday was saturday, which meant today was sunday. sunday. you had nothing on sundays.
“no. i don’t have anything. today’s sunday, right?”
she nodded. “if you want, only if you want, do you want to go on a walk with me tonight? i’ll pick you up. i— i have something to tell you. but we can also do it later if you’re too tired or something. yesterday was a lot.”
you thought for a second. “if it’s tonight, it should be fine. i’ll probably go home and take a nap so that i’ll actually have energy.” you gave her a small smile. nayeon smiled back, nodding.
she led you to the front door, making sure that you didn’t forget anything.
“oh,” you said, looking down at her clothes. “i’ll return these to you soon. maybe tonight.”
she shook her head. “it’s okay. you can keep them. they look better on you anyway.”
you flashed her a gracious smile. as you said goodbye to nayeon, you heard momo say something.
“bye, y/n! come back again, please!”
you laughed. you told her bye at the same time that nayeon told her to shut up.
—
nayeon showed up at your door at 7 pm, wearing a black leather jacket and jeans.
“i didn’t know we were supposed to dress up,” you teased, suddenly feeling underdressed in your baggy tee and sweatpants. she quickly waved it off.
“you look fine, y/n.”
—
“sooo, are you going to tell me?” you asked her. tonight was a nice night. the full moon hung high in the sky, casting a soft glow over everything as a gentle breeze brushed against your skin.
“patience,” nayeon teased. “i’ll tell you when we get there.”
she was taking you to han gang, one of her favorite spots in the entire world. she had noticed that she shared a lot of her favorites with you — her favorite coffee, restaurant, snacks, places. she couldn’t figure out why she felt like she wanted to give you the world or share with you all of her most cherished things.
when the two of you finally reached han gang, you looked up at her, curiosity getting the best of you. you continued walking side-by-side with her, under the city lights and the bright moon. she took a deep breath and started talking.
“at first, i thought it was because you didn’t like me. i thought that maybe i found you intriguing because you didn’t give in to me easily. i— i usually lose interest once people give in because it doesn’t feel as thrilling after people like me back. but with you, the feeling never fades. if anything, it only seems to grow the longer i get to know you.”
she paused, looking at the city lights for a second before continuing.
“yesterday, when we were dancing, you— you kissed me. i kissed you back. i know i shouldn’t have — i pushed you back when you tried to kiss me again — but i think ive liked you for a long time. and when you looked up at me like that, i couldn’t help but let you.”
she looked at you, trying to gauge your reaction. you nodded slightly for her to continue.
“i can’t stop replaying the kiss in my mind. usually, with other girls, one kiss or one night in bed is enough. i never find myself craving them again. but you just won’t leave my mind. but the thing is, it’s not just kissing or the sex. i want more with you. i want to do stupidly boring things like going grocery shopping while holding your hand. i want to know everything there is about you, like the color of your toothbrush or your favorite song.”
she bit her lip, butterflies attacking her stomach. her heart was beating so fast that she thought she would collapse right there on the sidewalk.
“what im trying to say is that i think this is what love is. i think im in love with you. and i was wondering— can i be your girlfriend?”
you’re silent next to her. somewhere in the city, a car honked. the gentle wind rustled through the trees, and the old streetlight buzzed as it flickered above your heads.
disappointment bloomed inside nayeon. oh. maybe you didn’t feel the same way. she should’ve asked you first how you felt, or dumped all of this slower onto you. she was about to take it all back, say it was a not-so-funny joke when you suddenly cup her face.
you stare into the pretty brown eyes that made you laugh countless times, who bought you coffee and snacks and made you feel like you were the most important person in the world. your gaze dropped to her mouth.
you crashed your lips onto hers with such force that nayeon stumbled slightly. her arms instinctively wrapped around your frame as she melted into the kiss, your lips and tongues moving in sync.
you kissed her until you ran out of oxygen, until your heart was beating so fast and your muscles felt like jelly.
“im not drunk this time,” you panted when you broke apart. “and i love you too, nayeon. even though i didn’t at first. you make me feel like im the only person in the world that matters and you’re so likable that it’s almost annoying,” you grinned, not letting go of her waist.
a smile broke on nayeon’s face. she felt so happy like she could explode, like she had done something tremendously right and the universe was gifting her for it.
this felt like the love she’d read as a child in fairytales.
—
“you ramble when you’re drunk,” nayeon said. her hand was clasped around yours as you walked underneath the darkening night sky. you laughed at what she said.
“i do?”
she grinned, pulling you closer to her. “a lot. you also get really touchy.”
your brows furrowed. “touchy? what does that mean?”
—
you panted as you caught your breath, body shuddering in the aftermath of your orgasm. nayeon trailed kisses down your thigh before laying down next to you, licking her lips with a cheeky grin.
“your fingers are really, really long,” you breathed. you pressed your body closer to hers. “and your tongue— oh my god.”
nayeon laughed, happiness attacking her.
“i love you,” she mumbled into your shoulder, hooking a leg on top of your body.
you smiled. “i love you too, im nayeon.”
—
bonus!
you cried out as she curled her fingers upwards, your vision going black as you reached your climax. nayeon pulled her sticky fingers out of you, bringing it to her lips. she moaned at the taste, sucking her fingers clean of your juices.
“nayeon,” you whimpered, body going limp against the bed. your breathing was heavy, and a thin layer of sweat covered your body. you lay on top of the sheets, just catching your breath and letting nayeon trail light kisses over you.
“im going to get water,” you whispered to her. she nodded, watching you get up from the bed. you grabbed her oversized t-shirt from the floor and pulled it over your head. nayeon stared at your bare legs as you walked out her room.
you made your way to the kitchen and poured a glass of water with the pitcher, bringing it up to your lips and drinking greedily.
“you guys are so loud,” momo said, coming out of her room. she stared at you, in nayeon’s shirt and nothing more.
you blushed, your entire face reddening. you ducked your head and mumbled an apology. you had forgotten that momo was home. you were sure you remembered her presence before nayeon pushed you to the bed, some hazy memory of her telling you to be quiet because momo was home, but that became quickly forgotten when she slipped a long finger inside you.
momo grinned at your embarrassment, finding it cute.
“it’s okay. i’ll just have to buy stronger noise-canceling headphones,” she shrugged. “or you could make it up to me by…” momo trailed off, a mischievous smirk on her lips.
“can i join you guys?” she joked, loud enough so that nayeon could hear.
“oh hell no,” nayeon called from her room. “y/n, come back quickly before she tries to steal you from me.”

you were always roommates with jeongyeon.
maybe it was because the both of you prioritized cleanliness and organization or more simply that your lifestyles fit well. she never had to nag you about picking your dirty clothes from the floor and you never had to complain to her about keeping to her side of the room. rooming with jeongyeon was effortlessly comfortable and familiar.
nayeon unnie slept in a slightly larger room with sana and momo. it wasn’t for the reasons why you and jeongyeon worked well together, but more that the three were close, finding the fun in the most mundane things like a bag of gummy bears sana had hidden from her roommates under her pillow.
you had never gotten to room with nayeon unnie, this fact bringing a quiet storm of disappointment and jealousy within you. you loved all your members equally, each of them different in a way you liked, but nayeon unnie held a special place in your heart. you would be lying if you didn’t say you had the tiniest crush on her, at the way she seemed to laugh at everything and how she always took care of you, as if it was some sort of unspoken thing of nature. you found yourself staring at her a little too much during dance practice, only snapping out of your trance when chaeyoung gave you an all too knowing smile.
“you’re being too obvious,” she whispered in your ear, giggling when your cheeks flushed red. you tried to protest, but the words seemed to have died in your throat.
“it’s okay, though,” chaeyoung said, suddenly turning serious. “i won’t tell anyone.”
you nodded in thanks, knowing that you could trust her. but while you were lost in your thoughts, mind swirling about nayeon unnie and chaeyoung and the count for the choreography, you missed the glance that nayeon shot your way, curiosity getting the best of her at what you and chaeyoung had been whispering about.
—
late at night, you could hear three of them giggling to each other, the sound of their distinct laughs making its way through the walls and into your room.
“they’re being loud again,” jeongyeon sighed, but her complaint was more fond than annoyed. you gave a small smile in reply, though it didn’t quite reach your eyes. the feeling of sticky jealousy only seemed to multiply as you heard nayeon’s voice through the walls.
you sighed, turning over to your side. you buried your face into your pillow, trying to will that sleep would come fast so you could leave your icky thoughts behind.
—
sometime after that dance practice and the late night where nayeon, momo, sana didn’t seem to sleep, something changed.
you had overslept one morning, being late to practice. jeongyeon had already woken you up, and you had mumbled sleepily that you were fully awake, even sitting up in your bed as per request. but the moment she stepped out of the room and into the kitchen to grab a coffee, your head fell back onto your pillow, drifting back into sleep.
you woke up 5 minutes into practice. you had 20 missed calls, from both your members and the company. a text from jeongyeon read: i thought you already woke up! i thought you went to practice early.
your phone buzzed again — an incoming call from nayeon.
“hello? y/n, where are you?” she spoke, voice full of worry.
“i think i overslept,” you mumbled sleepily. “i’ll be there in 15 minutes.”
and since then, nayeon seemed to make it her own priority to make sure you woke up on time each morning, making sure you weren’t late to practices.
—
“wake up, sleepyhead.”
you cracked your eyes open, confused as to where the voice was coming from. then, you felt it, a body pressed close to your form. nayeon had squeezed herself onto your twin bed, your bodies touching as she adjusted herself slightly in a more comfortable position.
“unnie?” you whispered. your heart started thrumming, and you suddenly grew afraid that she could feel the way your heart was about to rip out of your chest at her proximity.
“im going to wake you up like this every day,” she laughed softly. “so that you aren’t late again.”
everyday? you bit back your smile, trying not to make it too obvious that you liked what she was saying.
“okay, unnie.”
she gently forced you to sit up, ignoring your protests as she made you get off the bed. she stayed with you until actually got out of your room, until you stumbled into the bathroom with half-lidded eyes.
“good morning, y/n,” she laughed, touching your back tenderly before leaving.
—
it had quickly become routine. at 6:30 sharp, nayeon woke from her own bed, stretching her arms above her bed before making her way into your room.
she tiptoed across, careful not to be too noisy, and climbed into your tiny bed. she had to push you slightly towards the wall so that she could fit with you, but you didn’t mind.
you were always barely awake when she whispered for you to wake up, voice raspy with sleep as you mumbled incoherent things. nayeon found it adorable. you leaned into her touch as she pressed against you, resting your head against the crook of her neck.
“is it time to wake up?” you asked drowsily. a small smile lifted on nayeon’s lips before she could stop herself.
“yeah,” she whispered back. she laughed a little at the frustrated whine you gave her in defiance.
“just five more minutes,” you mumbled into her neck. you slung an arm across her stomach in your half-asleep state, keeping her from getting up.
“but we have practice today,” nayeon murmured. she glanced at you as much as she could without fully moving her head, not wanting to move you off her shoulder. she was almost certain that you’d fallen back asleep, judging by the way your breathing slowed.
but to her surprise, you mumbled something into her neck, the words barely coherent.
“just five more minutes, unnie.”
nayeon sighed gently. she squinted at the analog clock that sat on your desk. it read 6:33. then she looked back down at you, at how peaceful you looked beside her. her resolve melted instantly.
“sure, okay. just five.”
a small smile tugged at your lips as you drifted back to sleep, warmth settling comfortably in your chest.
—
the next day, nayeon climbed into your bed, barely saying anything as she leaned her head against your shoulder. nayeon mumbled something that you didn’t quite catch, and the both of you drifted back to sleep in the early hours of morning, the sun just barely peeking through the curtains.
when you opened your eyes, your clock read 9 am.
“unnie!” you shot up. “it’s 9!”
nayeon laughed sleepily, putting her arm around your waist to push you back onto the bed. she didn’t seem worried at all, eyes still closed.
“it’s saturday. there’s no practice today.”
you blinked at her, still trying to process the words.
“wait what? then why did you come here?”
nayeon finally opened her eyes, a small mischievous smile spreading across her face. “because i wanted to sleep with you.”
your face immediately warmed at the innuendo.
“unnie!”
she giggled, pulling the blanket over the both of you again.
“five more minutes,” she whispered.
