On the edge of town, there was a grand staircase that led down into the great field that surrounded Castle Town and spread through the lands of Hyrule. She sat quietly under a tree, legs curled up under the relatively simple skirt that she wore. It had been quite some time since she had donned this "disguise" and entered into Castle Town, and even longer since she had dared to venture beyond the confines of its stone walls.
Truth be told, most of the shop-folk knew who she was, but were polite enough to indulge her as she escaped for a few hours. The ones who didn't, raised nary an eyebrow at the young woman, eyes aged far beyond her years, the lack of finery more than shielding her from suspicion. The children just recognized her as someone to play with, and their parents nodded respectfully as she passed. There were people milling about out here, too, make-shift stalls selling food and wares to the commuters returning from their work elsewhere in the kingdom. None of them batted at eye at the pensive young woman resting beneath the tree.
With a small sigh, Zelda closed her book and leaned back against the tree, closing her eyes for a spell. She'd been gone too long. Surely, any moment now, one of the guards would receive word that she was missing and would realize that the strangely familiar young woman that had passed him sometime ago was, indeed, Princess Zelda. It wouldn't be long, so she decided to enjoy the time while she had it.
