When Midna struck Zant (For the purposes of stuff with @twilibred) she didn’t kill him, but did leave him for dead. He was brought back to survivable health and then locked away in a maximum security prison.
Zant has no idea that there was a consequence to what happened between himself and Midna...
With that said, any Zants want to do some angst where she confronts him for the first time in his cell?
