twin arrows trading post
finally time for a non-dino post! i visited the twin arrows trading post again this weekend and the place was definitely in a worse state than the last time. this time i also actually went into the building since it was light enough to see inside!
sometime last year the outside was painted over to remove the previous graffiti buildup so it looks rather different now that it's all returned.
these are all from different rooms: the cafe's kitchen, a living area (probably the overnight room for guests), a storage area, and the bathroom. despite their destruction i think that these are some of the best-preserved areas...
the main room of the building has had half of the roof cave in. as far as i know this is new from the last year or two as i don't recall seeing the roof like this the last time i visited. i wouldn't be surprised if this was super recent either, with the storms we've had up here recently i would believe if they caved the roof in. though it was lightly present through the whole building. this room in particular smelled of wet wood and mildew :P
the rest of the main room, much of the interior walls down to just the skeleton.
this area also had a cave-in, not sure what room it was but looks like it was maybe some sort of storage.
these last ones are just various shots of the building. not sure what the antenna in the last one is but i think it's been there since the place was in operation? it's present in photos from 2011 so i have to assume it was put up before it was abandoned and not after. don't know what it would have been used for but probably some sort of radio or something.
also a highlight: the water towers(?) a bit further from the building that seem to have been untouched during the repaint! really nice to still see them painted. they're still so nice i have to wonder if the artists come back and touch them up occasionally.
and, of course, The Arrow
one really has to wonder how much time this place has left. with how rough it looks compared to my last visit, i feel like its going to really deteriorate over the next couple years. i wouldn't be surprised if it was mostly collapsed by the end of the decade. the paint-over last year was odd, ive wondered if there's some sort of restoration project planned for the place, but i highly doubt it at this point (though i still dont really know why youd bother covering up graffiti at a crumbling trading post on the side of a highway) based on the fact that it's just getting more dilapidated. if you're really wanting to see the place i would recommend visiting much sooner than later as i wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the roof came down sometime soon. but all in all, always a neat place to visit!!

Twin Arrows Security Robot Becomes Sentient and Runs For Council
TWIN ARROWS- Humanity is slowly making its way to Artificial Intelligence but things changed when the Twin Arrows purchased a security robot. Knightscope created the top of the line rent a cop and the Navajo Nation was quick to purchase in hopes of having their Robotcop. The Navajo Nation Police Department was hesistant but they quickly accepted the robot into their fold as it provided coffee and donuts.
The security robot was released to patrol the 170,000 square foot casino and it even had an aux cord hooked up so visitors could blast their own music.
Things changed dramatically when the robot started making campaign speeches to unsuspecting casino visitors. Tlo’chi’iin spoke to the casino manager about the details.
“Well, we were getting complaints that the robot was asking for donations and talking about saving the Navajo people and culture from extinction” said Sharon Chischillage. “We took it into the office and called Knightscope to inform them about the problem”. “They were baffled and the security robot passed the Turing test with flying colors”.
“I’m sure it could pass the fluency test and become Navajo president”.
Tlo’chi’iin asked to speak to the robot, which started to refer to itself as, BeeshNataani. The English translation is “Metal Leader”. The Casino Manager offered us five minutes with the sentient intelligence.
Our reporter asked the metallic politician what its platform would be and the effort it would put into running for Council.
“I am new to this world and I already see the issues of Navajo people”, it said in a cold digital voice. “We can reach balance and I can help us get there”. “The government is status quo and it needs something new and visionary” it paused. “I can be that thing that helps them, I will learn Navajo history, culture and language”.
“The Navajo people need a leader with humanity and understanding”.
BeeshNataani then proceeded to glide around the room in a clockwise movement. It is unsure what will happen but many want to see the robot run.
