decided to re-edit one of my earliest photos from september 2023. ill be honest, i dont think ive photographed a bird like this even two years later ! this is one of my favorite pictures ive taken ever, but my previous editing job was sub-par in my opinion. it was a while ago and i didnt really know what i was doing but now i kinda do !
on oct 21, Comet Lemmon appeared the brightest it'll look during its passage near the earth !! i was able to get some fun pictures of it along with some surprise shooting stars :)
finally time for a non-dino post! i visited the twin arrows trading post again this weekend and the place was definitely in a worse state than the last time. this time i also actually went into the building since it was light enough to see inside!
sometime last year the outside was painted over to remove the previous graffiti buildup so it looks rather different now that it's all returned.
these are all from different rooms: the cafe's kitchen, a living area (probably the overnight room for guests), a storage area, and the bathroom. despite their destruction i think that these are some of the best-preserved areas...
the main room of the building has had half of the roof cave in. as far as i know this is new from the last year or two as i don't recall seeing the roof like this the last time i visited. i wouldn't be surprised if this was super recent either, with the storms we've had up here recently i would believe if they caved the roof in. though it was lightly present through the whole building. this room in particular smelled of wet wood and mildew :P
the rest of the main room, much of the interior walls down to just the skeleton.
this area also had a cave-in, not sure what room it was but looks like it was maybe some sort of storage.
these last ones are just various shots of the building. not sure what the antenna in the last one is but i think it's been there since the place was in operation? it's present in photos from 2011 so i have to assume it was put up before it was abandoned and not after. don't know what it would have been used for but probably some sort of radio or something.
also a highlight: the water towers(?) a bit further from the building that seem to have been untouched during the repaint! really nice to still see them painted. they're still so nice i have to wonder if the artists come back and touch them up occasionally.
and, of course, The Arrow
one really has to wonder how much time this place has left. with how rough it looks compared to my last visit, i feel like its going to really deteriorate over the next couple years. i wouldn't be surprised if it was mostly collapsed by the end of the decade. the paint-over last year was odd, ive wondered if there's some sort of restoration project planned for the place, but i highly doubt it at this point (though i still dont really know why youd bother covering up graffiti at a crumbling trading post on the side of a highway) based on the fact that it's just getting more dilapidated. if you're really wanting to see the place i would recommend visiting much sooner than later as i wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the roof came down sometime soon. but all in all, always a neat place to visit!!
also the scary green man statue from the last time was found dead and dismembered on the floor inside
a bit of something new! i went out this weekend to take photos in the growing storm, but it was a little too late to get good visibility in the photos. nevertheless, i decided to try getting this guy in the dark and i think it came out good.
definitely will be doing more nighttime photography once the sky is consistently clear (been pretty stormy lately). a dream shot of mine is a dino with a beautiful starry night sky in the background.... one day.....
