“How to make a short documentary movie“

 MOVIE THEME:

“Family tree of advice“

ABSTRACT:

I want to create a PBL project “Realization of short documentary movies“ for students and their parents. Movie theme will be “Family tree of advice“. Students will be divided into several groups and they will make a  movie with students from other school. First step will be for parents. They will created a tree of advice (like a classic family tree) for their children. Students will have to shoot them with the mobile phone and bring the material to the school. Then they will mix their materials with other students in the group (in one group will be students from several school) and in movie montage they will have to create a one video. They will use different web platforms like padlet or tumblr, skype or edmodo and different programs for montage like adobe premiere pro or final cut and itc.

 GOALS for parents:

 1.       Created a “tree of advice“ for their child (my student)

2.       Explain a “tree of advice“ in front of camera

3.       Comunicated with their child about the movie theme

 GOALS for students:

1.       Shoot their parents with a mobile pfone ( be careful with frame composition)

2.        Comunicated with their parents about the movie theme

3.       Comunicated with other student about  how they will combined material for the movie

4.        Created a movie in the adobe premiere pro (or in same diferrent program for movie montage)

5.       Share a video on you tube

6.       Present their movie in a school meeting in front their parents and theachers

  ICT activity:

 Students will use padlet or tumblr, skype and edmodo to comunicated with other students about the movie and that will be a big part of project beacuse they will have to combine the material to create a video. Also they will use a youtube platform to share their video.  

   WORK PROCESS

 Students will follow step by step our plan of realization video. Final product will be a short documentary video named “Family tree of advice“. They will comunicated with other student all the time using the web platforms.

 LANGUAGES

 We will use only english because we will collaborate with other school from different country. Also we will communicated in croatian when we will talk about project in our classroom.

 EXPECTED RESULTS

  I expect that students will gain a lot of new media knowledge through this process and experience practicing communication, presentation and computer skills. Also I think that they will be encouraged to be a part of project like this in the future and that is improtant for they personal growht and development.

My project: Writing a collaborative story

Participants age: 11-13

Number of partners: 1-4

Areas: Languages, IT, Art

Material: PC with internet connection, Google Hangouts. If partners use Gsuite For Education, we can use classroom, if they don’t we will use Adobe Connect, paint, paper, colours, drawing program, camera.

Languages: English

Abstract: In the first part of the project, partners will introduce themselves creating and editing a class video using the Voki avatars.

Then, pupils will write a collaborative horror/sci-fi story, one country starts the story and the other countries continue it. Then one partner illustrates the other partners’ story.

Pupils will then draw and choose the cover of the book and advertise it with a poster.

Goals:

Cooperate in order to write a story

Write in proper English

Draw scenes from partners’ parts of the story

EXPECTED RESULTS: a cooperative e-book

WORK PROCESS:

Pupils will create and edit their presentation video using voki avatars and then share it with the partners in Google Classroom or

Pupils are told about the theme and purpose of the project, then they create a timeline with activities, tasks and deadlines. The timeline will be displayed in the classroom as a remainder of what needs to be done.

The classes meet on Hangouts or Adobe Connect and introduce themselves, ask questions etc.

Pupils will write a collaborative horror/sci-fi story, one country starts the story and the other countries continue it. Then one partner will draw scenes from the other partners’ story.

Each class draw a cover for the e-book, then share it with the partners. Every student will then vote his/her favourite cover and the most voted will be the official cover of the book.

All material will be collected an made into an e-book

Each class will draw a poster to advertise the book in the school and in town.

ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION:

Pupils will fill a form about their opinion on the activities.

Teachers will evaluate:

Social and civic competence: Conscious activation of personal resources, attitudes, knowledge

Use of English language

Use of a different language: drawing

FOLLOW UP:

While working, pupils will take pictures, short videos etc. to create a short presentation of the different phases of the project. The video will be presented during the open day.

The e-book will be downloadable from the school website and will be advertised with posters the students drew.

What needs or areas of improvement and learning have I detected in my teaching? What projects have I found that might help me?

I need to find new ways to make students join lessons more and use language in a natural way. 

I am planning to give some task in which students will cooperate and make presentation about the topic they choose.

Yes, I was included the local community in one video project. We created three short video about modern society and media. We focused on children problem with comunication on internet.

I think that technology can help us to create a student-driven enviroment because technology give us different tools to comunicated with student in an equal manner.With the help of technology we simply achieve interaction during teaching and in that way we reduce frontal teaching.   #twinMOOC

My favorite warm up activity is building a paper tower because that activity develops constructive dialogue and nonverbal communication.  #twinMOOC

I must say I don't feel any pitfalls, maybe that is because I teaching a that kind of subject where I can easly implementing PBL methody. I teaching movie, video and animation. Also I have suportt of my headmaster and other teachers.    #twinMOOC

I always try to organized my teaching in the way that give students space for express themselfs and to prove themselfs in small tasks where they have autonomy and full resposibility.  #twinMOOC

What is your technique for splitting students into groups for a project: do you assign students to groups, are they mixed abilities or homogenous groups? Tell us what worked best! #twinMOOC

While I teaching I often divide students into groups. I dont have a clever technique. Sometimes I ask them with who and way they want to work, sometimes I just randomly mix them, sometimes I tried to select students on some of criteria with the aim to make a effective group.   #twinMOOC

How do you assess PBL? What are the types of assessment common in your teaching environment? Are you free to assess in any way you choose or do you have to follow a strict testing system? #twinMOOC

When I divided student into groups for PBL sometimes I use formative assesment like think-pair-share, Exit tickets or progress assessment tool.  #twinMOOC
