Song Review: Twisted Pine - “Peaches En Regalia” (Live)
Thanks to Twisted Pine, we now know bluegrass belongs in Zappa music.
Performing in Vermont in 2024, the quintet transformed Frank Zappa’s psycho-jazz instrumental “Peaches En Regalia” into mountain music where flute tandems with mandolin and fiddle and handles the melody while double bass and acoustic guitar hold down the rhythm.
The at-first-glance-unnatural twist is in practice 100-percent natural. These “Peaches” are thus testament not only to Twisted Pine’s arranging and executing chops but also to the uncommon flexibility of Zappa’s compositions.
