He is running out of both moral arguments and quips around Felicia. They've done this dance for years, and it's been a tired tradition since the first re-try at... whatever they once had.

"Y'know, if inflation gets any worse, seeing a movie is gonna cost like five cat's eye jewels." Is such small chat even a vibe to her anymore? Never mind that Peter is nevertheless knowledgeable of jewelry.

"I know nothing about shiny things. Still wrapping my brain around what carrots have to do with them."

+ No amount of FAST THINKING was helping her figure out a way OUT of this one . Not when it was CLEAR enough that she had been CAUGHT . RUSHING back out the window and into the NEW YORK CITY night was an option, and she genuinely CONSIDERED it . The only thing stopping her was knowing that she had to come home at SOME POINT . And knowing Mayday's parents, it would only take ONE phone-call to have the actual SPIDER-GIRL out looking for her .

Why was she CONSTANTLY put in situations where there was absolutely NO WAY for her to win ? This wasn't FAIR !

" ... I'm ... COSPLAYING ! " The answer sprang out of her from the MINUTE it entered her mind . This would TOTALLY be the thing to save her butt ! " I was going out onto the FIRE-ESCAPE to pose and take some photos ! "

+ Mary Jane WISHED that she could steal some of that CONFIDENCE from her counter-part at the moment . The night hadn't gone PERFECT , by any means, but she could at least RECOGNIZE the potential was still there. There at least weren't people SHOOTING at her just yet . That was a gigantic PLUS . For the MOMENT, at least .

That could change all too QUICKLY , and she KNEW it .

+ The comeback had simply BLURTED out , even before she’d realized the IMPLICATIONS of what she’d been saying . As much as she had felt as ALIVE as she’d ever felt when she’d been able to help Mayday , the DANGER hadn’t been too far from her own thoughts . She didn’t want to be just another FACE in the hallway amongst her classmates , or looked at just Coach Thompson’s DAUGHTER . When she was partnering with Spider-Girl as the second SCARLET SPIDER ? She was anything but NORMAL .

“ I wasn’t very GOOD at it anyway , Mom. You saw what happened last time I tried to help . Mayday had to come in and RESCUE me . “

Times were tough when you worked at a diner, only making just enough to survive for another day. Apparently running around in an old uniform could only get you that much. Sighing, Cindy yearned for the day where she would escape the chains that held her back and actually get to make something out of her life. Her dreams involved cameras being pointed towards her in some big city, not filling mustard bottles in some ratty diner in Rowena where nothing ever happened.

Wiping the disk, the sound of a bell chiming announced that there was a new customer. A platinum-haired woman, who wasn’t someone Cindy was familiar with. Though, it didn’t seem as if the woman intended to sit somewhere, rather that perhaps she was searching for something.  ❝ Anything I can help you with, doll? You look a little lost. ❞

Dammit. She always did catch onto his tension in their reunions. It had been nearly a year since they last saw each other. Felicia could smell his loneliness, taking into account how long they've known each other. "I mean, that is to say, I'm still at the last dump you saw me in. Biding my time and paycheck for something better on the horizon." Spoken like that kitchenette hasn't been the same without felonious Felicia catting through the fire escape facing window.

"I was gonna turn in after our catch-up, but, fancy a swing race through town to my crib? Not to get in the way of any other affairs you have, of course."

+ Truthfully, Mayday hated to say that she was getting USED to the lack of ENCOURAGEMENT at times from her parents . They’d tried everything to keep her from being Spider-Girl , but her own STUBBORNESS had finally worn them down just enough to TOLERATE it . With everything she’d learned about the circumstances surrounding her birth, she couldn’t BLAME either of them for being protective of her. But with the POWERS she’d inherited, the last thing she was going to do was sit on the SIDELINES . 

“ I think he’s just still WORRIED about me like I’m that five year old who had no fear . “ She answered, leaning back against the back of her chair . It still struck her as one of those weird COINCIDENCES that Felicity had sought her out, given the connection their parents had shared . The more things CHANGED, the more they seemed to stay the SAME . “ What was he like back then ? Before ... me ? “
