@twistedtangledfate liked for a starter with Melody (for Ariel)
The sea was calling to her, as it so often did. The way the sunlight made the water sparkle, this was one of the few places in the palace where Melody could get a clear view of the water without the wall obstructing it.
Leaning on the balcony railing she sighed a little.
"Isn't this view amazing, Mom?"

The victor life hadn't really been what he had expected of it. Well.. he hadn't expected to become one in the first place. But suddenly everything was one big adjustment. His leg the first part of it all. Then came the new home, the new family dynamic, a strange status he'd obtained within the District. Capitol trips. New friends. Or supposed to be friends. Outside of the Games he wondered what was the point of it all. Why was he called to the Capitol again? Dressed for an event and set in a room with people he barely knew. A warning followed -- one that sounded more like a threat -- and he was released into the wild.
Peeta smiled, polite as ever, joked here and there as part of his natural charm, but the unease lingered. Comply? With what? How was this any different from the previous events? And if not, why a warning only just now? Had he done something wrong?
He found himself shuffling towards a somewhat familiar face; an anchor within the crowd. Of course he could've asked Finnick, but his boastful laugh made him feel like he would share his questions with the class.
"Hey," he smiled, sincere kindness on his features and his head gave a nod in greeting. "Sorry to be so blunt but.. something weird happened--" Peeta paused, looked around to see if no one was paying attention to them and then lowered his voice. "--before I came here someone told me to comply? I'm not sure what that's about. Did they say that to you as well?"
Was it possible to break something by rolling your eyes? Eye? One eye. Mol only had one to roll in the first place. If it was possible, Mol was certain she’d managed it as the pompy wizard traveling with the savior of the grove stood before her. Something something devils don’t deal fair something else, all tailed with the overwhelming air of condescension.
Clearly he thought she was just some stupid kid. Well, she might’ve been technically a kid, but she was FAR from stupid. Okay, maybe he hadn’t said stupid, but the way he was treating her…was this how he treated everyone?? How did he have any friends? WERE THEY HIS FRIENDS???? Enough was enough.
“Gonna stop ya right there, big man. I ain’t accepted nothin’ yet, but if I do or if I don’t ain’t your decision. It’s mine. And I’m gonna be the one that makes it. Understand?”

@twistedtangledfate dreamed: "I'm sorry you had to grow up so fast." (From Anastasia?)
Ella offered her a small smile before she reached across the table to grasp her hand. "I'm sorry we could not have been friends sooner." It wasn't Anastasia's fault Lady Tremaine was an awful person. All they could do now was heal from it.
@twistedtangledfate liked for a starter (Padmé/Shmi)
Padmé remembered Shmi from her first time on Tatooine. She remembered her as a kind and generous woman despite her circumstances, and the young Senator was glad Anakin had been able to save her from the Tusken raiders. She had the feeling he would not have been able to get over losing her. No matter how much the Jedi preached that one had to sever themself from those connections.
Her lips curved into a smile as she saw the older woman awake. "I've brought you something to drink and eat," Padmé set the tray down on the small table beside Shmi. "How are you feeling?"

There was a worry to her words. Where Chloe Decker was usually surefooted and unwavering, she found herself completely out of her element here. Had she died during that gun fight?
"Is this..." she looked to the being before her, taking note of the intricate hints of apples that adorned his clothing. Even dead, she still held to her detective's mind of noticing the little things.
"How did I end up here?"
“ 🔥 “ (modern perceptions of Demeter. Go for it)
send 🔥 for an unpopular opinion !
the thing about modern interpretations that grinds my gears the most is that they often only focus on one of demeter's myths and still manage to make her a side character - a villain, even - in a story that's supposed to be about her. the myth is not about persephone. it's not about hades. its about demeter. its about a mother's grief and her rage at losing her beloved daughter.
its such a raw and real depiction of what it feels like to lose a child. demeter's willingness and ability to destroy the earth to bring back her daughter is SO powerful. its moving, and its beautiful, and its even more remarkable because its one of the few myths that centers a woman in the story and portrays her emotion in a way that's meant to be relatable. understandable, even. women aren't often offered that luxury in myth.
and yet, in every modern interpretation of demeter, she is no longer the central figure. the story becomes about hades and persephone instead of about demeter and her daughter. it becomes a romance, not a tragedy. and in her own myth, demeter is shoved to the side as unimportant - a hindrance even. she is written as abusive. she's written as controlling. she's written as selfish. could you imagine saying those things to a mother today who lost her child?
and its even more insulting because persephone "escaping" her mother and becoming a baddie queen of the underworld is supposed to take this myth and make it about "girl power", but in doing so, makes a hero of the man and a monster of the mother and its so insulting to me. demeter is the embodiment of female power and rage and grief, and tears the world apart for her baby girl, and that still wasn't enough for people.
its not that hades and persephone don't also deserve to have their story told, but when it comes at the expense of demeter, it feels like such a slap in the face. she is incredible, and she is powerful, and she deserves more respect put on her name.
