✲ You and Javi were thick as thieves all throughout school. You were those two best friends who stuck together no matter what came at you. Even when you harbored a major crush on Javi, you still remained his partner in crime. There wasn’t anything separating you two.
✲ The two of you went on to college together, even. Working in the same field, nonetheless. You meet Kate, Raveen, Addy, and Jeb in environmental science class. All of you worked together on a grand project that Kate had proposed. And the time came for you all to go out in the field and conduct the research.
✲ It goes horribly wrong very quickly. You ended up injured just like Kate, except you have a nasty scar on your arm instead. You, Javi, and Kate are the only ones who survived the ordeal, and after that, communication slowly comes to an end between the three of you.
✲ You lose touch with Javi when he leaves for the military. The storm changed him, and he wasn’t really the same after. Neither were you, but you still deeply cared about Javi and hated to see him go. You tried sending letters and even calling but to no avail.
✲ 5 years have passed, and you’re now an environmental science professor specializing in tornadic weather. You work closely with meteorologists for research purposes. You have written several essays, books, and even textbooks on weather phenomena.
✲ It’s a normal day when you get a call from an unknown number. Usually, you don’t answer them, but this time something inside you said you should. Much to your surprise, it’s Javi.
✲ “Hello?” you answer after accepting the call. “It’s so nice to hear your voice again.” a familiar voice says. “Javi Rivera? Is that you?” you immediately close your laptop, sitting in your office chair, nearly frozen in place.
✲ Javi explains that the company he works for is trying to find a way to stop tornadoes or at least learn how they work, and they need your help. He tries to say you’re one of the best in the field. “Just one of the best, huh? Who else did you call before me?” “I’ll be honest, we called Kate. But she didn’t want anything to do with it.”
✲ You agree to meet with Javi to discuss the project further. The day comes for you to see Javi again, and you’re beyond nervous. But when you arrive at the cafe, and he’s sitting there, all that nervousness fades away and is replaced by those old feelings of butterflies.
✲ After talking about the company’s ideas, you veer off-topic. You notice Javi staring at you with an expression you can’t quite put your finger on. “What is it?” you ask. “Nothing, I just didn’t expect you to be so much more beautiful now.” Javi smiles as a tinge of red dusts his cheeks at the confession. “Well, if it helps, I didn’t expect you to be more handsome, but I’ve always thought you were.”
✲ A deep conversation leads to both of you finding out you had liked each other all those years and even now. A considerable amount of time has passed, and you realize you must head home for work early the next morning. Javi walks you outside to hail a taxi, but before you climb inside the backseat, he grabs your face and kisses you. It’s sudden, and you aren’t expecting it, but you kiss back. It isn’t until the taxi driver honks his horn that you pull away.
✲ “Let me know what you think, okay?” Javi says. “About you or chasing again?” you ask, a playful smile on your lips. “Both.”
✲ Chasing with Javi knowing how you feel about each other is a little more nerve-wracking than it probably would have been if you hadn’t known. Especially since you feel the need to be in the truck with him every time you go somewhere or worry incessantly every time you go to put out the panels during a tornado. You’re afraid something is going to happen again.
✲ But it all fades away eventually. You succeed in the project and are able to create an early-warning system and have enough data to possibly get rid of tornadoes all together. You and Javi decide to go on a proper date after everything settles.
✲ It’s a simple picnic out in the fields of Oklahoma, but you don’t mind. It’s where everything started with you and Javi, anyway. You thought you’d never come back here, yet here you are. “Can I say something?” Javi asks suddenly after a few minutes of silence. He stares at the clear sky for a moment before turning to you, “I’m sorry I left you behind here. And I’m sorry I never reached out while in the military. I just didn’t know when I’d be coming home or if I’d be coming home, actually.” “I understand, Javi. You don’t have to apologize.” “I kept your letters. I got them all, and I still have them.”
✲ Javi is taken by surprise when you lean in and return the kiss he gave you weeks ago back in the city. But he kisses back, of course. “I’m glad you kept them, Javi. I just wish you would have at least responded to one,” you chuckle.
✲ The two of you end up working side-by-side on the project to take down tornadoes once and for all. Your relationship blossoms as you get to know each other all over again. Javi treats you like royalty, always running to open the car door for you, drawing your baths, and cooking you dinner. He always ensures you’re taken care of and makes up for lost time.
✲ Oh, there’s a lot of making up, for sure. Sometimes, you have to sneak into a storage closet at work to compensate. It’s for all those times you and Javi thought about doing something about your attraction yet never did. But there’s the rest of your lives now.

Boone is a single alarm man but it's hit or miss if he actually wakes up to it. 5-8 hours and a very milky latte. I also feel like he flails in his sleep and eventually ends up in a family guy death pose
Tyler is a single alarm man who wakes up with the alarm no matter what. 7 hours max, orange juice with no pulp (he'll drink it with pulp but prefers it smooth) or water
Dani has 20 alarms 5-10 minutes apart each. Queen of 4-7 hours and any available energy drink
Dexter needs no alarms, his general circadian rhythm is just That Good. Even 8-9 hours and some French pressed coffee made by him for him and anyone else who asks for some
Lily has no alarms and cannot sleep if the sun is up or lights are on. 6 hours, 7 on a good day. Ginger water with an immune support tablet
After three to five days of waking at the same time, Kate will keep waking up that early until that schedule is changed in one direction or another. Very even eight hours unless something happens, water or just normal coffee
Javier, thanks to the military, wakes as early as he needs to to be able to get ready, no matter how early that is. Before the military he slept until someone else woke him up, alarms be damned. Water or whatever energy supplement is on hand, dry or wet, with a preference for water
Tyler has a good relationship with his parents, but they live in Texas, so he only really sees them on holidays and a couple of times during the summer. He has three older sisters but only gets to see his oldest sister regularly since she also lives in Arkansas. The other two live in Texas near their parents, and Florida. The youngest two have kids, and they all think Tyler has the absolute coolest job in the world. He might not see them in person very often, but he never misses a chance to FaceTime with them.
Dani's parents disowned her after she came out to them. She doesn't talk to any of her biological family anymore, but Tyler started bringing her home with him for holidays as soon as he met her, and the kids all call her Aunt Dani. She cried the first time Tyler's mom hung up a stocking with her name on it at Christmas.
Boone's mom was a teenager when she had him and gave him up to the foster system as soon as he was born. He bounced around in the system and ended up finding her after he became an adult. They're friends, but he considers her more of a cool older cousin than a mom. He has several younger half-siblings, but they don't know Boone's relationship to them and just think he's Mommy's cool new friend.
Lily's parents are hippies and are totally down with their daughter's crazy job. They've guest-starred on the channel before, and Boone thinks they're the coolest people ever. She's an only child, and she's super close to her mom. They moved around a lot when she was little, so she doesn't have a lot of childhood friends that she still talks to.
Dexter's father passed away a few years ago and his mom is getting up there in age. She lives in Michigan with his older brother, and they've been discussing moving her into a home. There's a little bit of tension between Dexter and his brother because Dexter lives so far away and can't help much with their mom's day to day care.

Kate was the product of a one-night stand. She never met her dad, and it's always been just her and Cathy. When she was younger, she kept asking her mom for a sibling. Once Javi moved in next door, she decided he was close enough and quit asking.
I just read a Twisters headcanon about Kate and Tyler's wedding being interrupted by a tornado and thought, well no, they obviously know when storms are more likely to happen, why would they plan a wedding during chasing season for exactly that reason?
... and then I thought, they would plan their wedding during tornado season for exactly that reason.
"yeah, the wranglers would make great aunts and uncles. babysitters, though? that one’s questionable" - lol, yeah! Maybe Dexter would be a decent babysitter... Or so Tyler and y/n would think and then would be proved wrong?
yesss i could for sure see this! i can see y/n and tyler coming home from a date night and their living room is full of ripped up tissue paper, like for gifts, and tyler’s like “where the hell did this even come from” and dexter, from a distance, is like “i don’t KNOW! it keeps finding stuff to destroy!” and all tyler can do is stare in disbelief at his mess of a house while y/n laughs at dexter calling her child “it”
he and tyler are twins (jake is older by seven whole minutes, which he always reminds tyler of)
they used to be distant, with tyler being with the wranglers and jake being in top gun, but when he saw rooster almost die he realized he couldn’t leave his relationship with tyler as it was
so they call once every week or two now, maybe visit each other once a year. it’s not perfect, but he knows that his baby brother’s alive and that’s what matters (even though he would laugh in your face if you suggested that)
after el reno, jake sees tyler’s truck in the news- rolled over in a field of destruction- and immediately goes on leave. he only had to show maverick the photo before his request was approved.
he gets off the plane and walks into the baggage claim right as the announcement that flights will be delayed goes off, and when he sees his brother in one piece with a shit-eating grin on his face he almost cries (he doesn’t, he just moseys over and hits on kate)

He loves Kate with all his heart but to me he just screams asexual.
Like Kate would get naked to have sex with him and he would just be like “Kate, put your clothes on. I want to talk about Tornado's.”

Kate and Tyler having been to a romantic dinner and Kate thinks it’s going to lead to sex. While walking down the street Tyler goes “Kate we got to go faster this cannot wait.”
“You ready to have sex?” Kate would ask. “What? Why would that be relevant to a tornado which is spouting out fish and seaweed.”
AND
In the end she would just ask. “Hey why do you not want to have sex with me?” Sex would never have crossed his mind and be like “What?”
“Sex you know. A beautiful part of a relationship.”
“I thought you knew I was asexual.” Tyler would have never hid the fact that he is asexual. It’s on all his socials and the website for storm chasers. When he completed his PhD (Also a headcanon.) there was a news article about him being one of the first openly asexual meteorologist’s.
