i hate twitter activism so much because it completely misses the point of being an activist and distorts it so that it looks like a bunch of kids who read one news headline and don't know anything about the matter they claim to defend/spread. it's always all or nothing, if you're not with us you're against us, but what they fail to realize is that there are so many places in the world that face tragedies, human rights crisis, WARS, and it only makes them look like disgusting hypocrites with their 'why doesn't anyone talk about what I think is important.' every matter is important, every time an innocent person dies is a tragedy, but we as humans just CANNOT care about EVERYTHING bad that's happening because our mental health is fragile and so easily influenced by the news of death and sorrow. and it's just impossible to empathise with more than one person at a time (that's science, not my theory.) you can't expect someone who's already in the middle of fighting for their own freedom and justice to throw everything behind and start fighting for yours.
saying 'you CAN'T enjoy or talk about anything else but xyz' only makes people more apprehensive and reluctant to help. people help because they think it's right, not because you force them to. and we don't know what they've been doing outside of social media, they might have done more than all of us combined. this aggression that comes with twitter activism is dangerous. not to mention they don't do shit to help because spreading unverified carrds or shady domation links, and making dramatic threads on twitter without any fact cheks is not activism.
next time you want to write something like 'if you're a HUMAN you HAVE to do...' 'why doesn't ANYONE talk about...' check if really no one has talked about something (try mainstream media, trust me, you can find so many interesting articles and reports there, and I guarantee you they have a huge audience that's way bigger than all 20k people who liked a tweet,) and think about what has been happening in myanmar, india, indonesia, venezuela, ukraine, armenia, just any place that faces a crisis, and think what have you done to help them before shaming others.
