And apparently, Kubo, the fucking creator of the story, doesn't either...
No, my good idiot! The Shinigami powers and the hollow powers cannot be truly separate from one another.
The difference is that Ichigo, being born with Shiro's essence inside of him, developed a Zanpakuto spirit who was himself a Shinigami/Hollow hybrid.
The Visored, had their souls, and therefore their Zanpakuto spirits, infected. They would not completely turn hollow looking as Shiro, I'm guessing, but the ability would be there nonetheless.
And I'm willing to bet that if we got to see an externally materialized Zanpakuto after say Shinji hollowfied, the spirit would also carry a mask or some type of hollowfication in itself.
But whereas on Tumblr we don't relinquish our critical thinking skills even when dealing with our favourite fandoms, twitter is dead set on the deification of the creator, without allowing themselves or others to analyse and criticise the piece of media they consume...
When you stumble upon plot holes and inconsistencies, you analyse them objectively...
On Twitter they blame the characters for the errors of the creators...
