jude and cardan domestic headcanons

they go to sleep every night in a tangle of limbs, soft and chaotic and somewhat of an emulation of the nature of their relationship

jude always wakes to cardan’s tail wrapped around her thigh or her wrist, hands clutching at her as if he was afraid she would vanish from his arms in the middle of the night

jude is an early riser and cardan wakes up in the late afternoons with eyeliner smudged everywhere and hair perfectly messy

they have always balanced each other out in many senses

despite this, jude insists that he does need to learn how to defend himself 

so several times a week they practice sparring

more often than not cardan gets distracted by the shape of her lips and the curve of her body 

“pay attention idiot” 

“you’re excruciatingly distracting, my darling wife”

they’ve come to enjoy the quiet moments together, away from the pressures of being the high king and queen

they often spend nights in the grand libraries reading, cardan’s fingertips drifting along the back of jude’s hand, each of them lost in their own stories

whenever jude goes to visit vivi and heather she makes sure to grab a few of the new bestselling novels for her husband

he had never lost his love and fascination for mortal world things, particularly their stories 

he loves to read bedtime stories for their children gray and aspen, and the sight of them snuggled up against her husband, wide eyed and entranced, never ceased to make jude’s chest fill with warmth

in fact, she is often is also lulled to sleep by the sound of his silken, honey voice

cardan’s love language is little whispers of i love you and light kisses and gentle touches whenever he can get the chance to

jude pretends to be irritated by it, but the softness of it all makes her melt

“i love you, wife”

“shut up i’m trying to read” 

she has to suppress her smiles

no one gets to see the softest parts of jude like cardan does

the way she gently drags her fingertips down the curve of his cheek

the way she gets lost in his eyes

sometimes he has to pinch himself because he can’t believe that someone like her chose him 

and somehow every single day they fall more and more in love with one another

the passion and heated nights never ceased

cardan worshipped every inch of her 

the taste of her skin and the fullness of her rosy lips

the way his named formed on her lips never ceased to make him shiver in pleasure

and in the depths of the night they murmured vulnerabilities with nothing but the press of their bodies and silken sheets

no one really truly understood them but each other 

and they found they were content with that knowledge because the high king and queen were souls intertwined for the rest of their days
