The Question by steve55126 Via Flickr: The place: Wales, Minn. The train: Southbound taconite loads on CN Iron Range Sub. The temperature: -16 The question (in context of my well known hatred of snow and cold): What the hell am I doing here?
Two Harbors Light
The oldest operating lighthouse in Minnesota, Two Harbors Light is located off the shores of Lake Superior's Agate Bay.
Built in 1892 to provide safe passage to ships carrying valuable iron ore through Agate Bay, Two Harbors is the younger twin Michigan's Round Island Light which would be built three years later.
The light was automated in 1980 and ownership was transferred from the US Coast Guard to the Lake County Historical Society in 1999. The light is currently active as a private aid to navigation as well as a bed and breakfast in the keepers house.
Decided to start moving on to other lighthouses on the Great Lakes outside of Michigan. Thinking of eventually moving on to the rest of the costal states and then internationally as well. Expect to see more examples from Lake Eire and Lake Ontario soon.
