Drawing in the Dark

In its inaugural exhibition, New York gallery Two Rams brings to its space Carceri, featuring the art of Lia Chavez, a multi-disciplinary artist whose visual work draws inspiration from the mysteries of the physical universe. 

For this series of drawings, the artist called upon the ancient practice of Saint Francis of Assisi of going into total seclusion, whilst blindfolded, to meditate; the resulting works were created over periods of deep silence—both visual and aural—lasting several hours. By depriving her senses, Chavez opens pathways to new possibilities of perception and translates these breakthroughs onto the page before her.

Carceri will remain on view through April 5 at Two Rams in New York City.
