This is not what this blog is usually about BUT.
Klavier, dude, is that your real mentor?
LET'S SOLVE THIS CASE FIFTEEN NOTES A SECOND
i finally found out about and read the nyt article about twosetvioin quitting
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/12/05/arts/music/twoset-violin-farewell.html?unlocked_article_code=1.fE4.svWP.InWl8kLLurGD&smid=re-nytimes
While I was never a super dedicated fan, I was a fan. I kind of grew up with occasionally watching their videos, and always seeing them putting out new content once I was an adult was very cool. I was shocked and confused when I saw they were quitting and had deleted their videos, but I understand their reasoning after reading this.
also this link specifically should work so you don't have to sign in to read it. If anyone saw twoset quitting and hasn't read this, you should
So I just read the New York Times interview with TwoSet Violin and I have thoughts
I understand their decision to end the YouTube channel. I would say it's the right time, it may be even a tiny bit overdue. And it's normal to end things. I rather have artists end things than drag on something they're no longer passionate or have the heart to make.
But I really do think that there was a better way to handle this, which is especially disappointing coming from them seeing as they handled previous issues like Brett's health scare and the war with blinks really well. I understand going out with a bang and surprise definitely adds to that wow factor, but it came out so suddenly with no explanation, and fans, especially the ones who have been along with the ride for years, deserve the transparency for something as big as this. We feel betrayed. I'd say rightfully so.
Since they already decided that they were gonna do a countdown of final videos, something they could have done was what Matpat did earlier this year, by announcing that this was the end first and then explaining they have a final project as a farewell without spoiling the content of the farewell videos. If they needed time, they could have also asked for time in that video. There was a much better way to do this, an example to follow is already on YouTube, and I'm frustrated that they took a different route instead, leaving fans scared and confused.
But at the end of the day, I'm grateful for them, and I'll be waiting eagerly for the final videos. I loved the B2TSM videos from the very beginning and based on the latest released Bach one, they really gave it all. (particularly excited for Mozart and Tchaikovsky)
So thank you to the TwoSet Team, and to Brett and Eddy for letting me learn more about classical music than I ever learnt in schools, for giving me (piano and oboe) and my sister flute) something musical to bond over, for creating such entertaining and educational content for years, and perhaps more importantly, letting me like classical music again after years of seeing it as torture due to a in retrospect, kinda toxic teacher. I like classical pieces now largely because of them.
I wish them all the best.
