Does Moving the PAT Line of Scrimmage Further Promote Going for Two?
It makes the PAT harder to attain and a little more competitive, but, for the most part, I don’t think two-point conversions will be more popular. Kickers should be apt to make such field goals; it’s still a relatively easy distance for pro kickers.
I think the idea of moving the PAT back to the 15-yard line was to promote using two-point conversions, since teams will be 13 yards closer to the goal line; however, there’s much more risk in relying on two players–the QB and a receiver–to make the play than relying solely on the kicker. It also varies on the trust in the QB and receivers versus the trust in the kicker per team, so it should be interesting.
According to Sports Illustrated, though, the rule may change next year if there is no real change in popularity towards the two-point conversion.
