Work Placement at Two Bulls [Days 1-3]
Day 1
So for my first day, i was introduced to the software company ‘Two Bulls’. I was introduced to their way of handling QA and learnt a few ways of making testing easier for those who dont understand the software, a great document for this was the OnBoarding document which would be the equivalent of a game design document. The onboarding document is meant as a resource that describes every function the software that it should do and also supplies the information on logging into websites for backhanding the app.
The main form of testing that i did on the first day was mostly regression testing, to see that all featured still worked after a recent build. I did this test on a few different devices to check that they all still continued to work. Another form of testing that i did was just bug testing, where i played around with the app in different ways until i found a bug.
At the end of the day i learnt a little bit about how to setup a regression feedback form in Two Bulls format. The format they used was pretty good and was easy to understand. Instead of using google forms they used a simple google spreadsheet to input and record the regression test.
Day 2
So day 2, today i continued work from the first day. I found more bugs on the app that i was working on and also got to report the bugs in A online program called pivotal tracker. Pivotal tracker was pretty easy to use and very useful. It felt kind of like a technical version of trello.
The first half of today was a continuation of the first day, so just regression and bug tests on the first app. In the second half of the second day i was assigned a different app, for this one i didn't need to set up a form. For some reason i found testing on these 2 apps to be pretty fun. I was just trying to find any way possible to break it and make it not function properly. I managed to make the second app crash every single time which i'm pretty happy with.
Not all that much different stuff today but its all pretty fun and learning a lot about setting up testing, and bug testing.
Day 3
Today was pretty laid back, find a few bugs do a regression test, and do a test to see if yesterday's reported bugs had been fixed. I had a really slow start to doing work because of using apple devices, but i got used to it more. As for the work i found i could spent the 7 hours happily just pressing on UI elements trying to break something, and when i managed to find a app-breaking bug that was in a near finished project, nothing made me happier.
I was working with 2 other people in trying to solve a bug that could barely be reproduced and just randomly caused the screen to go black. Me and my mentor spent a good 2 hours trying to reproduce the bug. It appeared probably once out of 50 tests. Sounds boring but i had a blast.
It was an absolutely amazing experience working at Two Bulls. The office was beautiful and the people were very welcoming and inclusive at every opportunity. If i had a question about certain things about testing they would give detailed answers and make me understand.
I also got to try out Hololens in my last 20 minutes, was pretty cool being able to work around holograms and interact with them. Definitely check it out if you ever have a chance!
