ANTM Documentary commentary:

I was an adult when this aired. I know there’s a large contingent of folks who are saying something to the effect of “why did no one call Tyra out on this?!”

*We did*

We had had full blogs dedicated to calling out the bat shit crazy bullshit. FourFour, Television Without Pity, Jezebel, dlisted.

The problem was that ANTM became a show that you watched to see if you could spot the moment the blogs would call out in their recaps.

Every gif you’ve seen of Tyra from the show probably came from a journalist named Rich Juzwiak. He probably owes his current career to Tyra indirectly. His blog FourFour was the place to go for hilarious gifs and random nicknames for contestants. The blog’s still up, it’s not updated, but it’s still there. Look for the recaps of Cycle Six. He had a spot that season called “Imagine That, with Jade” (arguably one of the most entertaining contestants on the show)

I don’t know if any of you noticed in the documentary, but Tyra doesn’t have the best self-reflection. She saw all of these blogs and places on the internet talking shit about her, and her response was “we need to give them more! Listen to them! They LOVE us!” And it would get worse.

No one watched for Tyra. We watched for the contestants. We watched for Miss J. We watched for Janice and Twiggy and Paulina and André.

Not Tyra.

Also, not ANTM related at all, but for Miley Cyrus’s sixteenth birthday, Tyra gave Miley a picture of Tyra at sixteen. I can’t remember the exact words but it was to inspire her to keep trying or something like that.

Man, the explosion of Heated Rivalry really makes me miss the discussion boards at Television Without Pity, because it was set up perfectly to tailor one's needs within the fandom. There would be a channel for each episode, another for speculation (and for HR, there would be separate speculation boards for book readers and for those who hadn't read it), another for cast appearances/articles, etc.

The moderators would be exhausted 24/7, but the flexibility would be so great to have again.

hey i just read your leatin ghost fic which is amazing btw because i‘m still obsessed with the wilds and wanted to ask if you will ever finish it or could tell how this fic would have ended.

Omg thank you!!!! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. I do intend to finish it at some point! I had been planning to post the last chap, chapter 12, Halloween this year but gelphie took over my brain so I haven’t circled back to it yet.

I only have a thousand words written for chapter 12 but I do have an idea of how I’d like to end the fic.

My beta reader who edits most of my writing is a big leatin fan so at the latest I’ll post it Jan 2025 as a bday present to her but if I can finish the fic before then I will!!!

I am currently writing a gelphie oneshot and have nothing else planned outside of that so we shall see.

Really if I locked in it would probs take me 2 weeks to write but I unfortunately cannot lock in while my brainrot is directing me elsewhere. Sub to the fic and stay tuned! Thanks for reading! :)
