Candy Claws- Ceres & Calypso in the Deep Time (Dream Pop, Noise Pop, Neo-Psychedelia) Released: June 25, 2013 [twosyllable records] Producer(s): Ryan Hover
8/11/23.
I would not really call Candy Claws shoegaze. Many of the reviews mentioned this - yes the vocals sound shoegazy, but the music isn't anywhere close.
"Ceres & Calypso in the Deep Time was the 4th album from this Fort Collins, Colorado band. Members of the band later formed Sound of Ceres (Joyful Noise Recordings) with members of The Apples in Stereo and The Drums.
This album is a concept album developed with the help of poet Jenn Morea. The album tells the story of a white seal named Ceres and a little girl named Calypso traveling through the Mesozoic Era. The music does give one the sense of a wondrous world and story. To me the music does recall the work of any number of Elefant 6 bands (i.e. Of Montreal or The Apples in Stereo) and MGMT.
This is a 10-year anniversary release and comes with a bonus CD. It is being reissued by the original label - Twosyllable Records.

It's time for Beginnings, the podcast where writer and performer Andy Beckerman talks to the comedians, writers, filmmakers and musicians he admires about their earliest creative experiences and the numerous ways in which a creative life can unfold.
On today's episode I talk to musician Will Fox. Born in Houston, TX, and raised in London, Paris, and the American South, Will spent his adolescence moving from country to country with his family. Back stateside, destined to operate a historic gristmill in the Shenandoah Valley, he instead moved to Los Angeles to become a troubadour. After his stint as a member of the now-defunct LA indie rock band Los Angeles Police Department, Will turned his attention to his own pursuits. His first solo work was the Cosmic Dusting EP in 2018, and his latest Which Way is out July 12 on Twosyllable Records.
