Dissecting the Scarabia CM Because I’m Bored

I promise I’ll write soon I’m just very busy at the moment.

(Writing this completely out of my “professional” persona I use for this blog)

1. Light and Darkness (cliche lol)

So from what I’ve read, this frame supposed to represent Kalim and Jamil being each other’s light and darkness. Kalim being on the bright side (literally and metaphorically), and Jamil being on the opposite.

2. Collar

I don’t think this is tied to the CM in general but I just realized that the collar Jamil wears symbolizes how he’ll forever be a servant to the Al-Asim family unless if he is freed, to symbolize how he’s forever chained to them.

It’s also the same collar that the genie/s in the Aladdin movie wear when they’re still trapped/supposed to abide by the rules and stay with their masters.

(I have no idea why the image is so small.)

3. Paths (i’m running out of titles)

This could just be me looking into this subject too much, but I have a feeling that this is supposed to represent how Kalim will always live a life full of lavish and treasures, as well as living with good shade to sit under at all times. Whereas Jamil is portrayed to be walking alone in the scorching desert heat with no one but himself.

TL;DR: Jamil walks alone in his path of life whereas Kalim is surrounded by something. Whether it be treasures or the company of other people.

4. I don’t even have a title for this

This is might possibly be another case of me just looking into it too much, but I’m putting this here because it adds on to my previous point.

Kalim is always shown with some sort of company (in this case it’s Jamil) but when the camera spins and pans on Jamil’s side, there is no one but him and the black background.

(..See what I’m getting at?)

5. Overblots

I find this scene particularly interesting because of the fact Jamil is smiling. Not even a crazed smile, a calm one.

Why is this interesting, you ask?

Because in every other CM (so far) that contains the characters overblotting, they are always shown with an expression of pain or anguish when they’re transforming.

(I couldn’t nab a screenshot of Riddle while in his overblot form with a clear facial expression because it was too zoomed out. But you can tell he’s clearly not having a good time.)

This could just be coincidence, but I’m willing to bet that it’s because Jamil finally gets to show his true colors that he’s wanted to do for so long after having to put up with Kalim’s shenanigans and the unavoidable fact that he will remain as a servant for eternity (unless if Kalim frees him or if his entire family grants him freedom, that is...)

6. Jamil being “stuck”

A mutual on Twitter pointed this out, but I’ll put in here as well.

As said in Twitter, the CM shows all the different ways Jamil is “stuck”, and that could be taken in different ways: Kalim being able to walk freely from the fountain whereas Jamil just stays there, glancing at him with visible scorn because of the fact that Kalim is able to go freely yet Jamil is just “stuck” in one position. Or a more obvious one where it shows Jamil with his head down looking more trapped than he is stuck.

It’s only after he overblots where he looks happy. It’s because he isn’t trapped anymore.

Anyway, that’s my two cents. Feel free to correct me on any mistakes I might have made. I thought of all this while I was bored in class and I’m genuinely surprised my brain actually thought of something for this CM since it usually just blanks out (lol).

The Scarabia CM holds a lot of symbolization and I’m sure there’s more I missed. Discuss if you’d like! I’m all for hearing takes and people analyzing TWST.
