Spoilers ahead for Cult of the Lamb if you care.
So.
In game, we know that Ratau failed in his position as leader because he “Led the Cult to ruin” and didn’t have it in him to sacrifice..Someone? anyone?
But, at the same time, the lamb is NOT required to sacrifice anyone to play the game. It’s generally more difficult not to in any manner, but its not really something TOWW/Narinder comments too heavily on. So, whats the deal? Why is the lamb different?
I can think of 3 main reasons. 1 Clearly being, the lamb isn’t different at all, just circumstances. the 2nd would be the “Vessel” part in all of this, and the third is a bit of a stretch but it could do with the Red Crown.
To go over the first, it is very clear that the TOWW thinks very little of followers/mortals. Based on his suggestions and how he treats you at the end of the game. So it makes sense that he would see someone hesitating to make use of that resource as weak. As to then why he doesn’t think of the Lamb in the same way, It could come down to prophecy and/or speed/efficiency.
With the whole prophecy thing, it would make more sense as to why he might be more willing to wait and watch someone who doesn’t agree with his methods of gaining power. After all, if it was foretold the Lamb would win, it doesn’t really matter HOW they do it, after all.
Secondarily, it could also be a matter of getting things done. Very clearly, none of the other bearers of the crown managed to take out a Bishop. If the Lamb did so despite not sacrificing anyone in a short enough time, then the clear progress that is being made could also easily be enough to convince TWWO of his vessels power.
That’s most of what I think (outside of it obviously being a game play first thing) for that reason, at least
