16. Are there any WIPs you’ve accepted will have to wait until 2024?

A whole lot of them, lol. Most notably the main replica fic I've been working on, which I swear I will get done soonish. Probably. Maybe.

22. Share a deleted scene, if you have one.

I originally had a scene about Simon falling in my Garden Squad fic, but cut it because it wasn't really relevant to the story.

The next Fall is, in fact, not a star. No, this time it’s a comet who plunges right into the waters of the Gleek, unflinching, as if they've never truly forgotten how it feels to be a Talker. They're welcomed by an excited Tad and Donna, and by the rest of the team, and before long even a massive figure rises from the depths to greet them, the Leviathan welcoming one of her long-lost children home.

Simon Haley, apparently, has been a thief for more than twice as long as they've been a Talker. If this isn't quite where they wanted to land, they don't show it; they’re quick to explore the arena and see how it's changed, exclaiming over everything they find. They do not take over from Eris, content to leave vir the captaincy, but there is something comforting in finally having a player who knew this place Before, and approves of what everyone’s been doing with it.

They don't spend much time in the kitchen, though they never say why. It makes Gloria wonder just how much they had to leave behind to come back here.

But it’s the same dark curls you fell in love with all those years ago, the stick and poke you gave them at 18 still staining their ribs, roses covering your matching scars. Burgundy nails wrapped around a mug in each hand, and as your eyes trail up you can see the quirk of their lips into a grin and you feel hot, flustered in a way you haven’t felt in a long, long time.

Ruthless is glowering, and you can almost feel hir shuffling to choose which button to push next.

Still you go, finding your seat at the top of the stands, directly behind the Firefighter’s section. It's where you used to come in those early days of season 5 on days you didn’t have games, when you were still brand new and stepping into the shoes of a prophesied pitcher. It works just as well then as it does now, the mascots harrowed screams a perfect cover for avoiding the expectations.

You may not be Tyreek, with bones and breath manufactured from the steps of the city itself, or Justice, who’s blood flows like the Chicago river, the echoes of a thousand voices in her ears. No, you are simply skin and bones, with eyes from your mother’s sister and hair just like your father’s mother. You are as human as they come, but still so intertwined in the core of the city that it feels inevitable you’d end up back here, some days.

Two minutes later the two of you are leaning against Siggy’s walls, and you can feel the still-warm sand beneath you. Zack brings the joint to her mouth and looks at you expectantly, waiting for you to grab the lighter she rightly assumes is in your pocket. Once it’s lit she takes a long draw, letting the smoke flit out around her petals before passing it to you.
