Moist Talkers as text posts, part 22! Art by HetreaSky!
16 and 22
16. Are there any WIPs you’ve accepted will have to wait until 2024?
A whole lot of them, lol. Most notably the main replica fic I've been working on, which I swear I will get done soonish. Probably. Maybe.
22. Share a deleted scene, if you have one.
I originally had a scene about Simon falling in my Garden Squad fic, but cut it because it wasn't really relevant to the story.
The next Fall is, in fact, not a star. No, this time it’s a comet who plunges right into the waters of the Gleek, unflinching, as if they've never truly forgotten how it feels to be a Talker. They're welcomed by an excited Tad and Donna, and by the rest of the team, and before long even a massive figure rises from the depths to greet them, the Leviathan welcoming one of her long-lost children home.
Simon Haley, apparently, has been a thief for more than twice as long as they've been a Talker. If this isn't quite where they wanted to land, they don't show it; they’re quick to explore the arena and see how it's changed, exclaiming over everything they find. They do not take over from Eris, content to leave vir the captaincy, but there is something comforting in finally having a player who knew this place Before, and approves of what everyone’s been doing with it.
They don't spend much time in the kitchen, though they never say why. It makes Gloria wonder just how much they had to leave behind to come back here.
Trick or treat!
For you, some Simon/Lachlan black hole content from my Simon's Quest fic :)
“The end of the world, Comet,” he says with surprising patience. “My team going for safety and your team going to attack the coin. You think I didn't wish you were there with me the whole time? I didn't have any more control over where we went than I did over becoming a Georgia in the first place.”
“I appreciate the sentiment, but if everyone went for safety, the Coin would still be out there.” You cross your arms. “And don't try to tell me you wouldn't have gone right for the Vault if you had a choice.”
Maybe neither of you was ever as much of a Talker as you thought. Your old team went right to the Hall, to the embrace of the Moist One, and you got on a bus with people who had been your teammates even longer and floored it into an unknown wasteland, forgetting who you used to be.
“I was scared!” His voice rises. “I saw you fight a god once before, and I couldn't do anything then, and I couldn't do anything this time either! Of course I wanted us both to be safe!”
“And I didn't want to be scared anymore.”
You close your eyes. Getting your memory back means the good along with the bad. Here in the black hole, you feel lighter than ever, but you remember how it felt to be dragged down by allergic reactions and curses, flinching at pitches, tripping over your own feet. Charging the mound was the most alive you’ve felt since the pentaslam, maybe -- no, before that, since Stu batted you and Vela home and you all ran the bases laughing with delight, knowing you were champions, on top of the world for just the smallest of moments before the Shelled One came to pound you into the dirt.
“Going after the Coin, I finally felt powerful. In control.” You open your eyes. “What can I control here in the black hole? My own dream world? I don't want that. I want something real. Something that means something. A fresh start.”

A bit of a redraw of a blaseball piece from 2021. Not gonna lie, I kind of like the original more. Maybe I'll give it another shot eventually? Let me know what you guys think!
IMAGE ID: Two copic marker illustrations of Simon Haley from the Charleston Shoe Theives, an Afro-Latina twenty something with pockmark scars on their face with a streak of dyed yellow hair. In both drawings, they sit crosslegged and a blue sweater over a light gray dress shirt, yellow pants, and gray socks. The lighting on the first drawing is poor, making it seem dull and washed out in comparison to the second, and the shading is more dramatic. The background on the left is mostly left blank, barring a slight shadow where Simon is sitting, while the background on the right is mostly dark gray with a sword shape cut out. The one on the right is more zoomed in, while the one on the left shows their entire body. END ID.
Finally posting some old art from my previous Blaseball hyperfixation! I might redraw some of the really old pieces. The difference 2 years and a few months makes! I used to draw characters with tattoos more-- I should get back to that!
From left to right, then top to bottom: Simon Haley (Charleston Shoe Thieves), Jessica Telephone (Alternate), Jaylen Hotdogfingers (Shelled Ones Pods), Allison Abbott (Seattle Garages), Jessica Telephone (Macchiato City), and Chorby Short (Yellowstone Magic). I don’t entirely remember what I was basing the designs for these characters on, other than the wiki, but Simon and Chorby’s designs are my own.
blaseball truly back :)
So proud of our comet, off on his RPG quest ;u; [ID: Parody cover of Castlevania II; Simon’s Quest, with Simon Belmont being replaced with Simon Haley using the whip. The Konami logo and title is replaced with The Game Band’s logo and title, “Castlevania II” is replaced with “Blaseball: Gamma” in all caps, the “licensed by Nintendo for play for the Nintendo Entertainment System” has the word Nintendo be redacted and replaced with “Internet” respectively, and “Official Nintendo Seal of Quality” is now “Official CROWN Seal of Quality”]
