"Are you hurt?" Roman asked quietly, sitting Virgil down on his bed as he shut the window that Virgil climbed through.
"No," Virgil replied, curling up into the corner of Roman's bed and staring at the wall.
He heard Roman sigh, you made him mad, and the bed dipped.
"Then why do you have bruises all over your face?"
Virgil scoffed, turning to meet Roman's eyes. "What do you think? Pissed off my dad again, this isn't anything new."
Roman winced, and Virgil felt bad for making him worry. He softened his glare, "Don't worry about it. I'm fine."
Virgil could tell Roman didn't believe him, but thankfully Roman didn't bring it up again. Roman cleared his throat and said, "So, uh, wanna watch a movie, or do you just wanna sit here and brood like the angsty teenager you are?"
Virgil smacked his arm, but didn't object to the movie Roman picked (he suspected Roman picked Black Cauldron because it was his favorite) and settled in for the night.
At some point during the movie, Virgil and Roman had gotten closer, ending up basically cuddling. Virgils head was resting on Roman's chest, and Roman was drawing nonsensical shapes into the side of Virgils arm.
Yep. Totally platonic.
Virgil didn't realize he was dozing until Roman pressed his lips to Virgils head, and whispered, "I'm so sorry."
That got Virgils attention, but he stayed still, not wanting Roman to stop.
"I wish I could protect you," Said Roman, his voice achingly thick with unshed tears. Virgils breath hitched, and his throat got tight. Fuck, he made Roman cry. "I wish you would never have to go back to that wretched house. I'm so sorry, Virgil."
"S'okay." Virgil whispered back and he felt Roman startle. "Well, it's not, but... I don't know. You help."
Virgil felt more than heard Roman take a shaky breath, "Well, I'm very glad."
Virgil scooted closer, Roman basically cradling him at this point, and tried to ignore the gaping, aching hole in his chest and the throbbing bruises on his face that were created by a man who was supposed to love him.
