Some of the apps require you to sign up before they will allow you to search for fic. I'm hesitant to do so but should I?

If you don’t want to sign up to search, I would suggest just reporting the app for being a scraper app that steals content. Or you can counter the downloads by leaving negative reviews, stating the only reason you downloaded was to check for stolen content. If it requires your email, which some of them do, you should still be able to delete your account, but I personally did not use any that required login details.

How would one go about watching Mushishi?

Both seasons are on Funimation right now, I think it’s on crunchyroll, and the entire first season is available subbed and dubbed on Youtube.

There’s also a playlist of the OST on youtube, which is some of my favorite music to draw to. I reccomend supporting the original creators by doing things like buying the episodes, manga or OST but since it’s an older and smaller series it’s kind of a pain in the ass to track stuff down

In terms of Mika songs I heartily recommend 'Origin of Love'.
