Hey guys!! Just wanted to post a quick couple of pics of myself (I know, narcissistic) from con this weekend! I was Tavros on the Saturday and myself on the Sunday, and I’m one of the new organisers for MCM’s Homestuck group!! I’m really proud of what we all did for this con and so many people have thanked me for helping to organise, so I’m super excited to do it all again in May! trick- my favorite candy was always the giant candy bars. like there was always THAT house that gave out full-size chocolate bars. me and my friends used to use my house as a home base and we would change our costumes like 3 times so we could get more candy bars.

Hey, I hope you don't mind me messaging you! I sent you a message on your BJD blog but maybe you didn't see it or something? I really hope I'm not bothering you or anything, but I'm really interested in the method you used to make Lyra's eyes with foil and I'd like to do something similar for one of my dolls. Do you think you could post a tutorial or at least give me a basic rundown on it if it's not too much trouble? Let me know either way, thank you! :)

Oh my goodness I JUST got this.  Tumblr decided not to tell me I had an ask. x.x  To answer your question, I haven’t gotten around to making the tutorial yet, but the method was pretty simple.

1.  Make the eye bases out of clay.  Draw a line on a piece of paper however big you want the eyes to be (Lyra’s are 12mm I believe), try to match the base of your eye base to that line in diameter.  If it doesn’t fit once you bake it, it’s all right, you can chip away at baked Sculpey with an X-Acto knife and sand it smooth until it fits in the eye well.

2.  Paint in your colors.  I put in a liberal amount of paint, so that the third step would be a little easier, but you don’t strictly have to.

3.  Cut two small circles out of a sheet of tin foil, just larger than you want your irises.  Lay them on top of the paint from step 2, while it’s still wet but beginning to dry on top.  Gently (and this is the hard part) press the middle of the foil circle into the paint with a toothpick.  This should cause it to crinkle just a bit, with lines coming in to the center.  Don’t poke too hard or you’ll pierce the foil.

4.  Add shit-loads of Liquitex high-gloss varnish.  Seriously, just layer that shit.  This’ll take a few days while you wait for each coat to dry.

5:  Somewhere in the process of step 4, after the first few layers but before the last few layers, carefully add a few specks of your preferred glitter around the iris, around the pupil but not on the white.  

6.  Mooooore varnish.  At this point the foil should start fogging up and looking cloudy, making the deeper inside part look whiter than the outside.  

7.  If the eyes don’t fit in the sockets (due to being coated in a layer of varnish), sand them down and add one finishing layer to bring back the shine.
